I just purchased the 4x4 in the 308 and I have to say I like it. Can you do a long range shooting video with yours? I'd like to see what kind of groups it holds.
I was looking at one today at a local gun shop. It had a flutted barrell. Yours appears to be a heavy barrell. Which if any would be the best way to go. Primarily range shooting. Great video. Thanks alot.
@edgybob1 They all come with fluted barrels now, Mossberg decided to go with the lighter design a little less than 2 years ago, so unles u get one of the 1st Gen models used you'll have to go for the fluted barrel. In all honesty it doesn't make a real difference, either one will be just fine
I have some questions about this. Firstly does the bolt handle come off? Secondly is does the muzzle break come off? Thirdly I hope this isnt too hard for you but what is the thickness of the barrel. If you can answer all or any of these it will be very very helpful. Thanks :)
im considering a 4x4 mostly due to cost reasons. ive always bought used or budget guns. and ive paid the price for that at times as well. do you think the 4x4 will hold up in terms of longevity? will a used one be worth buying down the road? and do you think the new fluting and braking of all their barrels now make the gun better or worse than the originals?
@ignigknogt iis definitely a long term rifle, Mossberg has done alot to make sure this this rifle meets and even exceeds the quality of it's competetors. As for the change in barrel design, I honestly have not shot one yet to be able to say wether or not it makes much of a difference, but I wouldn't doubt the research that went into the design.
soo im trying to decide what kind of a gun im going to get i was looking at reminton 700's and 770 and my neighbor recently bought a mossburg and i was sitting around an thought i would check it out soo what size groups does this gun shoot ?
you know wat at first i liked ur review but u kinda came off to be an ass when i started bad mouthin the atr granted iv only put 26 rounds through mine i rly like it it a good solid gun not only that iv talked to some people who own them and have no problem with them besides there blueing witch is durible at all but all in all in my eyes there just as good if not better then lets say a remington 700 or the 4x4 and just so there no bs comments about it no i dont think im a know it all
@hopecamel I'm not putting down the ATR as a shitty rifle, just as a rifle that wasn't worth as much as Mossberg was charging for them & at that price any problems people were experiencing with the rifles were unexpected and advertised, it was simply a matter of mossberg taking a perfectly good entry level rifle, taking over the manufacture precess, not doing as good a job as the original company & charging more for it ...... all those things together add up to getting a bad reputation.
Great review. But you should have mentioned the guns that are better new in this price range. I've been looking and I haven't found anything new (= not used) in this price category.
@ss19800 As recently as around last November I saw these selling at gunshows for around $400 to $450, I paid about $420 tax and all for mine about a year and a half ago and haven't seen the prices go up yet, but they may have in the last couple months.
@vinsanity5150 It's just an older Harris Spring loaded Bi-pod. If u know where the sling attachment is at the front of the stock on the under side, thats where u attach the bi-pod.
@redneckhunt4 I personally think it would make a great rifle, the 4x4 is a great gun and .338 win mag is a good caliber, the only down side I can see it the cost of .338 compared to 30.06, .308 or .270 since .338 win mag usually runs more than $50 bucks a box of 20, which makes it an expensive rifle to shoot.
@neverenuffammo can you tell me have to had any problems with your mossberg?? I have one of there shotguns and never have had any problems and that's why I'm looking into there rifles.. I've seen some people knocking the stocks saying they break easy. Can you post on here your reply to my question thanks
@harrisonrg777 I've never had any issue with this rifle, I've heard some horror stories about their ATR series of rifles, but those are mostly just people reacting to the fact that they were/are over priced enty level rifles. The 4x4 series is fantastic and a great buy.
Not knocking him but he was wrong about one thing there is a 4x4 with sights 26410, 26430 and 26460 there on mossburgs website.. I'm stoked I'm getting the 27548 witch is the all black 30-06 I've had a few guns in my life but this is my first rifle I'm a big fan of snipers and really want to get into it .. So as soon as I get my money I'll be set :-D
@harrisonrg777 Thanks for the heads up, When I bought mine they only had a few models, I know that mossberg has expanded the line quite a bit because its gained alot of popularity, glad that they have models with sights now!
As for the mention calibers, Mossberg 4x4 does not come in .300 Win Mag. They will ship you a .300 WSM BIG Difference if you have .300 Win Mag ammo. I have contacted Moss 12/10/2010 with no response. If you want to buy 2 diff type ammo, buy the .300 as they call it, then pick up a few boxes of .300 WSM if you want to shoot it
@cassey3821 That's very interesting, the shop I bought the 30.06 from the owner told specifically they offered it in 300 Win Mag, guess he was off. Thanks for the heads up bro!
@cassey3821 i have 300 win mag laminate marine coat muzzel break and the lba trigger system im in canada i got it fro cabelas canada. cabelas.ca go there youll see its listed to order but if your in the us you wont be able to order from canada but you can definatly get 300 win mag i have it.
This particular sock does not have a regular stud for swivel sling attachment. Can you attach a usual bipod to this directly or do you need to adapt anything? Thanks for your help.
@TheFrss That depends on the bi-pod, some come with universal adapters, and some only come with the standard clamp type attachment. If it doesn't have the swivel stud (not sure what the newr models have) but it does have the small wedge shaped non-swivel stud with the hole in it, coming off the stock then the standard clamp style will still work fine.
hey man i wanted to ask you about a couple of things on that rifle, on the 300 mag with that recoil pad on it does it have as much recoil as its competitors like remington, savage, etc. also does the fluted barrel reduce accuracy and knock down power of the rifle.
@memphiskicksass As far as the fluted barrel, it won't affect accuracy or power in the rifle one way or the other. As for the 300 win mag version, I'm nt sure because I haven't shot it, but when comparing the 30.06 and 273 versions of the rifle to their remington or savage counterparts, the recoil pad does make a difference.
@overkill2020 That's really cool that your dad works there. I'd love to get one, I have a Maverick 88, it's my favorite shotgun, I love the maverick stuff.
@overkill2020 I don't have one & in fact I haven't even ever gotten my hands on one (although I'd love to) I do know that it's produced in Eagle Pass, Tx along side the Maverick 88 which is the Maverick version of the Mossberg 500, the Maverick 308 is the Maverick version of the Mossberg ATR in .308, basically they are a sub-company of mossberg, but they use some different parts & manufactured at a different plant to reduce cost but are otherwise identical to their Mossberg counterparts.
@bailalexownsall I'll be the first to admit I'm no expert when it comes to scopes, but there are a few that u might want to check out ..... first off I know the price seems good but I'd stay away from NcStar, some good names that have scopes in the $100 range are, Leapers, BSA, Simmons, Barska, Bushnell & Konus. They all make good scopes in that price range, just check 'em out and find one that works 4 u & the rifle, I suggest getting one in a store so u can see how it'll work, don't buy online.
@coocoo4cocablunt I don't remember the name of the attachment type, but it the kind where u have a small clamp wit 2 prongs, 1 on each side, u place it loosely over the sling/bi-pod mount on the rifle & screw it, and as u do that it tightens the clamp onto the sling/bipod mount on the gun and the prongs line up in the mount holes.
@Tex90mc As far as I know it doesn't come setup for lefties, there is always a chance I guess, but it's really going to depend on how much feedback they get from people requesting it.
i like the ATR better then the 4x4. and the new 100ATR's come with an adjustable trigger and a fluted barrel. although i will admit i was looking at the t/c venture....one thing i really liked about that gun is it has a 60 degree bend on the bolt handle for maxium scope clearance
@CallMeDoug87 ATR's are a good solid rifle, and I got nothing against them, the 4x4 were made as a step up from the ATR because of the feedback they got from the ATR, but they have since upgraded tha ATR series as well. The only problem they ever had with the ATR was trying to sell it for what they were, when the first company who made them sold them for almost half that. But I like ATR's too, if I had a choice I'd probab;y go with the 4x4 but that just personal preferance.
You mentioned in your video that the blued finish was not as durable as the Marine finish. What do you specifically mean? Is it just a lot more upkeep or will the barrel itself wear out much faster? I'm looking at the 4x4 in the walnut classic stock in 30-06 and I have only found it in blued finish. Just wondering if I should consider a different stock or if it will be just fine with a bit more TLC.
@jmcdaniel7484 Mossberg's blued finish on their rifles or their shotguns tends 2 be considerably less durable than their marinecoat finish & generally only slightly less durable than other manufacturer's blued finishes if it taken care of then there is no need 2 worry, I personally perfer blued/blacked finishes over the stainless/marinecoat/"silver" finish anyway so if it's what u like I'd go for it, but if u want something a little more durable & aren't as concerned w/ looks go 4 the marinecoat
I just recently bought a Mossberg 4x4 and was wondering what I should do in regards to attaching a bipod to the rifle. I am new to guns and learning about them more and more and was wondering what you would suggest.
@unondite The front of the rifle stock on the underside has a swivel sling/bi-pod attachment point, it should be pretty easy to attach a bi-pod to it. As far as what type of bi-pod to use, it up to u, they're all pretty good, I would suggest getting a spring loaded one, just because its less likely for the bi-pod legs to fall down when u don't want them to.
@guns3006270 I'm not sure the brand of the bipod, I got it when I bought my SKS, someone had stuck on that rifle, I took it off, cleaned it up and put it on the 4x4 where I knew I might use it, but its just a standard springloaded bi-pod
I had an ATR, and it wasn't bad. I paid 250 at Walmart. Like you said it's a beginners gun. I just got a 4x4 in 338 with the fluted/ported barrel and I do not regret giving Mossberg another chance. The trigger is impressive for a $400 gun. I would buy another one. Great review.
@Duwulf Thanks bro, I love the 4x4, it was a good move for Mossberg, and just like u said there was nothing wrong with the ATR, it was a great gun for what it was, it just shouldn't have been sold for the price it was, or marketed as a higher end gun. Thanks 4 watchin bro!!
@tim12161974 I like 'em too, their shotguns are great, and thhat marinecoat is a tuff durable finish, they just made some mistakes with their ATR rifles, should never have been priced, and marketed like they were, really turned alot of people off of mossberg rifles.
I just purchased the 4x4 in the 308 and I have to say I like it. Can you do a long range shooting video with yours? I'd like to see what kind of groups it holds.

@unondite The front of the rifle stock on the underside has a swivel sling/bi-pod attachment point, it should be pretty easy to attach a bi-pod to it.
