this is the cleanest version so far .,...all the words are enunciated properly ...evry vowel , evry word and every note ....i love her improvisation tooo
I grew up seeing Sills perfom this frequently on TV so it is hard for me to accept any other version, but I must admit this is spectacular singing!! I love her ornamentation. I remember a Lucia radio broadcast from the Met with Devia, but as I recall, she only sang a couple of seasons. I don't know whether the Met didn't like her or she didn't like the Met (or preferred to stay in Europe). It is a shame that we had so little of her performances in the US.
magnifico! Finalmente una Linda cantata dal soprano lirico-leggero corposo, sonoro ed estremamente musicale!!! Grazie di aver posto questa registrazione, che meraviglia :-)
To my ears, the recitative was a little marred by occasional intrusion of throaty, "husky" tones, which led to a certain "heaviness" in some passages.
That said, once there is amazing virtuosism to sing, Devia sail through amazingly! It's so interesting how her voice becomes brighter and more beautiful as she ascends to the top and sings the trickiest coloratura. Despite a few reservations, 95% of this rendition is very impressive, especially the scales and the final high note!
Thanks for the upload! As patjan92 states this is glorious singing. From the cantabile to the last gorgeous cadenza. Her ascending scales are a thing of beauty! And the one ending with a perfectly supported piano is unbelievable.
Tu sei grande, la vera regina di bel canto, io ti amo Devia!

Though I'm a fan of Devia's, I sometimes find her creative ornamentations off-putting, but this is so classy!

No director OR conductor can hide the fact that this is glorious singing!
