They weren't gay bro. That was made up by a rolling stone writer due to some stupid stuff. That's also why they're not in the hall of fame. Also, if they were, they f'n rock anyway.
Can't get enough of the boom box. What a great set.
this song is about waiting for daryls candy man,and pimping his stash, listen to the words, just like elton johns love songs ,all about gay men,bum burgler.perv
Hall got his whole sound & style from Rundgren. Hall began as one of Todd's backup vocalists and then backup act. Just check out Todd's live "Back To The Bars" album and you'll see Hall & Oats along with Stevie Nicks as backup vocalists. The bass player here (behind Hall) is also from Todd's Utopia. Of course Todd got all the Phily Soul stuff from all the great Phily black singers & songwriters of the day as this sound is really a black invention.
Hall was influenced by Philly soul. He started out working as a session musician with the Delphonics and the Stylistics. Todd's "Back to the Bars" album was in 1978, 9 years after H&O came together, so I don't see how you came to the conclusion that he started out as one of his backup vocalists. Let's just listen to the music and not get into black and white or any of that bs.
I have been in love with Daryl since middle school ... Daryl is now 61 years old and I'm 39 but still waiting ... I love you Daryl! You're voice has forever touched my heart.

Check out the recent version of Wait for Me, out of Hall's house with various other artists. There is a certain maturity which credits both versions
