  • " and if you do..that's good" i'm not sure why that's so funny

  • can you own one in canada? the garand holds 8 rounds n the rifles we have here are supposed to be 5.

  • @originalMOON3R Yes we can it's in the exceptions list

  • I love the leather sling. Also I like your technique I will try it when mine arrives from CMP . Where did you get the leather sling from

  • Nice explanation...thanks! I own a Garand and M-1 Carbine too.

  • Wow, that explains why it always looks like people are hitting the gun when they load it. Ahhh! this makes sense, but if your fast enough could you just shove the bullets in and pull your thumb out faster then the metal can slide forward?

  • @jmangonepro I'm sure you could try doing something like that... if you really are faster than the chamber action. But for your own sake i recommend just doing what tmoorej showed us all today.

  • Well done

  • thanks a lot my dads been having trouble and got stitches on his thumb because of this ill make sure to show him this video :D

  • thank you for this video it has been very helpfull ive had an m1 garand for sometime now but ive been afraid to shoot just cause i dont want my thumb jamed in there

  • @bigjoesharkfishin you are very welcome!

  • @TMoorej now you can pop those rounds off like a pro!

  • @bigjoesharkfishin that's what i'm here for!

  • @TMoorej M1 Garand+Veteran old guy=subscription.

  • @bigjoesharkfishin really? thats embarrassing.

  • Thats the way I do it......

  • Great vid, thanks for the post,

    please keep them coming.

  • I'm confused. In some videos the bolt comes forward automatically as soon as you take pressure off the clip. But in your video and others the bolt stays back until you push it forward. Does the bolt always want to come forward after the clip locks into place, and is there something you do that keeps it locked back until you push it forward? I'm new to Garands, thanks for helping with my basic question.

  • @atticus233x some Garands are worn in this area thus the bolt automatically closes when the clip is inserted different rifles vary in this area

  • @TMoorej it is suppose to stay back

  • good vid

  • @hobbesthecat7 thanks

  • Thanks friend...EXCELLENT video...!! Clear, simple, and well done.

The only thing better is your accent and your attitude...Makes me realize how stuck in Yankee Land I really am!

Once again, thanks! Keep those vids a comin'.....

  • @finalcoverage you're very welcome!

  • Thanks for posting - that's very interesting, when you've seen the movies and read about it, but never handled one!

  • @DailyBrusher you're very welcome!

  • Alabama?

  • yeah a friend of mine got the Garand Thumb..ended up needing stitches not very bad, but enough.

  • @Rubberduckyofdoomy I got one with another one I had about 20 years ago, a Springfield

  • @TMoorej

    ohhhh nice.

  • nice rifle man, have you looked up it's manufacture date?

  • @wvufanngarner 1955

  • @TMoorej 10-4 mine was made in 42, not a better rifle is there?

  • @wvufanngarner if there is, I haven't seen it

  • Good way of doing it without looking like you are trying to.

  • @reaperflynn3 thanks man!

  • thats a nice garand, dang garand thumb, did they update a newer one, so you didnt have to hold it with the side of your palm?

  • @xXMETALLICAXX619 not to my knowlege, it's easy once you get the hang of it

  • nice vid m8 :)

  • @cravendalemilk11 Thanks!

  • This helps so much i got my thumb caught in it once and it totaly blows. Ha thanks though

  • you're welcome

  • Very nice vid, now I know how to reload it without getting the "Garand Thumb" thank you.

  • you're welcome

  • Nice quick and practical video - lets hope videos like this one get stay around after comrade obama tries to censor the internet.

  • maybe he'll be busy with other things to not bother with it, not as popular as he once was either

  • You sound like bubba from forrest gump.

    Nice vid 5/5

  • i guess I should say thanks, put up a talking video so we can see who you sound like

  • I sound like a homosexual dinosaur with an insane cough.

I know that for a fact, after listening to jurrasic park and bruno.

  • I don't think that was meant as an insult.

Nice video by the way, you have a very nice collection!

  • it's okay, I'm sure he didn't

  • I don't hear it

  • like Ronnie VanZandt says, "TURN IT UP!"

  • no i know naw that my speakers cord fel out of the computer

  • well, I guess that would do it ; D

  • Good video; thanks. It's interesting how the M1 Garand was unique ( as far as I know ) in that the clip ( or " magazine " ) went into / stayed in the rifle after loading. Whereas with all the other bolt action rifles ( at the time ) the rounds ( x 5 ) were pushed down into the rifle and the clip stayed out / was returned to the ammo pouch. Regards.

  • there was one bolt action rifle that you fed the clip into the magazine and as it fired the clip worked it's way out the bottom, have to do some research to find it. I bet gungeek can name it right out of his head

  • Informative video. You sound a bit like Forest Gump.

  • you should hear my aussie voice

  • it's amazing! the people who make comments like how someone talks never speak on their videos, found one of you laughing at your dog, if that was you, but I forgive you because if you hear someone from Australia do you think they all sound like Crocodile Dundee?

  • I think you are confusing me with Arc9er. Arc9er said about the Bubba thing. I had no intention of offending you, and if I did then I'm truly sorry.

  • all that guy has for uploads is video games

  • from everything i know of, this is the best way to load an m1 garand. good video.

  • thank you very much

  • Southern people rock. Good video!

  • thanks man!

  • This is how I load the Garand. I don't know if it's the quickest or the best method, but it works for me too. Good video!

  • Good man, thanks for the comment!

  • it's Louisiana dude!

  • Oh yeah, was typing fast. sry!

  • no harm, no foul

  • I fuckin' love your accent.

  • Tight clips cause the bolt to stay open

  • I've gotten clips from everywhere, I purchased clips with ammo in them, Lord knows where those clips actually came from

  • Just insert the clip full of rounds without caring about the handle. Bolt will release but it will stop just behind the base of the first round of the clip as friction won't permit to take it out from the clip. Of course it will work if you don't oil your rounds.... but oiling rounds is always a bad idea anyway.

Then, grasp the handle , pull it back and let it go. You're ready to fire.

I think I can't be more clear than this.

  • that won't work with mine, it will strip the first round off every time and I never have oiled the rounds

  • guess u're using not so new clips then.

Anyway then you just have to remove the finger as fast as u can. Garands can be reloaded for costant fire faster than eny modern rifle with prismatic magazines. En Bloc clip for the win! take care.

  • okay, thanks!

  • Thanks for the tip, mate! I'm a WWII reenactor and M1 thumb happens a lot when you least expect it. My problem is that I have trouble pushing the clip down all the way until it "clicks" in, and like in your video, the bolt remains open with the clip still inside. You just give it a good wack forward. :D Thanks again.

  • you are very welcome, glad my info was helpful, I like that reenacting myself!

  • Thanks Mate! You saved my thumb!!

  • you're very welcome, glad to help!

  • when i first looked at the m14 i was thinking it was an M1 with a magazine.

  • right, the M14 was intended to be a Garand with a detachable magazine, and also full auto

  • yeah exactly u dont have 2 lock the bolt back

  • i'm lefted handed when i shoot and it puts me at disadvantages withmost firearms would i be able to do this garand reload?

  • you would probably just have to practice alot, just like when you shoot a right hand bolt action, I've seen lefties do that like champions

  • Could the same happen with the M14??? I mean the "Garand Thumb"...

  • it could I guess but the M14 loads completely different, I've never experienced that though, the bolt catch on the M14 is pretty rigid

  • wll I never saw any of the guns personaly but from what i saw in pictures the bolt on the m14 looks to me simylar to the one on the garand...but who am I to judge...

  • you're right, they look the same but function different, I'll try to show this in a future video

  • Can you reload a m1 garand in mid clip?

  • yes, as a matter of fact it's easier to load a clip while it's in the rifle

  • Well, thanks I learned something new. Hm mostly every says it can't be reloaded in mid clip.

  • watch the video "topping off the garand" by jeepsmorejeeps

  • No, the m14 reloads from a magazine. So there's no need to stick your finger in the loader. Hope that helped.

  • yeah...you'r right...

  • you can watch my m14 and m1 demo to get the scoup on this

  • you can also load the magazine while it's in the rifle, this would be when that could happen, but I don't think it's likely

  • "..u can try it and see if u like it, and if you do then thats good!"

    what a legend! lol

good vid :) exactly what i wanted to know in a minute. awesome

  • a left handed person should also load with his right hand, same if he was shooting a 98 mauser or similar bolt action with the bolt on the right side

  • Hey, where do you get the dummy clip? I want one of those

  • just leave out the powder & primers when you load them

  • ill try this when i get my garand

  • Very cool. This is the better way for the right handeds.

  • thanks, could be good for south paws too

  • yes

  • Yes, but I buy my cartridges

  • another alternative is to use blanks, but I had used all of mine that I had loaded, you may can buy 30-06 blanks from somewhere like sportsmansguide

  • Very informative... thank you!!

  • you're very welcome, glad to help

  • Yeah, the infamous "Garand Thumb".

She bites if you don't look after her.

  • Right! :D

  • yep, I haven't done it with this garand, but I did with my first one back around '89, it'll definately get your attention

  • yep, that's the way I do it too, if you ever get your thumb caught you'll try any means possible not to let it happen again
