His various work in comic books is absolutely amazing, but if you haven't yet read his novel "Crooked Little Vein" then you should do so immediately, and as soon as you reach the end of that book, go back to the beginning & read it again.
I love Warren Ellis -- such an inspiring, SUI GENERIS guy: our Large Hadron Collider of comics, SuperEgo/Id, cerebral/bestial (his face oozes testosterone), writer/raconteur extraordinaire; the fulcrum, keystone, and catalyst for a sequence of events that will recreate the metaverse. Damnit, I'd throw away my 'Malthusian belt' and give up 'soma' for Warren <3 This documentary is a sure winner. Preorder it asap
Some people are like an open book. This guy is several open books, illustrations, blogs, forums, chat rooms, music collections, three-eyed smiley face products and "Where's my fucking coffee?" mugs.
@brokennarcissist Yeah hate to burst the fanboy bubble but Ellis hasn't really done much of interest since Planetary. Am a HUGE fan but lately he's done nish. His rep amongst anyone with good taste hasn't been enhanced by putting his name on the APPALLING Iron man & Wolverine animes as both are terrible in so many ways, & a fuckin' clinic on bad indifferent, cliché ridden writing. Both will stand as all time lows in the guys career. I am GUTTED WTF has happened to Warren Ellis?!?!?!
@Blowfeld20k Yep, Plantery, Authority and early Transmet were good, he reminds me of Frank Miller, write a couple of great books and then write watered down versions of what worked for them in the past.
He doesn't do interviews and ran his website like a nazi and now releasing a documentary? Sounds like someone is desperate to control his image. Can't blame him after his novel was torn apart.
While I agree with you that there are more creative and in some sorts competent writers out there, I wouldn't go that far and say that warren ellis is the worst. True, much of the stuff he puts out at avatar press recently are mediocre entertainment, but he has also done quite a couple of comic books that are quite of a bigger value.
Transmetropolitan is still one of my all-time-favorite comicbook series, "Planetary" is - and I use that term very seldomly - amazing from start to finish, and his first couple of story arcs on "The Authority" were pretty good as well. I consider Mark Millar a much much more overrated writer than Ellis.
This is going to be the greatest documentary ever made. It is going to punch a hole in time so that it will always have been here, and always will be. You know this to be true.

jeez - what a pretentious prick
easily the most over rated comic writer ever.
His books come across as badly scripted Alan Moore knock offs
And, on this documentary, he seems to become a badly scripted Alan Moore knock off
