Thomas Jefferson and James Madison were the 1st Democratic/Republicans elected as Presidents of the United States.
Jefferson wrote the Declaration of Independence and was responsible doubling the size of the US w/The Louisiana Purchase. And Madison...Help start and create Americas law of the land--The Constitution of The United States.
These two men in my opinion were responsible for the greatness that became America.

He called his party the Democratic Republican and became our 3rd President He was an inventor, a botanist, a linguist, spoke and wrote over 7 languages. He was an architect, a writer, a surveyor, an equestrian, and help start the Congressional Library by giving it his own books. He was the 1st renaissance man. He was brilliant!

We will never get back to the way it was. My financial situation is getting worse and worse. I am not sure about TSA scanners. The planes are public, not private, it doesn't seem like the worst intrusion of government to scan people. Not that the scanners are good, but I am much more worried about detention of suspects without following long-established legal procedures (many of which actually are important Constitutional issues) and torture. The planes are used by the public and the government provides a huge portion of the infrastructure. Their is an understanding in contract law: there are at least three parties to any contract, the private parties that put the contract together and the government that has to enforce the contract.

Reagan started what today is called a war on drugs. This war has been a complete failure. You cant defeat the drug problem unless you reduce demand. Demand is the decision which is up to the individual not the government. Unemployment was pretty high. Invaded Granada. Sold arms to Iran. Imports rose while exports decreased. Which makes sense, since, Afghanistan is really far away and it would be kind of hard to get it here from there, while the Mexican border is large and porous.

Thomas Jefferson is to me the greatest Founding Father and President of the United States we ever had. He was in a sense the founder of both political parties. He called his party the Democratic Republican and became our 3rd President He was an inventor, a botanist, a linguist, spoke and wrote over 7 languages. He was an architect, a writer, a surveyor, an equestrian, and help start the Congressional Library by giving it his own books. He was the 1st renaissance man. He was brilliant!

We will never get back to the way it was. My financial situation is getting worse and worse. I wonder how much time should the Congress spend debating their raise? Weeks? Months? As long as the raise isn't huge (and it wasn't), I'd rather they spent their time doing stuff that actually makes a difference. Getting an extra $1,500 or even $15,000 per year adds less than $10million to spending, what 25 minutes of the Iraq War costs. I am not sure about TSA scanners. The planes are public, not private, it doesn't seem like the worst intrusion of government to scan people. Not that the scanners are good, but I am much more worried about detention of suspects without following long-established legal procedures (many of which actually are important Constitutional issues) and torture. The planes are used by the public and the government provides a huge portion of the infrastructure. Their is an understanding in contract law: there are at least three parties to any contract, the private parties that put the contract together and the government that has to enforce the contract.

We need to eliminate the corporate and wall street elite that control the economy. Until then, it wont matter who is in office. The stocks are rigged, prices artificially controlled, banks are centralized, and companies are becoming government controlled more and more.

Remember that the reason America has changed so much is that we trusted our repreentatives. Trust no one who is payed by the government, especially if you voted for him/her.
Change does not occur in government, change occurs in our hearts and minds. Once we no longer trust our government, as many polls seem to show is true, then we can achieve Liberty. Liberty is not given; you are either free or you are a slave.

The people need the tax breaks more than the companies do. Lessen taxes and cut Federal spending.... it's the sure fire way to get our country back on the right track, but the Congress needs to be taken out before anything can be done.

Do you disagree with the principles outlined in the Declaration of Independence, which Jefferson wrote? We havent had an economy since the first central bank of America. We havent had a president since JFK. We havent had a country since 911. The government is to blame but there is a more general issue. The gradual decay of people. remember that the government is full of people. Those who vote are people. And as we all know people can be very ignorant. we need to start electing engineers, scientists, etc. Not senators, oil tycoons, actors, etc.

Reagan was a great president to a few but an asshole to many more.(like every other president) Technically we have had a country since 911 but I cant even remember the US before this war. Smart people tend to be professors, scientists, writers, and inventors. Most of these people do work for big companies. Imagine if Einstein worked for Halleburton!

Reagan started what today is called a war on drugs. This war has been a complete failure. You cant defeat the drug problem unless you reduce demand. Demand is the decision which is up to the individual not the government. Unemployment was pretty high. Invaded Granada. Sold arms to Iran. Imports rose while exports decreased. Other than that I think he was just fine.

Unemployment remained about 6% average during his 8 years. thats prettyy low. @nintendude60 The War on drugs is a joke - especially when the CIA is one of the biggest drug runners on the planet (why do you think Opium production has skyrocketed since we've been in Afghanistan after being almost wiped out when the Taliban was in charge?) Watch "War Against the Third World" (I think it's on Google) for another take on the same subject - among others that are just as nauseating. It will give you a different perspective of why we are not that well regarded around the world.

I am not a liberal and I have a nephew who is a pilot in the Air Force who has been on missions there multiple times and will again. @sheema56 @sheema56 Actually according to the Office of National Drug Control Policy Afghanistan is the largest producer of Opium, but the United States gets most of it's opium from Mexican and Columbian gangs. Which makes sense, since, Afghanistan is really far away and it would be kind of hard to get it here from there, while the Mexican border is large and porous.

We have lost 10 basic constitutional rights courtesy of Bush and his criminal posse starting with the Patriot Act. They have not been restored and their absence is a fundamental threat to an open democratic society if the government wants to play rough or they manufacture another "threat".
