on the american Beauty one, I think those items are behind the tv on a shelf and not actually on the tv. what you're seeing is an illusion of the items on the tv since they are about the same height. I can see where part of the top of the tv is cutting off the bottoms of some of the items. It was the camera angle that made the items appear to be on the tv.

There was another one that I found in American Pie, the scene where Jim sets up the webcam. The webcam changes angles from the first scene when he was in his room to when he's watching it with is friends. At first, the position is front of the foot of his bed, but the second angle is to the right, looking at the bed and the door.

Ok in the American Beauty one, there is never anything on top of the TV. If you look closely, the items that appear to be on the TV are actually just in the background of the shot, you can actually see the whole surface of the TV. Looks like a lamp or a railing in the background

The Star Wars one wasn't on purpose. The actor inside the suit couldn't see very well and hit his head on the frame. As a reference to it Lucas scripted for Jango to do the same thing in Episode II as a way of saying the stormtroopers were really the clones. Also in the Special Edition they added the sound effect of his helmet hitting the set to tie it all together.
