  • Awesome Thunderbolt

  • i don't know if it's a REAL thunderbolt... because there only 11 red fairlanes out there, the rest were all white.

  • fairlanes are beast.. i have a 63 k-code

  • RECORD FOR STOCK CARS? OR JUST 1/4MILE IN GENERAL??

  • So what if the dag-gone record is broken, this is still awesome. Thanks for posting.

  • @pomposo11 Thank you for the comments! Your exactly right!

  • sorry this so called "record" is beat ...check youtube

  • @TheRocketSilo .. the record is 9.23

  • @TheRocketSilo This video is three years old and when I posted it, it was the record holder.

Since you are the self appointed record expert, I'll run it by you before I post any videos that have "record holders".

  • My Cousin owns one called Nazy Crate and it is fully restored by my cousin it is also has hot wheel car made after the beutiful car he has worked on 7 other ford thunderbolts he may have even restored this car!

  • I saw these Fords race at a Detroit drag strip. Everyone always used to talk about Chrysler Mopar...but Thunderbolts won when I saw them. Really bad little Fords.

However, if I remember correctly in 64, you had to sign an agreement not to drive these cars on the road.

  • Took a pretty darn good driver to get the Thunderbolt through the lights.......very touchy.

  • These cars stock produced in few numbers... Did mid 11 secs at the quarter... they are bad ass for the time... 11's in the 60's man... Damn....

  • @tjgcreations The truth is we may never know just how fast they were running - they might not even had known due to stopwatch accuracy and such. There's one guy who's racing his original Thunderbolt still [tribute/what else do you do with it??] and his fastest time on youtube that I've seen is a 9.8 quater mile. I think the biggest shocker is the "skinny" tires on these cars - by today's standards, they're running street tires and with more tire that time may get even smaller than 9.8.

  • @fraidykat The scarier part is, this guy racing his car has not done any modifications to it, asside from changing out the bearings every 15 races or so. So essentially, that car has theoretically had the potential to run an easy 9-10 sec 1/4 mile since 1964. O_O Another interesting thing is, even after they took all the weight out, they would then add traction bars to the underframe, as low as possible. Tricky balance - ther ehas to be SOME weight to keep the tires from just spinning!!

  • I think if I could have any muscle car in the world. It would be a thunderbolt@@

  • An insulting question would be: while accelerating down the track, do some drivers steer with their left hand while they toss off with their right hand?

  • Paul Adams---a fine gentleman!

  • Theres nothing like a 427 and 4 speed

  • @GTP427cobra That's right. Well not just a 427 but all high performance big block Fords.

  • One bad ass FORD.

  • is it a real t-bolt?

  • REAL Thunderbolts were 2 door sedans, NOT 2 door hardtops!

  • My grandfather drag raced a thunderbolt and a 64 featherweight. If he still had them they would be worth alot of money.

  • that car will run I noticed that before I seen the ET

  • Sounds like you've had yourself a fine ford collection over the years. I only have 1 old ford... so far. I was looking at a '64 falcon a while back, shoulda bought it... damn.

  • @crownv80

It was a fairlane, that was lightened up, with a built 427. They had fiberglass (not %100 sure on this) fenders, hood, doors, front bumper. Basically a stripped interior, and any other un-needed components, for weight purposes.

I thought the bodies were very close, I think 62-63 were the same. And 64-65 were the same. Just minor differences.

Some of my favorites are 66-67 Fairlanes, and 64-65 Falcons.

  • Wouldn't the closest street version of this car be a 62-65 Fairlane?

The Thunderbolts were street legal anyway, so they could be considered street cars as well.

  • Some quick gear jammin.... like the Ronnie Sox days. I'm a Mopar fan but this T-bolt is absolutely bad ass!

  • Run rice boys....RUN!!!

  • Quickest way to make a vette soil the concrete...

  • @fraidykat chevys already do that either way

  • @bad65stang Tell me what chevy had in 64 to compete against the thunderbolts. You have to remember the makers all went into a voluntary agreement not to build race cars around '58. In '64, Ford was there and and then moved on to better business models. GM's motto is "Faster than Ford." Ford's motto is "a Mustang in every garage." Hmm, now which company needed bailouts??? Chevy had the 409, which is a piss-poor engine if there was ever one made...

  • @fraidykat no no i was saying that chevys leak oil (or as you said "soil the concrete") without the help of ford, BLUE OVAL FOR LIFE lol...ive got a 67 fairlane 500 its on my channel then my dads got a 68 cougar xr7 drag car...

  • @fraidykat haha! awesome comment! I love it!

  • i built my version of a t-bolt clone check out my page

  • What kind of Chevelle do you have? I have several clips from Kanawa, I may have it on tape. I like going up on Memorial day weekend when the High Winding Gear Jammers show up. I don't know the announcers name.

  • @Hemihart .

     That's Juni on the mic.

  • How many of these were ever made?

  • About 120.

  • cammer?

  • 427 wedge motor.

  • plz tell me that this thing has the 427 side oiler!?

  • I'm not for sure, when I went thru the pits the hood was closed.

  • @mxsailor803

    its a 427 HR engine/side oiler, He has the SS/A record at 8.78 @ 153

    and SS/B 8.97@ 148

  • @mxsailor803 Most of the Nostalgia Super Stock guys are brand/ engine style loyal. I am going to bet it's an FE.

  • @mxsailor803

stock thunderbolts came with a 427 top oiler, the side oiler was inroduced the next year in 1965

  • I wish mine did this.

  • The `bolt might have been the wildest streetlegal car ever sold to the public

  • This car is a beast.

  • Nice shifting
