I also loved pokemon a lot when i was a little dude, so i made my own cards as well cause i couldn't afford some my self. This ended up being to boring so i made my own Trading Card Game. That was awesome xD

Our (European) history is to blame. Portugal, Spain, the UK, and most of the France territory should be UTC 0 (standard time). Germany invaded France and France began to use UTC +1. Spain supported Germany and Italy and since they used UTC +1, we adopted it for simplicity's sake.

Haha ohh I hate how incorrect the European time zones are, Portugal is in GMT and Galicia is the same timezone as the rest of Spain! LOL.
And France is supposed to be in GMT too. Tutt.
