@TheAstonMartian: A GOOD idea, given the tune's association with cars in ads (though not the type of car favored by Bond). Still, this song is- despite its edgy melody- a 'hymn' to the guy's SURRENDER' to female seduction, as the lyrics CLEARLY show. So, hypothetically speaking, as a JB theme it should be in accordance with a 'Bond' COMFORTABLE with this shift in his typically macho-persona. The latest Bond is more refined in this respect, but I wonder how the male audience would respond to this

Good idea, but if they change the lyrics, this sounds catchy enough to be a Bond theme. Anyways, there was an Aston Martin commercial, where a fan changed the music, and put this instead. Presently the darker and sinister Bond, fits with this sort of music well.

Note how the word GLORIOUS is,well, the climax of the song, so the 'credit' for 'gloriousness' goes to the MALE (be that the singer or Bond) -- a not very feministic yet more accurate point of view. My point is that even with the SAME lyrics, audiences would probably still associate GLORIOUSNESS with GLAMOUR and AYTHORITY, typically Bondian qualities.

Well, I have always been a tune kind of guy, and do not put much emphasis on lyrics, especially with songs like these. Also note that both Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace, had tracks which to me sounded similar to this, and captured a ruthless, vulnerable, and victimized Bond, rather than a playboy with gadgets, and cartoony plots. cough Die Another Day cough. Daniel Craig wins hands down in truly being a traumatized spy, rather than a good looking playboy.

@AM: Can't buy the 'darker &sinister Bond' stuff: there is still a strong cultural backgroung on the Bond persona (Connery is still seenWRONGLY!- as the 'quintessential' Bond) which resists any CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT--not to mention other conventions of the action-film genre. BUT:this sort of music, as you put it, tallies with Bond ONLY because it is extremely well-POLISHED music and NOT too 'demanding' in its decoding, so it doesn't pose a 'threat' to the ..glorious BOND 'Image'. Thank you for being supportive. Daniel Craig captured Bond, when everything else worked. Casino Royale had several action scenes, and they made sense. They packed punch, and showed Bond as a realistic man, rather than a sleek and suave gentleman. He kicked so much ass, especially in Quantum of Solace, where he had foot, car, bike, boat, and plane chases. For a man his age, and looks, he showed that Bond is the real deal, and not some gorgeous looking model, but a merciless assassin. Bravo D.C.
