  • Im a big fan of Nagauta Shamisen but you Tsugaru players have really had me hooked on Tsugaru jamisen music xP

  • @Chichiri520 Thanks for the comment! I've been learning a lot more folk songs (yet to upload videos, sorry!) since about a year ago and I've grown to love tsugaru shamisen music even more now. I haven't gotten a chance to go see or hear much nagauta/jiuta shamisen but it certainly does have its own unique appeal.

  • @jdsmash

I dont play shamisen or nagauta shamisen..YET. But I do play Okinawa Sanshin which you can hear on my channel ^_^ I REALLY cant wait to get a shamisen. Did you learn by yourself? I have seen some tutorials in Japanese here on YT and shamisen score doesnt look that complicated.

  • @jdsmash

I know this is late response lol. That is the beauty of all styles of Shamisen, theyre all unique. I was about to get into learning Nagauta shamisen style but Amami Shamisen stole my heart and ran off with it xD

  • it's coming along. interesting how everyone plays Nikata bushi a little different.

  • I've just been trying to interpret the techniques from the couple video's online, I'm still confused on a couple of things honestly haha

  • Meet me in L.A. next week and I can go over this peice with you. basically the things to keep in mind are that you can start it a number of different ways, the structure in the middle is set but the number of times you repeat phraese is up to you. unless you are accompanying a singer or shakuhachi player. Even when I played this with Hidano Shuichi, the middle part was more or less determined on the spot. (not set in stone)

  • Hey, hate to bother ya but i got a quick question, around 53 seconds you start playing the part that stumps me. How do you hit the 2nd string and then strike the 3rd string to get 3 tones from it? Is this a special technique? If you could help i would appreciate it, Cheers!

  • Hey, I made a video response to your question, I figured it might be easier to explain that way. I hope that helps!

  • hey man, Akita Nikata bushi is definitely a hard one, been trying to get down the bachi and finger placements for a while, but no luck haha. Anyway, keep up the great work and thanks for uploading!

  • Way to go, Josh! Thanks for your Aiya Nushi performance at the Monsters show yesterday!

  • Thanks Mike, I loved watchin the show! I imagine it was pretty obvious that I was nervous...I felt rather fidgety what with all the camera's and such haha. I can't wait to meet up again sometime!
