How many people were displaced because of the Olympic? GET OUT OF TIBET!!!!!!!! For the first time, I will not watch the Olympic in Beijing. More compassion for people and less on showing off and making quick money.

Get real! China's population is 1.3 billion people. Europe Nation is the richest in the world slightly ahead of the USA. Even if China did become a bigger economy than USA it would still mean that China is poor in relative terns - GDP per capita is more important! China would have to have an economy more than 4 times bigger than USA (given a population of 300 M) just to have same relative wealth per person. China will NEVER be a superpower - just a regional player in asia.

I agree that GDP per capita better determines standard of living. Yet "Power" is not determined strictly by the standard of living. Power is determined by the size of the economy as a whole, by the military prowess as a country, and by the political influence of a country.

If you're so sure China is just small potatoes, go ahead and believe that. I'm secure in my belief that China will be the most powerful country on earth.

Why are you in the USA and not China then - because the USA is many times better than China. China is developing and will just become an average developed country to similar standard of living as an average European Country in many decades - nothing like British Empire or US. To become a superpower it would have to have an economy 4 times bigger than US and Europe Union, military far superior to US and Europe - this IS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN!

The USA is a lot more comfortable for me to live in right now, because the standard of living is higher, which is why I live here.

Exactly my point! Believe me the rest of the world wants China to develop as it is good for US , Europe and the world economy! Just do not get sucked into the hype.

Your in US because you have a far superior standard of living 99% of Chinese would give and arm to get a green card or citizenship in a rich European nation like UK or Germany. Like most Chinese you realise US and UK has the worlds leading universities. Etc.

One thing will stop China from EVER having a super power military - that is the fact that they are a communist nation. Europe and US will never allow it. China's safest advancement would just be trying to become some sort of a developed nation and forget about any super power military. It will harm them if they don't!

Chinese should be grateful they are moving from a third world country to a developing one. DO not forget you still have probably nearly a billion people in absolute poverty compared to Europe and US. China's military technology is severly dated, not even 1/10 th in value terms spent on military as US - they only have man power - todays wars are NOT won by man power! They are NOT a knowledge economy just a cheap manufacturing base!!
