Notice the blonde woman at 0:31? That's Lindsay Duncan, who played the character of Servilia (the mother of Brutus) on HBO's Rome nearly ten years later.
@ayansb - thanks for making that connection! I'm so glad to hear some shout-outs for Lindsay Duncan. I think she's a terrific actress and so lovely. If you haven't seen her in "Almost Strangers" ("Perfect Strangers" in the UK), do yourself a favor and rent it - she is fantastic & heart-breaking.
@wylib I couldn't agree more, so glad to hear people praising her!! She is one of my favorite actresses. So incredibly talented! I have loved her in so many things, but I do think Poliakoff's movies give her a chance to really show what she can do. I loved "Almost Strangers", but I think "Shooting the Past" may be my favorite collaboration between them. For all the money in Hollywood, every country seems to outshine ours in terms of great storytelling.
thank you so much for posting this. the cast of characters is breathtaking. and lovely to see a window outside of hollywood into a place where acting is more about art and life than about money and commerce. thank you thank you.
the fellow to the right of samuel is robert sean leonard - who i best remember from Dead Poets Society - so beautiful. this is an amazing cast of characters, isn't it? a very young claire daines behind toby stephens at :54 - so lovely.
Casting directors must be esp DUMB in US b/c TS is the PERFECT leading man: full head of hair, great smile, sparkly eyes, commanding walk/voice, etc. Too bad they don't notice all this, PLUS he's a great actor!
God I like this piece!! I always wonder what rehearsal is like. In this piece like everyone is so involved and freely and fairly to share ideas and express feelings.
Love toby's smile and talking in this one. It casts what he is like in ordinary life which is not less charming than when he is on the screen even when as a villain.
I agree. Who's the instructor? Cicely Berry? Patsy Rhodenburg? What's the name of this video series? Where can I get it? How can I see it in its entirety?
not gonna happen. Hasn't got the looks for leading man. Not 'all-american' enough. Looks too European, too aristocratic. That doesn't go down well with Producers. good for villains though!
Seems we have a lot of leading men that are less handsome than Toby. And some Brits who aren't as handsome have made a success in our films, as well. So I still dont' get it. Maybe Jane Eyre will change that. As for his coloring, doesn't seem so different from the young Robt. Redford.
oh he's PLENTY good looking enough. But they're not appealing good looks. they're slightly cool, and not warm. Redford looks like the boy next door. Stephens looks like the son of the richest man in the state.
The seminar was done in New York in 1996, and the point was for the Royal Shakespeare Company to bring together British and American actors so they could learn from each others' styles
Thank you so much for all those TS related vids! God! As always,he is amazing:D *thud* I like Robert Sean Leonard too:) So,this vid goes to faves like others!

At 2:16 is that Samuel L Jackson on the left? Who is on the right? He looks so familiar.

Maybe you're right. But I've seen him in roles in which he seemed pretty natural.

Interesting. Is this in America or UK? There are several Americans here.

The RSC has some very nice videos on their site. I've seen a couple of their productions over the years and admire them very much.
