The acoustic guitar part is definitely Can't Get It Out Of My Head.
I watched the Heroes of Comedy programme on Kenny Everett recently and it was said that his engineers found him introverted and quiet behind the scenes, but when he was on radio or in front of a camera he'd be outgoing. Sort of like Roy Wood in that way.
I think Jeff was just working on getting the rhythm and melody down, not intending to add lyrics at this point, and maybe that's why he's singing gibberish.
The song on this demo eventually evolved into the more familiar Boy Blue from Eldorado, A Symphony LP. Kenny Everett had access to a number of demos from that LP.
If this ain't the real Jeff L. & company, then I'll believe that Paul McCartney was replaced by a double in 1966 as well. Anyone capable of aping ELO this perfectly should be awarded the copyright to the name (ELO 3?) - 1b2s
Very interesting song, puts my mind to the 1973/74 period when Jeff was still experimenting with what ELO's sound should be. Very nice to hear rare stuff!
I have a feeling they are...either that, or Jeff didn't feel like articulating. Either way, this is a champion demo. I think it is fabulous, gibberish or not. =]
"I see no one there....and uh.. by rain...OHHH remember, like the first days of September, you will be runnin, on a funner day...oh the waiter, like band that played on dearly, oh that will leave it time..."
Good ol' Jeff, very Brian Wilson-ish with a pinch of Beatles, just like Dylan Jeff's throw away songs are great. by the way MR dylanmonacelli is their any other rare leftovers from the 'secret messages' & 'balance of power' albums that have not been released ?
The Intro sounds essentially like a sped of version of that for "Can't Get It Out Of My Head", So I can only gather that this must've been a rejected cut from the "Eldorado" Sessions. The very nature of the production pretty much gives that away. Awesome regardless.
Is there a finished version of this song? I must hear it in full. Sounds like a really awesome song. I am really into the rare stuff and this is really rare. I must know where I can get the whole song in good sound quality. Jeff Lynne if you ever get on youtube and see this, your fans want this song! I think he should take all hes "demos"/ unfinished work and put out an album of finished tracks. I would but that. Jeff Lynne is a musical genus.
Wow... I own a copy of this song thanks to an online friend, but... you managed to get your hands on such a larger part of it. Such a shame it was never released- so delicious and haunting... I adore Jeff's voice.
Wow, and I thought I'd heard everything they'd done. As a teenager I had all the albums. Great to hear Kenny Everett - Britain's best ever, highly talented, but most zany DJ. Bohemian Rhapsody wouldn't have happened if it hadn't been for Kenny. I saw some re-runs of his TV shows on Paramount recently - just like Jeff Lynne, sheer genius!!
they didn't release it because they couldn't sing any of the words properly. They were all "walaaooohaguaah."

I think this song has more going for it than a lot of stuff that made it onto albums

I think it's genuine..sounds like it's maybe from the Eldorado sessions. Polished up it would have been really great!

I think it's a hoax. Why the short segments in garbled order? I can't believe I'm the first one to say I think it's a fake.

Musical opening sounds like a cross between Do Ya and Waterfall. Jeff fused the two into something different.
Singing reminds me of Little Boy Blue.

are the lyrics gibberish?

The beginning chords clearly reminds me of "Can't get it out of my head"
The verse reminds me of "I can hear music" (Beach Boys).

The opening C/G/F/G sequence resurfaced later as the "Run around, gotta go, gotta run around"section in "On The Run Again" on 1979's Discovery Album.

Wow, where did you get this (and Indian Queen)? Especially the studio version!
joecostellomusicvids 3 years ago
Sadly, the studio version has only come in those samplets. Once I recieve the full version, I will be posting it up as well.
As for Indian Queen, it came from a radio show, and it has been passed around for a long time.

Thanks for the info, I've never heard these recordings before. Shame about the weird cut-up samplet, but I'll keep an eye out for the full version.
Thanks for posting these songs!
