  • a 77 is a C in texas? What???

    In Canada a 77 is near a B+

  • i love dat eyeshadow wat color is it

  • Personally, I don't have the ability to be there at my kids school as much as I would like to. I've pushed my kids from very young ages to take responsibility for their own education, and it's worked very well so far. I have a 5th, 9th, and 10th grader, and they're all doing fine. If they need help, I'm there for them 100%. If I need to be at the school for any certain reason, I'm there. No, I don't make it a point to always be up there at the school, but I'm there when I need to be.

  • Lol. U crack me up ateyaaa. I just subscribed to ur channel. Hahahahahaha. I really like u, ur a funny person. Lol. I love ur videos.

  • whats the name of this hair piece and by whom?

  • I am very much so involved with my daughters in school. They are in the 3rd grade and Kindergarten but I see myself when they get older to still be involved with my children. My husband is also involved with our girls. We help with homework, make sure that it is done and clean. We talk with teachers have conferences and all. I think it is very important for parents to step-up to the plate and be parents. You had them so help them.

  • you should do another one!! I missed this one

  • I HAVE THAT PHONE! l0l

  • mi mom too

  • Hey what half wig is Ateya wearing here? I like it. Does anyone know t he name?

  • Thanks for something I can listen to and do something else!! I have been hooked on your videos. God bless you for real, for real. I can actually say I knew about you before the world did!!

  • No i dont live there im from philly but I respect you so much you just bring so much to the table

  • I learned alot from this video, no wonder why kids are the way they are today, because of the parents allowing things to happen to their kids or this and that plus etc. Parents need to stand up for their children and make sure they are ok, they are their children and is it wrong for us to assume they love and want only the best for them? Sad.

  • I am involved in my childs education but sometimes the teachers act like they are annoyed with my questions.

  • I know how that feels and I just want to say keep at it. That teacher may be the child's teacher for a year but you are that child's mommy FOREVER so year in and year out we need to be involved parents.

  • Great video.Although,I have a 4.5 year getting ready for kindergarden,I must say parents need to stay involved with their kids no matter what stage in life. They need our guidance and support. As kids age they want more independance and may not want their parents so involved in their daily lives, but parents should stay involved anyway!! Take out "special time" with your kids just to talk or go to a movie perhaps. They'll get the point that Mom and Dad want them to succeed and to do well.

  • sometimes parents stay too involved for to long...im 27 and my mama is still trying to be involved :(

  • don't feel bad..i'm 31 and my mom acts the same way...i guess thats one of the drawbacks of being an only child... for me anyway...i have 3 girls...i am NOT going to involve myself in their adult life unless they ask for my opinion...easier said than done..but i'm so serious....

  • Heck I'm 40+ and my Mama is still involved and the killer part is that I want her to be, she is great, she is my best friend, and I trust her judgement!

  • Thank you Ateeya! As a teacher, I sometimes get discouraged when I stay in my classroom daily until at least 7pm scrambling to present rigorous yet interesting lessons and everyone slams educators. We get 100% of the blame for students not meeting THE STATE'S expectations.

It is truly a team effort, parents and teachers. Parents lay the foundation, teachers build based on that.

People, especially our black people, WE HAVE GOT TO BETTER!

  • One more thing, as a first grade teacher who knows, I think It is simply pathetic to not meet your child's teacher, the person who spends at least 6 hours with your child a day. Wouldn't you want to know the type of person this is?

  • ETA: My cousin on the other hand is not Involved with her little girl and boy in anyway, She is not even taking her kids to school. Her Daughter is 9 years old and will be repeating 2nd grade for the 3rd time because she hasn't taken her to school all year, Dodging social workers and teachers, Making Excuses as to why the kids haven't been in school. And her son will be repeating Kindergarten. Daughter Fast as all get out, I don't speak with her, Her mom Told my mother this It's a sad situation

  • My Daughter will be in 5th grade this year she just Graduated from 4th grade and she has Autism, If it wasn't for me being involved with the teachers and principal and working with my child at home it's no telling how things would have gone even though we are in a good school system. She is doing so well now that She No longer needs the Occupational therapy, But she is still taking the speech therapy for Autism, I'm so proud of my baby, she continues to amaze her teachers all the time :).

  • Excellent vid Ateya! I would just like to say if Ateya makes you that angry or gets under your skin... or "boring" why in the heck do you watch her??? NO LIFE THATS WHY!!! Nice vid Ateya!

  • Yeah I was thinking Ateya looks like her too and kinds like ciara a little

  • have anyone told you look like Pam Grier a bit..

  • yeah!!!...she does...lol....

  • what type of hair is that?

  • Keep up the good work Ateeya. This was a good vid.

  • Thats because a lot of teachers will tell you he or she is old enough to having school without mommy and daddy running up there.

  • This is a little off subject but we have a recent case/incident here in GA where the Principal and Assistant Principal were fired because they or their staff changed answers on failing test papers to bring the schools scores up to state approval levels. They were fired and face other criminal charges because of this.

  • Parenting starts at home. We are there to educate the child not teach them manners or raise them. If the parents don't care it make it worse for teachers. I am a teacher.

  • Im in texas and Im in HS the 11th grade. and Yes, the TAKS test is the most stressful test in the world.

  • This is so true. As the children progress grade level wise...the parent's involvement decreases! I have seen it first hand as a parapro! Parents are not involved for middle and high school. They leave it all up to the children.

  • well i live in florida now and they have to pass the FCAT...im from virginia and they have to take the SOL and they start taking theres in the 3rd grade!!!

  • I am a parent of a six year old and a two year old. I agree that education starts at home. There MUST be teamwork between the teachers and the parents. It's all to benefit the children, they are so important and precious. We, as parents and teachers, owe our children a good head start in life.

  • lOVE your hair :)

  • i love this video overall ateya & i mos def give u props for posting it. there r some key things i love the most:

    1.) very informative

    2. the emphasis of how much PARENTS ARE NEEDED IN THE LIVES OF THEIR CHILDREN! not just in school, but all around. for one of my classes i did a paper dealing with the family of today n this country, & the biggest problem in each study i had to research 4 my paper was that parents were subtracting themselves from the equation of their child's life

  • They do that overseas and it helps to see if the kids really know anything. Cause these kids are really not learning anything in some places and it starts from home. I know my mom really did not help me with HW. I have an associates and a bachelors.

  • Its sad to say this, some parents need counseling than the children do!! You have hurting parents that's raising hurting kids, it doesn't make since, it's the parents job to raise there children the right way not the teachers! please let us not get it twisted, take the time out to talk to the kids not holler at them and down grade them, or control them our job is to guide them in the right direction and hope and pray they will make it in the world! !! love and light!

  • You mean to tell me that Texas is still doing this mess in schools? It was TEAMS back in the day, and we were taking that in the seventh and eighth grade.

  • I dont know if anyone posted this already but it is the same way here in florida. They used to have the HSCT now they have the FCAT. I was the second graduating class that had to pass it in order to get our diploma and it really affected us only 300-400 students graduated out of a class of I think 1000.

  • Ateya, thank you for doing this video. It was needed. I'm a student now, but in my younger years my mom and grandparents were always involved with school. Always askin me about my grades, even when I didnt want to tell em cuz some of them were bad. But they always showed interest, go to pick up my report, discuss things with the teachers. So I think it's very imporant for parents to be involved. Fight for your children at school!

  • amen, i know def when my son starts school his teachers will know who i am. i feel you

  • love the idea of your show

  • I work in the inner city and not seeing a parents on open school night/afternoon is common place. But if a kid goes home and says that someone called him dirty, the whole family wants to show-up and fight u.

We also have Saturday School and kids still fail the test. Cuz half of them do not show-up and parents do not enforce it.

  • You are so right! Talk about misplaced interests. They should be more concerned with the education rather than trivial nonsense.

  • wow girl love this vid i made my sister watch it to i get on to her about her kids alot

  • TAKS test is the way our state measures student and teacher accountability. Unfortunately it is a necessary evil; however, students should not be spoon fed the test. Any teacher who is teaching students based on TAKS material is going against the ideals of not only the district but the TEA. Find out a teachers philosophy before the first day of school. If your philosophy as a parent does not match with their philosophy as a teacher maybe it's not a good match for that academic year.

  • As a parent you have the right to observe the teacher, ask questions. If there is something you don't like you have the right to ask for your child to be moved. Not all teachers love the profession, we are human. Not all teachers are in the field for the right reasons and unfortunately that affects the classroom dynamic. You as a parent can change that just do not sit back helpless because your childs academic future is at stake.

  • Im all up in my child's life in and out of school. I dont let her do nothing without my approval. I know she hears me when she attempts to do wrong.

  • Yes, I am very involved in my daughters academic career. She is now entering the second grade this coming fall. My husband and I made it our business to get to know our daughters teacher and her expectations of our child as well as our role in our daughters development academically. Parents must be involved..when we don't show up for our children it is sending a negative message that we do not care enough about our kiddos education.

  • Thank you so much for addressing this issue Ateya!

  • what happened to your pony tail it was so cute?

  • I think a lot of parents are young and they don't have a clue about what is all about getting involved with there kids education and when there is a single parent home a lot time the parent is working 2 jobs to just to pay for everyday life. I feel that we need to find a way to teach the parents and help them be more involved in there kids educations.

  • I stay involved with my sons. They are soon to be 17 and 21. The teachers, principal, vice principle know me by name and by face. We stay in touch via email, cell phone, work phone, home phone..lol

When my oldest was in school..I did the same thing. I'm grateful that the school system where I live is pretty much on point.(then again, I'm not going to have it any other way.lol). It takes a collabo between the student, the teacher and the parent in order for things to go well.

  • My mom is just like you lol... My principal from my private schools, elementary all the way up to high school knows her. My teachers and past principals and her are all friends they call each other, when they see my sister and I they ask for her. Your sons ages are so close to my sister and I. Im 17 and my sister is turning 20 lol weird

  • When I entered the public school system I was in the 4th grade In Florida we take the FCAT, and I believe it starts in the 3rd grade and you have to take it all the way up to your junior year, if you dont pass it you have to stay back a grade or they may have mercy and allow you to retake it. At my High School if you didnt pass it you couldnt attend any of the senior activities like trips or even walking in your own graduation. It used to be just reading and math but now it includes science.

  • I agree with you I am one who lives in Texas and my kids has to take the task. But I also will like to say that I am a parent who is involved me and my husband I can say that is one plus for being self employed for me and my husband. Great video

  • Great vid Ateeya, I know of some parents the only time you will see them at the school is on the 1st&last day of school! I attend field trips, parties, etc, and you would be amazed to see that not many parents participate!parents MUST do their part as well as teachers.

  • I agree we as parents definitely need to be more involved with our children's education, but teachers don't have the passion for teaching anymore! I'll never forget my son's first day in headstart, the first thing the teacher told me was - you do know what time you're supposed to pick him up, right?" Mind you this is my first time ever meeting her. She didn't greet me, introduce herself or acknowledge my child. So I think teachers and parents both need to get involved and work as a team.

  • Go, Oprah, Jr.! Let the people speak!

  • all 3 of my kids was truely stress....out with the TAKS test...but great news...THEY ALL PASSED!!!

  • Congratulations, you're doing a great job in the community! Taking care of your children, our future.

  • I'm glad you put this video out there. We all as parents need to make sure we stay involved in every aspect of our children's schooling developing, from the beginning to the end.Our involment in there schooling will make a huge difference.Great, Great Video Ateeya. Keep doin what you do girl ! HEART YA !

  • girl love the live lets talk with Ateeya!! this was very informative! keep up the good work!!

  • I LOVE YOU ATEYA!!!!!! YOU ARE GREAT!

  • Great video Ateya, very important

  • Teachers are not at fault. We are asked to educate children not raise them. WE are charged with educating many children and design our teaching mehods to the needs of our students. Parents must Parent and partner with Teachers. Don't leave it to schools look out for your children. People wake up and take responsibility for your children. . Show your love with intrest in your child's school. Let your children know how you feel about education. It makes a difference. You are child's first teacher.

  • well said!!!

  • I agree with you whole-heartedly! We are really asking the schools to do way too much! Schools are not social service agencies, hospitals, or therapy offices....btw in chicago a 77 is a D

  • You are so great! I was actually looking for tips on hair extentions and come across your videos.. and OMG.. You are Awesome.. Keep to Good WORK!!

  • im really glad u made this video. my daughter is only 8 months but it gives me something to think bout when she does get in school. even starting from daycare. i sit her down and read to her and play lil "black and white" card games....but being involved in childs life is a blessing because not many parents have that opportunity. im a stay at home mom....so i take advangtage of spending every min i have with her and teaching her and showing her how to learn new things everyday. Thanks Ateyaa

  • Those tests are designed to fail students. We have a similar test in FL called the FCAT and our former governor Jeb Bush couldn't even pass it.

  • yeah...i live in FL and is currently a senior in high school...thank god i passed ALL parts of the FCAT on the first try!!

  • The forever clever ateyaa!

  • I am also a teacher and parental involvement is so very important. Parents just don't understand how much their child really need their support. It makes such a big difference.

  • I understand alot. Simply because Im a Junior at Ball High in Galveston Tx. I had to give up my honor classes cause everything was getting HARD! And when I tell you those teachers dont care! THEY DONT CARE! I had to make it on my own and Icried so much over all the things that my school put me through. I dont even want to go back to school. You have no clue what kind of stress they put on us. You do one thing...its not good enough. Its so sad and stressful.

  • I believe the same is true, it's important for parent's to be involved in their child's education. However my mom wasn't very much involved but it didn't affect me because I was and have always been independent and self-sufficient.

  • I am not a mother yet but this was an excellent vid.. I love the talk live and I feel it is a great idea and add so much more to your channel,, Much love and congratulations.

  • This was a great video. I'm a very involved parent, because similar also happened to my straight A and B child. The teacher gave a C out of no where. Teacher didn't want to explain the C, so I went to the Principal also. There are so many bad teachers..it's like getting luck of the draw every year. That is public school for you.

  • My mom was and still is very active in my school/education life. From being in H.S I see alot of parents aren't active in their child's school lives which is really sad. And, I find it VERY funny how they complain, scream and shout when their child fails a class or doesn't graduate.

  • As a Middle Grades Edu. and a parent of one, I believe it goes both ways.Parents have to be involve and if they are the teachers must also be willing to communicate. to the Parents PLEASE STOP buying your child new clothes, shoes, ect.if they not doing well in class.I can't understand how students can get horrible grades but come to school with new gear everyday..PLEASE STOP your child will continue to believe mediocrity is okay and it is not. You can't get anywhere in life by being MEDIOCRE.

  • I am a high school Science teacher. Your cousin is right. Parental involvement is necessary for student success. This especially true as the student gets older. You would be surprised how behavior problems or unsatisfactory grades are affected by teacher-parent communication. I have had parents hide out in a closet to watch their daughter in class. That student made a 180 after that.

  • Hi Ateyaa, Im a single mom of 3 boys ages 14, 12, & 8. I am completely involve. My older 2 are gifted (youngest hasnt been tested...Yet!) My oldest took his SATs at 12yrs old. They have never made a C. My 12 yr old makes All As..& im not talking barely but 100s and 99s. They want to attend Harvard & Yale. They do know that education is most important in our home. I started teaching them as toddlers the importance of reading, organization, and work before play. They know I champion 4 them ALWAYS!

  • Parents should be involved with their childrens education. Even if you are a single parent. It make a world of difference.

  • My daughter's school requires the parents volunteer IN class at least once a month to ensure the parents are involved in the education process. I believe it is imperative to manage your children's teachers. I don't want to step on their toes, but I do want to actively participate in ensuring my child is learning and will ultimatley be successful!

  • Hey ateya, I love the hair! Anyway, you did an excellent video. My best friend, passed away last year but she was one of the teachers who went the extra mile. She used to always tell me about the parents who didn't care about how their children were doing in school. She would make countless phone calls to the house, cell, even work phones to let the parents know about their child. This issue is very important, thanks for shedding some light on this.

  • In baltimore grade school kids have to take the MSA(Maryland state assesment) to pass to the next grde I'm in high school and we have to take the HSA"s (high school assesment )there are 4 tests algebra, english, biology, and goverment if u dont pass these tests by your senior year u wont graduate teens are stressing out about these tests and most of them dont make it

  • Leshababy we all like her long videos. Keep doing you Ateya.

  • im going to 7th grade and im in the honors class. im a straight a student.i work hard. they key is focus

  • i meant to say the key is focus sorrry

  • PEOPLE/PARENTS! take head please. You are your child, your child is a product of who you are. Please teach them and help them 100%. You get out of your child what you instill in them, take the time out. When you see yourself getting lazy then thats when you step your game up. Don't get too tired or too lazy because its all worth the time you put into your family. Take head please. Thany you Ateya.

  • you kinda look like queen latifa.

  • I remember that i had to take both the TAAS and TAKS test...ahh the memories my parents were always involved in my school work so I didnt struggle at all...although i had major issues with math kids really need someone positive in their lives to give them that extra push!

  • Hey ateyaa in North Carolina students have to take your End of Grade Test from 3rd to 12th grade and in 3rd 5th and 8th grade if you dont pass the test you are retained its ridiculous and the test is really hard!

  • @ 5:57 I have to agree with you cousin. I used to live inDallas, TX and the Latina parents are actively (I mean actively) involved in their childs education. It is our responsiblity as parents to be there. If you can't show your face, make a phone call, email, use your lunch break to drop in on your child. It really pays off. P.S. Keep all of your childs graded school work!!! It will pay off!!!

  • your videos are good but so long1

  • I completely agree. I volunteered at my daughters school twice a week for my lunch hour. It is a small sacrifice and it opened my eyes to what my daughter does everyday in school. How she is treated, where she is weak academically etc.

Parents, please try to be there for your kids, they will appreciate it and notice. BTW, I am not married and yes I am a single parent.

    Great video Ateyaa!!

  • I agree with you 100%....the only thing is that i regret not paying attention in school.... And now i am paying the price, because i will get my ass to write an essay.

  • I was a parent volunteer at my children's school throughout their school years, and as a result of me being involved in their education they graduated high school and college. I was on the LSC ( Local School Council) I was given employment as the school pc technician, I was the secretary asst. to the school principal, I chaperoned field trips.

My son is in the u.s. navy and my daughter is in law enforcement.

  • As a junior in college I can honestly say one of the only reasons I've gotten this far is because my parents fought hard to make sure I got a good education. I can remember being 4 years old and my mother making me write my letters and numbers and learn to read, and now even 16 years later they're still pushing me. Throughout my education I've dealt with many educators who did not care about my education but the reason I've done so well is because my parents instilled in me a desire to learn.

  • Hey Ateyaa , being a student and going to the nineth grade. Everything is going to count more. While being in middle school i felt t hat there was only two involved teachers that i could fo to and ask questions . While the other trachers would just push the work in front of u and not explain it. This year I got three C's on my report card because I wasnt being helped by my teachers

  • Hammer, don't hurt'em with that look...lol. You look fab......

I love this video.... I'm actually experiencing this right now. My daughter has passed the whole school year however, she failed both the math and reading. She get's very nervous testing as a result, she failed both. She has to attend summer school for the test only. I spoke with her summer school teacher yesterday and she asked me how did my daughter fail the test because she knows all the answers. She just doesn't test well.

  • My daughter isn't even 2 years old, and I am VERY involved in her education. I have already set educational goals for my daughter...she will be at the top of her class when she starts school. :o)

I work at a school, and I see the results of starting TOO LATE, and that will not be the case in this household...my daughter will know EVERYTHING that a Kindergarten student is supposed to know BEFORE she gets in Kindergarten :)

  • let me start off lwith saying the looks is so beautiful :)

ok my parents are the same way lol they dont except a C and when i was in kindergarden my teacher was giving me 0's on work because he never took it up from me and my mom and aunty did exactly what your cuzin did

  • One of your best videos ever, if not the best. Love it!!

  • i thought that in america in order to get to another grade you have to take a test...

  • In GA if I'm correct they have to pass a test called the CRCT. This test starts in the 3rd grade, you don't pass you dont go to the 4th grade. As parents we get caught up in the day-to-day but we have to remember its our job to be our child's advocate. Dont wait for those notes or parent-teacher yearly meetings. Call them send a note to them to check on your child's progress

  • To finish my last comment...I got my butt involved again and that was all it took...the grade came back up to where it should have been! My daughter is one of those kids who will definitely take a mile if you give her an inch...like most kids i suspect. I had to learn the hard way that just because the kids are older, that does not mean that you as a parent can slack off on staying involved with their education.

    Sorry for the long comment...lol

  • I was one of those kids that would take a mile also lol...but thank God for my parents staying on me. Good job ;-D

  • This video really hit home with me. I know that I was guilty of slacking when my daughter got into the eighth grade. Up until then, I had gone to all of the conferences, and whatnot. Well, I started working massive hours and just thought to myself that she was getting older and she had always done good...so...if I missed a couple of conferences it would not matter right? WRONG!! My daughter ended up almost failing an English class because I was not making her be accountable with homework.

  • Your cousin is an angel!!! If all teachers were like her the world would be a much better place! It seems most teachers are teachers just so they can get all of the paid vacation that they get! Very few do it because they love kids and enjoy teaching them!

  • The responsibility is on both ends. Teachers can't do thier job if the parents are not doing thier part.

  • I am not a parent yet but I do believe that it is important for parents to be involved in their children's education. When me and my sister was in school my mom and my dad made sure that me and my sister completed our homework and that all of our answers were right. Both of my parents were involved for me and my sister.

  • Thank you Ateyaa! I will be a middle school teacher by next year in Virginia with urban children. I already know this is a problem and I just pray that our community will step up and start being involved in their child's academic life. I will be there to help the kids but I will need the parents to help me as well.

  • This is exactly why I took my 8 year old out of public school. My child requires one on one more so than many of the other children and the teachers weren't or couldnt give him what he needed. I took him out in 2nd grade. He is now in 4th grade and won Most Improved Student at his private school. I am sure had he remained in public school he would have been stressed out, discouraged and even held back. The teachers in public school are overwhelmed with the politics of testing.

  • My husband and I have decided to enroll our daughter in private school as well. She is currently attending a DoDDSchool and even though by most standards, the curriculum is great, the student/teacher ratio is ridiculous. This year there were 31students in my daughter's 1st grade class. Not to mention that her teacher informed me that there were parents that she had never seen! Add lack of parent participation along with any behavior issues and it makes the teachers job impossible.

  • I cant believe a private school would have a 31:1 ratio, that defeats the whole purpose of sending your child to private school. The main draw is the low student to teacher ratio. Sounds like your school needs to hire some more teachers!!

  • Nanadsyl, you misunderstood me. I was saying that in her current DoDDSchool, the ratio was 31:1 and because of that, we are moving her to a private school.

  • OK that makes more sense. You are doing the right thing for your child and you will not regret it. Best of luck to you and yours.

  • The example that your cousin gave is what I have been experiencing. I think it is overated that teachers aren't paid enough. Most of us who are doing service jobs aren't. The bad teachers use that as a scape goat for not doing their jobs. It a job when you as the parent are also the only teacher. 8 hrs @ work then almost 8hrs @homework. But if you luv your kids that is how it is now. It not fair on both ends. And the kids get hurt.

  • I believe there shouldnt even be a test. A student shouldn't be graded by that test, it doesnt prove how intelligent because regardless if they're passing all their classes, if they fail the test they will be repeating the same grade. I'm a actual person that experienced it firsthand. I didnt graduate highschool with my class because of the test, even though I had all A's and had all my credits but because I couldnt pass the TAKS test I couldnt walk with my class.

  • I believe that is wrong on sooo many levels!!! If a student is able to maintain a 3.0 - 4.0 gpa and have all of their credits, why on Earth should they be denied the right to graduate?! You EARNED that! So, a person barely passing their classes who can test well should be allowed to walk rather than someone who worked hard all year?! That is a load of CRAP!!!

  • single parents are almost the majority now a days with divorce rates up and the high rate of unwed mothers and fathers but that is no exscuse to not be apart of your childs education especially our young men not excluding the our young ladies. I know as well as everyone else what a child can face not being grounded in academics especially people of color. So make no mistake be their even if your tired and you cannot keep your eyes open let your child's future be that burst of fresh air.

  • Heck yea!! I even e-mail the teacher just to check in. I know teacher's that don't even teach my kids bc it seems like teacher's talk and know whether or not you are helpful and are in your child's life.

  • Im a student. I agree with yall, it's true some teachers just dont care but u have to make sure ur child is getting their education needs met. in 5/6 grade here, NYC, we had to take citywide exams too. but the school is supposed to give the child practice exams for those tests so they can better understand its material. Those are special exams that need special preparation.

  • I'm extremely involved with my 2 sons education, so much I decided to go to school to get a certification. Early on in my 7 yrs olds education he was diagnosed with a learning/speech disorder this triggered a fight inside of me and now he is coasting thru and grasping good. Parents you make the difference, spend time with your children, study and help them with their homework, and communicate with their teachers.

  • "Teachers and Parents working together" - I totally agree! It's work, lazy parents step up!

  • I agree with you. Stop blaming the teachers all the time. TEACHERS CAN'T BE EVERYWHERE when they have 25students . Parents have to play their roles as well.

  • try 45 students. I had so many children in my class at one time I actually had to borrow chairs from neighboring classes AND had students sitting at my desk and on tables. We spent nearly 20 minutes just taking roll. *shaking head*

  • My mother was a single mom and had 6 kids. She worked 2 sometimes 3 jobs so she didnt have the time to make sure we all were doing our homework or getting good grades. We had to want to do good for ourselves. Now with my 2 kids the teachers KNOW me by first, last name ect.... I'm sure they're probably sick of hearing from me. I try to be as involved as possible. I want the next generation of my family to progress.

  • ya i know where i live the education system is harder but ya ...... its still sick love ya girl always u keep something good up

  • i miss u girl

  • This whole taking a test to pass to the next grade started when Bush did the No Child Left Behind Act if you read the legislation it really is not very helpful to the kids, teachers or parents! I know some schools actually teach the test currently schools funding from the government and how much teachers are paid is based on the test scores. It's good in some ways but over all I don't think it's effective. That's just my 2 cents.

  • we were taking them exams long time since, in NYC. but they are supposed to give u practice exams and lessons on how to understand and pass the citywides. but to just throw them in the classroom and take that exam is scary and many people fail. thats not fair. they're supposed to show them how to do it.

  • Teachers are Definitely Underpaid!!! My son is 2 and believe me the teachers will know me by name. Parental Involvement is Critical! Very Good Video!

  • I love your channel YOU ARE A GREAT PRESON FOR THINGS LIKE THIS !!!!!!

  • I remember that test you were talking about, ours was the FLE and I'm from Mississippi I think it was taken in the Junior or Senior year in high school. Texas don't play!! Loved your new segment...Let's Talk w/Ateya Live.

  • We live in a world of great technology & I say utilize that if you can't make an in person apperance & to all the teachers and childcare workers I say 1st of all thank you..but just remmeber that we as parents rely on you for many things as well..You are sometimes with our children more than we as parents are...It's about teamwork and a strong partnership..as they say it takes a village

  • THat is true. I agree.

  • This leaves us very little time to attend to all matters rearding school.. Thank goodness we were blessed to get free tutoring this year..there are times that I can not attend to all things regarding school...I think the key is to make yourself know to your child's teachers..You can not always take off work, between the sick days and doctor's appointments..popping up at the school isn't always an option....

  • Hey Ateyaaa, I love your channel..I'm here in Seattle and our test is called the WASL & it starts in the 3rd grade. The parents here have fought to get rid of this test and we were finally successful!!!. I am a single parent, working full-time & attending school full-time. I get home about 6:00pm which leaves about 2 1/2 hrs left to talk with my daughter & find out about her day..Time to play with her and laugh..make sure she's "ok"..

  • In my area students begin taking standardized test in kindergarten. Yes Kindergarten. Of course as a teacher I do EVERYTHING I can to assist the students. I'm talking time, money, and talent. The best advice I can give to parent is be "involved" in your child's life in all aspects. Parenting is a extremely large chore (First hand experience). I invest a lot of time into my kids. I want them to be well rounded, productive citizens. Exhausting, but well worth it!

  • that is so true about what she said about as kids get older the parents seems 2 focus more on sports then their academics. i think the parents r thinking of their child being a famous basketball player or football player so they would rather them get the athletic scholarships but they seem 2 forget 2 keep a scholarship they must have the education 2 keep the grades up 2 stay on any sports team.

  • In Chicago we take the Iowa test and it starts in 3rd grade. They take them every year until the 11th grade in order to pass on to the next.

As for parents being invloved. I do what I call my sneak attacks. I sneak up there and look in the class. That was how I was done and thats the way I am. My mother was at my grammer school & High School so much to the point were everyone would tell me she was there. I couldnt make a move without her knowing. And it works.

  • hey ateya!

i have that same phone lol

im 16 years old and i just wanted to say that my parents are VERY involved with my school work.

im in the IB program and i take alot of advanced & AP classes. well to be honest i appreciate them doing it but at times it gets a little aggravating when your parents are always on top of you asking you about this project & that project. also we take the FCAT in fl and that also determines if we go on to the next grade. i don't see a problem with it

  • Oh Ateya..we've been doing TAAS since 4th grade or 5th or 3rd..They are kinda crazy with this.!

  • i took ADD pills in 3rd-5th grade and it totally stripped me of my personality. haha never again.

  • This your BEST "Let's Talk w/ Ateya" . . . I hope people really watch this and take heed. Be involved in your child's education! Good job Ateya (and your cousin)!

  • However, when my brothers had Football games they would be the first ones there...they always knew when they played, who they played, and where they played (which really effected me tremedously)... I think its really important parents are involved, and I most def think it would make a major MAJOR difference. Good Subject Ateya!!

  • What ur cuzzin was saying is soo correct. My parents were always aware and apart of whats going on with school and education purposes. But, when we I got to Highschool my parents didnt to much focus on me and my grades until I got like a report card or progress report and if it didnt meet her standards they would just say "get it fixed".

  • great video! not a parent but i think many out there should take this into consideration.

  • WELL SAID.

  • I know in the younger grades my parents would be in school checking up on me but once i hit high school they slowed down to twice a year .I was a B TO B+ student so i guess they did not feel the need to ,but for other HS students they might need more parent involvement. Some kids need more support than others.Great Vid!!!!!!!!!

  • That was an awesome video, Ateya. Thank you so much.

  • great video

  • Parents being involved not only helps with grades and school matters but is also a self esteem factor, makes a child know and see that they are important and loved which then will make their transition into different levels in life smoother. they will be able to make the right choices and think about consequences b4 they do wrong. i think theres even research that shows crime rate will lower also.... Keep up the good work Ateeya

  • i love your videos

  • everything you and your cousin said was so true

  • Good video.

  • wonderful vid.

  • I teach 7th grade in SC. The testing does kill the kids. We have PASS. It does not determine promotion, but it does determine class placement. PASS testing for the 7th grade determines freshman courses in high school. So kids have to be prepared. The teachers can't do it all, we NEED the parents. In fact, many times when I call I just flat out tell the parents, "I NEED YOUR HELP." Usually, it works.

  • ha ha I have that phone

  • What kind of phone is that? It's very nice.
