We wouldn't have to always run to "Papa USA" every time a military threat looms over our nation. We could then take control of and utilize territory that is rightfully ours (e.g. Spratly Islands) which would then allow us to extract oil and natural gas for our own consumption and maybe even export instead of importing these resources from other countries that charge exorbitant prices.
We would be a powerhouse in the region, with the state of our economy better than it is now as well as our military having much more muscle. In the span of approximately 50 years from the inception of the program we might have enriched enough uranium and weapon grade plutonium for nuclear weapons. I'm not suggesting that we engage in warmongering like North Korea but a nuclear arsenal would serve as a deterrent for any countries that would try to bully us.
But if we take a look at statistics regarding safety issues, one can conclude that nuclear power has caused far fewer accidental deaths per unit of energy generated than other energy sources. The bottom line is that safety standards should be met. If the Philippines had pushed through with its nuclear program back in the day, we could have significantly cut down on our energy costs. The money saved could then be diverted to the improvement of the nation.
A nuclear power plant built in a seismically active zone should have an anti-earthquake design. Fukishima-Daiichi did not meet safety standards which resulted in a meltdown occurring upon being affected by a natural disaster (9.0 earthquake followed by tsunami). There will always be risks involved when it comes to energy production using nuclear power, in fact any form of energy production carries with it its risks.

We wouldn't have to always run to "Papa USA" every time a military threat looms over our nation. We could then take control of and utilize territory that is rightfully ours (e.g. Spratly Islands) which would then allow us to extract oil and natural gas for our own consumption and maybe even export instead of importing these resources from other countries that charge exorbitant prices.

In the span of approximately 50 years from the inception of the program we might have enriched enough uranium and weapon grade plutonium for nuclear weapons. I'm not suggesting that we engage in warmongering like North Korea but a nuclear arsenal would serve as a deterrent for any countries that would try to bully us.

The bottom line is that safety standards should be met. If the Philippines had pushed through with its nuclear program back in the day, we could have significantly cut down on our energy costs. The money saved could then be diverted to the improvement of the nation.

A nuclear power plant built in a seismically active zone should have an anti-earthquake design. Fukishima-Daiichi did not meet safety standards which resulted in a meltdown occurring upon being affected by a natural disaster (9.0 earthquake followed by tsunami). There will always be risks involved when it comes to energy production using nuclear power, in fact any form of energy production carries with it its risks.

Hindi lahat agad namamatay ang naapektuhan ng radiation maaring bumilang ng taon.. ..sila'y magkaka cancer at iba iba pang uri ng sakit. Maraming sanggol ang isisilang na may deforma at abnormal. Aquino's yellow army couldn't have succeeded if not for the Americans. Apo is the best and brightest ever! Most of our leaders now wouldn't even have a job under Marcos. I really hope Junior can become president instead of a Bong Revilla come next elections and put some order back in our government.
