This car (GTO), the Camaro Z28/SS, and the Corvette all share the "LS1" engine.

My neighbor has all 3 cars, and I bought his Supra MK4.

But the Supra's robust 2JZ engine tends to handle more power on the STOCK

internals, and responds better to mods. The LS1 WILL require More changes to the STOCK Internals above 500HP, which makes it more expensive.

Nice runs I did this with one of my buddies 04 mach1 with full intake/exhaust. Neck and neck each time winner pretty much determined by how fast we went(gto pulled around 115) or who was quicker on the reaction. Very fun indeed.

@warrooga86 Holden was using United States Pontiac GTO design in 1968–1977. Wouldn't be a GTO or Monaro if it wasn't for United States. Prolly wouldn't be any classic muscle car or today's muscle tuners. Also, since the US version comes with the LS1/2 systems and AUS ver. doesn't, I think i'd take the US version any day. Let me remind you, GM Holden is a subsidiary of the US based GM. :D

@Sublime570 The HK Monaro wasn't even vaguely related to the GTO, and when you had the 255kW LS1 GTO, in Australia they had the 300kW HSV Coupe GTS. It wasn't until 2005 that both the Pontiac and HSV had the 297kW LS2, and they dropped the GTS in Australia. Also, the LS1/2 has been in the Aussie CV8 Monaro the whole production run, from 2002 to 2006. GM may own Holden, but the Monaro/GTO was a backroom after-hours project done entirely by Holden staff. They were Australians, not Americans.

@B70Valkyrie The 60s and 70s GTOs look exact. That's when Holden couldn't handle running on it's own and needed the design to gain popularity. But it doesn't matter really. Both companies are doomed. The LS2 has a big advantage once you start swapping parts. Since it has an over-square bore (4"+), it can take advantage of the L92/LS3 heads. For $800 assembled pair from GMPP, you get intake ports that flow 300+CFM @ .500". The smaller bore of the LS1/6 shrouds the valves and they won't flow as efficiantly.
