the notes are good, its just that im not feeling it. theres more bends, more slides. i that song too. and EVERYTIME i play it i feel it. I got that from john. Im only 12, ive been playing for 4 years now. dont get me wrong, Im not a begginer either. I just REALLY like to observe every single thing/technique that john mayer does. thats why i started playing with my thumb. you play ok though.

Playing since ten years now.

Basically I use the major scale and some arpeggios. @ 01:17 I play the lydian-scale, and in the end, those chords are drop-2 voicings and chromatic-downsteps w/dominant7-chords.

...but I never thought about this while playing. I just tried to listen in which direction the melodic phrase and rhythm could get.

Thanks for your comment. You're right, for bluesy stuff in the style of SRV, the neck-pickup would be the best choice.

In this case, I really love the tone the middle-position of the pickup-switch developes, referring to the early Mark Knopfler and Motown-recordings from the 60/s/70s.

I played through a Fender "Twin" amp simulation by "Guitar Rig 2", using a "Tascam US122" audio interface.

In my opinion, the stratocaster contributes a lot to the tone. Moreover, playing with fingers is always a good guarantor for a tasteful sound.

For example, listen to the rare acoustic version of "Man on the side" by John Mayer. It's a masterpiece of acoustic guitar work (especially in the beginning).

A mixture. The basic theme is inspired by John Mayer's performance (Michael Jackson memorial), whereas the solo afterwards is improvised spontaneously.

The JB-Strat was manufactured in 2008, but bought brand-new just a few months ago.

Although the Noiseless-Pickups are meant to sound like a "modern"-strat, the middle-position of the PU-switch owns a very classical vintage-sound.

I used my ears and eyes to figure out how to play this tune. It isn't this hard to learn, but rather it's difficult to get some "vibe" or "groove" into it.

Nevertheless, the tune is always around G-Lydian (D-Major). First four chords: G | Am | D/F# | G
