  • I haven't seen any video of the STOVL taking off vertically and going directly to forward flight. Is the jet able to do that yet?

  • @Judyiack yes the f-35b is STOVL

  • @Judyiack STOVL - Short Take Off Vertical Landing. It cannot take off vertically, only land vertically. The jet is too heavy when full of fuel and weapons.

  • So both the B (vtol) and C (carrier) variants can be used from a carrier?

  • @Blahmarrow Somewhat the C model is for the US Navy Nimitz class carriers while the B model is for landing ships for STOL.

  • @dogfight001 okay thanks.

  • @Blahmarrow the b type is for vtol operations the c type have a tail hook for carriers and there wing span is wider.

  • Meh A-10 is better

  • Yes i finally made if off the carrier! NOOOO GUIDED SHELL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Battle field 3...

  • Assuming that NAVAIR and Lockheed Martin can solve the problem of building one STOVL model sturdy enough for carrier ops, an F/A-35 in the groove could trap at landing speeds typical of Northrop Grumman's E-2 and C-2 turboprops and require minimal boost from the catapults when launching at maximum load, operating from a CVAN 68-class ship.

  • I'm interested in two things (1) weight ratio combat fully loaded (2) fuel requirements fully combat loaded in terms of range.

  • @cal45deserteagle I guess they could use an osprey as an air fuller maybe have them able to be modified with roll in tanks to switch from fuller to transport. , launch them with 1/4 fuel fully loaded and fuel up in flight.

  • @Baseshocks good idea sir, I hope the designers find solution to the weight ratio in the marine version.

  • @cal45deserteagle lol type i mean fueler...

  • i take one --- stop --- two!

  • Just where america needs to be spending money. Awesome nonetheless..

  • Good to see some real damn progress with this program, though I'm beginning to wish that the A and C versions were scrapped for much better dedicated units, like the F-22 and whatever true 5th gen aircraft are on the drawing board for the Navy.

  • @mobius1aic i still think that all the F-35s are winged coffins. to remain in the weight limits for takeoff, they removed ECM and Fire extinguishers.

  • @ElementoVolatile I agree to a certain degree. It's good to see the USMC finally get it's supersonic Harrier replacement, but I do think the three services would've been better served getting their own specific programs for aircraft designed to their individual needs, as opposed to a single major design that really compromises the relative apex of what could be achieved. We need more F-22s for long range anti-air defense interdiction. F-16s and F-15Es hold down the tactical strike role well.

  • @mobius1aic

Dont eat up the negative propaganda. The issues will be worked out. Any large engineering project will run into unforseen problems, and this is the largest project in history.

  • @XKS99 Largest project it may be, but it's sucking up alot of tax dollars better served going into dedicated designs.

  • BF-2 for..........BATTLEFIELD 2!!!!!!!!!!

  • Wow doesn't even need a catapult!

  • 30 of these for the Royal Australian Air Force to operate off our new RAN light assault carriers (Canberra Class LHDs) would be nice.

  • @wattlebough your dreaming

  • @hotmn4u 100 of the A model are on order for the RAAF. Two amphibious assault carriers under construction for the RAN are due to arrive next year, and a purchase of the B has been discussed. In any case the USMC's B models will operate from the Aussie LHDs when they enter service . Guaranteed.

  • Sitting here listening to Deadmau5 "Ghosts N Stuff". I feel like Im Nicolas Cage off of Lord of War. Im not like that. Im a "PEACEFUL" kind of person. I like to HELP people. But the way I see fit, Im all for peace. Its really easy actually. I need to see graphs and charts on stuff first. Not hard to do actually! :D

  • F35 was multi role fighter too. Saved money. The production of something like this probably saved money too. Really quick change to a jet like this that is lower in stats compared to F22. But how well do we know our enemy? If you been in the military or army. You will always know, the ARMY or military is always changing. Kinda like a reform but not really, like the MARIAN REFORMS of Rome.

Im waiting for this "REFORM" if it happens. Or "CHANGE"... Obama even speaked of it.

  • Im glad to see the F35 on decks now. So it works? Thats all I cared about.

Alot of you are curious why the stopped making F22s and so on? Lot of people lost their job in factories that made jets (F22s and F15s)? Then out of no where military took a quick leap to F35 that was VTOL design! I know... too soon for a jet like that? Alot of people had it right about budget.

If you were part of the "ROUND TABLE" and looking at charts and graphs and progress over time! I would of done the same.

  • HACKS !

  • wow looks like it can take off without that steam launching tech. Very nice

  • @LOLMAN22 Like the Harriers on the Wasp already do today.

  • VERY GOOD

  • a new raptor with VTOL on it

  • Comment removed

  • harriers are useless for today

  • Banging tune! Waaaay too short.

  • I need this song for when I play ARMA 2

  • Sweet!

  • That bird is bigger than I thought.

  • Does the Naval variant have a different forward vertical turbofan outer door than the Air Force variant? The other videos I've seen shows a butterfly door arrangement (like the hood of a Ford Model A) versus the large, single folding hatch shown here.

  • @divisioneight

The Air Force will use the A version and it doesn't have a vertical lift fan

  • @divisioneight There are three variants, and only the Marine Corps version has the vertical lift fan. The Air Force (A model) and Navy (C model) variants are conventional take off only, though the Navy version is aircraft carrier capable. The difference in door arrangement is probably due to the one above being a production aircraft vs a prototype.

  • @divisioneight The Air Force variant doesn't have the lift fan or that door.

The butterfly door arrangement was on earlier versions of the F-35B (Marines) model, but was replaced with the large single door for better efficiency and thrust.

  • @xero993 : Many, many thanks for the informative facts you and others gave me concerning this fascinating next generation of the venerable "Harrier". Go Navy!

  • @divisioneight The AV-8 Harrier and F-35B are both USMC aircraft. The Navy flies the F-35C, a wider-wing model for use on carriers.

  • @xero993 Only one aircraft ever had the butterfly doors, that was the X-35B concept demonstrator. F-35 is a completely different airframe and had the single door from the outset.

  • I thought the F-35 was an utter failure... looks like it cost too much to be scrapped.

  • @ferociousfrankie Well the F22 program got canned and it cost the same as the F35.

  • My daddy helped make that so DONT BE MEAN!

  • Is vertical take off really necessary?

  • @johnAshpool well it's supposed to be for easy carrier opperations, but no, not really

  • @johnAshpool

If you want to land on something like the USS Wasp then it is.

  • im sorry not feeling this new jet at all f-18 hornet please

  • Cancel this waste of space, F-18s do their job better than the F-35.

  • @TTDMFfreaknew But it looks so cool!!!

  • Whut..?! The Hood's up already, that's not a good sign...lol

Lockheed better lock in the price tag before too long or risk losing more clients. lat'r Buzz

  • Why are these so short, I want hours of video footage!!!

  • nice

  • They better not cancel this jet.

  • Too short. :(

  • @AV8R4HM just like your penis

  • @gamevidz24 You would know how?

  • @AV8R4HM im just good like that

  • Comment removed

  • @AV8R4HM Nah, it's VSTOL capable - lol

  • Very nice, but WHY THE MUSIC!?!?!? I wanna listen to the engine :P

  • So this is really happening. I was so sure this project would get canceled. I mean they cant possible cancel it this far into its testing and development?

  • @Xclusiv8 what about the commanche, and the ospray was cancelled for a while till technology caught up.

  • @paintball321

The Commanche's role was taken by UAV drones. They are cheaper and safer.

  • @Xclusiv8

Um, and the F-35A is even further along. The F-35C may be cancelled however...

  • wow, it costs 400000 to fly that plane for 12 seconds

  • @1Nekit1 Lol? Jelly brah? And your country paid for 20% of it. Thanks brah.

  • @Warhawkvj my second car was 78,000 and this plane would be 400,000 for12 seconds - none can outsmart bullet

  • @1Nekit1 Who pays 78k for a car, honestly.

  • @Warhawkvj heavy weapons guy

  • @1Nekit1 A mentally challenged slob that feels obligated to argue with a superior on youtube.

  • @Warhawkvj I love, how you didnt get any of these references yet

  • @1Nekit1 hahaha who told you that ? the average cost to operate/fly the f-16 an hour is around 30k , the f-22 is around 50K an hour. this is around 55-70K an hour. these numbers are from the military channel that I do watch all the time.

  • @randomvidz94 Team Fortress 2 reference.

  • @1Nekit1 how can it be so much ? :|

  • @zweefseef it isn't, it's quite expensive especially for vertical takeoff and landing but nowhere near that much.

  • @zweefseef It's a TF2 reference ;) - the real cost is $30,700 per hour.

  • @1Nekit1 Nice TF2 reference ;) - real cost if anyone's interested is $30,700 per hour.

  • @xero993 where is your basis?

  • @nakazatoGTR About which post sorry?

The TF2 reference post, liftfan door, or the cost per hour?

  • @xero993 ahm cost per hour, also compare cost per hour once operational units number around 80-100.

  • @nakazatoGTR YouTube doesn't allow me to post website addresses, but there's a page on Flight Global named "F-35 programme investigates $442 billion operations bill" which mentions it.

As for when it reaches 80-100 units - it doesn't mention about later, but I think the $30,700 is meant to be the price for production aircraft. Hopefully it'll go down when more F-35 aircraft are made.

  • @xero993 well put into consideration they are still testing testing testing. the beauty still needs to undergo op-eval.

  • @1Nekit1 But can it outsmart bullet???

  • @jiminy82 spy is sappin my F-35

  • @1Nekit1 dont worry, us will find oil on irak

  • @MsCasper2010 no :(

  • @1Nekit1 epic reference :D

  • Nice :D
