PRINCESS AN NE USED TO BE CALLED THE UGLIEST GIRL IN ENGLAND. AND ONE T.V. PERSONALITY SAID P.A. HAD A SWAN-LIKE NECK. SHE HAS NOT GOT WHAT AUDREY HEPBURN HAD. PRINCESS ANNE'S CHIN IS BURIED IN HER CHEST. THE ONLY GOOD THING THAT WEDDING DAY FOR HER WAS HER HAIR STYLE. AND THE WEDDING DRESS. IT REALLY DID MAKE HER. BUT WHAT EVER BECAME OF THAT DUMBO SHE MARRIED AND HIS BEST MAN?
Don't you notice that in The Royal Family names are reused over and over. Anne's Other Name is Louise. Prince Edward's Daughter is named Louise. Mark's Middle Name is Peter and his Son is named Peter. Charles & William both share the Middle Name Of Arthur, Harry's Middle Name is David while a Descendant was known as David before he became King Edward before abdicating. Kate's Middle Name is Elizabeth, and Prince Edward's Middle name is Antony.
I, too, camped in front of Buckingham Palace for the wedding. Arrived around 8 pm and left around 2 pm the next day. The night was full of reporters from all over the world asking us all questions (I was 23 and was asked if I would like to marry Prince Charles. I said if I were then I would be nice and cozy in the palace tonight instead of out here wondering where the nearest loo is!) I wish there was a good "full frontal" photo of the crowd at the base of the monument.
Thank you for uploading this wedding as well. Now we get a chance to see the other Royal weddings in addition to the wedding of Charles and Williams !
@papoocanada It only costs the public approx 1$ per year as the money is invested. its amazing that most brits think that they are continually paying out. The high taxes and national health care are where all the money goes. She married discreetly? Good for her!
there was a wonderful photo taken by lord snowden of Princess Anne sitting under a tree., Very natural and she looked really nice, never seen it since,,
@patteel - Hello. I'm glad I'm not the only one. I tried to like Diana's gown, but just felt it was too puffy & choppy; the neckline was particularly unflattering. Quite a shame for someone as beautiful as she was. I, also wish they hadn't crushed her hair with the crown & veil. HOWEVER, I do believe Princess Anne got it right; nice trim line, regal looking sleeves& high collar. We'll see what the lovely Ms. Middleton turns up in, won't we? Best Wishes.
I remember watching the wedding back in 1973 I have always been a fan of The Princess. I do not remember her making the promise to Love and Obey. How old fashioned. These days no bride would ever promise to Love and Obey. In the digitel age a bride would be more likely to promise to Love and E-Bay.
@darski2007 Like you, I think Princess Anne's wedding dress was elegant and beautiful. I guess it is truly important for a bride, especially a royal one whose actual choices are few, to wear a dress she loves. Diana did that, but I thought her dress was hideous---this very young girl, and her fresh beauty, became lost somewhere in all those puffy, gaudy, yards of (no-doubt expensive) materials. Poor Diana, this was the least of her troubles until the end of her too-short life....
@darski2007 It does make her body look fantastic but it reminds me of a nurses uniform. Diana's dress whilst considered over the top now. Did have a magical air about it.
I think the marriage dissociated soon afterwards. It must have been very difficult for them to maintain their marriage. I sympathize with all people with high stations with regard to their sexual problems.
nothing can beat princess margaret for style and elegance and haut couture....she and the duchess of kent and the late princess marina, duchess of kent. Margaret should have been queen or they should have recycled the queen mum!! This queen has to be the world's worst worst WORST dresser. But margaret would have bought rule not just reign to the crown
Do you have the whole ITV coverage, or know where I could get it? I was in the park outside Buckingham Palace on the day, about 8 yrs old and was interviewed with my little sister, by Judith Chalmers, whilst waiting for the happy couple to appear on the balcony - would love to see it.
The dress was designed and made especially for Anne by a designer called Susan Small who specialised in making off-the-peg gowns rather than haute-couture designs. The unique fabric was called soie annello and woven from pure silk using a thread count of 1000 per inch. Pearls and mirror jewels were used to embroider the edges of the shoulders, sleaves and court-train. The overall effect was utterly stunning and very regal.
@v1x4g2 And it never gets mentioned in any survey of royal weddings. This dress was perfect for the season, the era, and the bride's personality and figure--unlike so many travesties/costumes of most royal brides. Usually, the only comment it receives is that it was "off the rack" (I forget the Brit. expression). Wherever she got it, it showed remarkable taste for such a young bride.
@nauort23 Anne's dress seemed an amalgam of several styles, with mediaeval/Tudor sleeves. It was OK, but I think Princess Margaret's was the most classicly beautiful wedding gown of all the Royals.
@coralarch As much as I like the styles of that era (c. 1960), I couldn't agree with you less about Princess Margaret's wedding dress. The bodice and sleeves were flattering enough, but the poofy skirt made her look short and fat; that boufante style (fad) was about the only thing more short-lived than the marriage itself. And that tiara! ...like something from an animated Disney film!
@nauort23 LOL, well, to each their own. I liked it for its total lack of fuss and frills. H'mm, I never woud of thought of Margaret as short and fat, not then, anyway. Full skirts and bouffants were all the rage back then. The marriage lasted 13 years, in name. I think they were both having affairs, but that's what Royals do, isn't it?.

looking at this ceremony in 2011, what a waste of public money !!! She and Phillips divorced and Ann remarried discreetly.
