In point of fact, the character of Max was not written with any particular race in mind. Vert stepped up and agreed to play the part for no money. I actually tried to find an white actor for the part to avoid comments like this one.
However, I am incredibly glad I did not. Vert did an amazing job with this part and I am so glad he agreed to do it because I do not think _anyone_ could have played the part of Max better.
