I think the first major sporting event to feature the current logo was actually World Cup '86 (which might have been earlier).
Who did this original NBC Wimbledon music? Funkier and more dramatic than the re-make they used for years.

This would have started just over a month after NBC first adopted the current peacock logo (possibly the first major sports event with this version).
