  • But then you get to the gearing. The Cummins makes that 505 ft lbs at 1,400 RPM. On the other hand, the Ford makes its 500 at 4,600 RPM. This means that if both trucks are geared so that the tires spin at 1,000 RPM at peak torque and both trucks have the same tires, the Ford will put 2300 ft lbs to the wheels, but the Dodge will only put 707 ft lbs to the wheels. The torquier Cummins makes its power too low, and USABLE torque in the Ford is 3.25x greater, consequently.

  • @6detroitdiesel5 You have to remember that any 6.0 Vortec has at least 13 more years of technology in it than an '86 460 and even more on the older 454 you mentioned. The newer motors are much more effecient and being fuel injected, gets off the line much better. I would still take an old big block over the new stuff any day of the week. I know how many miles a 460 can go.

  • everyone stfu about how the 460! The ford had locked differentials while the dodge was running open differentials. The fact that the dodge was even putting up a fight was because the cummins is such a monster. If the dodge had locked differentials it would be dragging the ford around all day and the driver would forget he was still hooked up to the ford.

  • I have a dodge and I have a ford the dodge has a 360 gas and the ford has a 390 out of a 67 mustang gt I like both of them, the dodge is all stock and runs pretty good but the ford with the 390 and 4.11 rears and 4 spd can go from 0 to a 110 really quick, as far as pulling goes the dodge would probably do better with a longer wheel base and a posi rear but the ford has the power but could probably not get hooked up.

They are also called a gov locker because the locker has a weight that centrifically moves and locks the rear automatically when 100 rpm difference is acheived between the rear wheels due to spinning. LSD (limited slip diffs) have many clutches that just apply resistance to the slip[ping wheel but will not lock

  • well this wasnt a fair tug of war in my opinion clearly the ford has locking axles and the dodge cant get any traction but i am sure if it was on even pavement the dodge would outpull unless the traction becomes an issue perhaps next time throw some weight in the dodge to make a fair pull still awesome video no matter what

  • @Southernpride005 not really, the engine may be big but only because it has to be to make that power and that power is only made at a higher rpm than a cummins. If both trucks had equal traction the cummins would be dragging the 460 around before the 460 could get started and the cummins would still last longer either way.   • @ProStreet83C10 if it's an auto tranny it will go around 150,000-170,000, but if it's a stick you cant beat it. ive seen alot of dodge tranny's go right around 160,000 but my buddy put 6 in his 97 befor he hit 180,000
