Roy ayers represents Where ever he's at....... Saw him at jazz cafe in London about 10 years ago - he changed the lyrics from 'We live in Brooklyn' to ' We shop in Tesco's!!!
First time I ever saw or heard him was in 1976 while living in Chago. I was 24 yo and in medical school. I was watching a tv show when he came on. The minute I heard him play I was so turned on by his sound. And as a young white boy I proceeded to turn on many of my white friends to his sound. I like to watch the expressions on his face while he plays his Vibraphone. He loves what he's doing and it shows. We're blessed to have him with us.
ebonitelondon i need some more roy ayers so please find it in your heart to send me some thank you misterfatcuzz oh yeah my email is marcuscarr1@hotmail.com god bless you one
@Dazzer1234567 Roy is from LA but he's giving mad love to the Windy City. He does the same with DC CIty giving props to Washington, DC. At the time, Chicago and DC were two cities of big time Black ascendence. Strong Black Middle and Upper Classes at that time too.
Every Time he comes to Chicago to perform, a group of us always shout this song out and he always says the band doesn't know that song! Teach it to em Roy cause it would totally blow our minds and rock our world if you did it as an encore.
Roy will be in CHICAGO this coming Friday. I'll be yelling for him to play this song and if he says the band doesn't know it I'll be SO disappointed... but given his body of work my disappointment will likely last 2 minutes.
@kiabiadegreea I know, i can't go this time but ...Girl you keep me posted and see if he plays it....lol....the disappointment never lasts for us either...his body of work is outstanding. Just got done listening to the album with everybody loves the sunshine on it. I love him and his music. He's a cool dude, had the pleasure of meeting him a few times.
There's another version of this track on youtube that's a semitone slower - but it has crappy sound - i'm wondering what's the correct tempo.....this one or the other one - i prefer the slower version - anyone?

@Pipopari, the full version is slightly longer and from his rare UK only Uno Melodic 1983 album Silver Vibrations. A great album that's overlooked.
