I can say easily that it is a stolen idea. I am sure that designer was aware of this concept and have seen in internet an example of it and created own design.
There are many quacks stoling other's ideas and presenting as if their own idea.
@MarcusVel13 if it can fly with just the disc and only need the rotors for lifting this would make the airspace needed for the heli significaly reduced. Which would be useful in tight spaces etc. Though i don't know if the disc have the power itself to keep the heli up in the air, only then it would be useful, but as i said i don't know im no engineer.
@ayGoGaming it would not be able to fly using the disc, most likely it (the computer model) would have an engine, and just use the disc/rotorblades for takeoff, landing, and hovering. This will never be produced though, since the whole assembly just adds a huge amount of unnecessary weight, and in cruise increases the drag significantly. For what it gets, the tradeoff (cons) are not worth it. With that being said however, a small model for fun is possible, just not practical.
@RentedSpot well maybe, if the disk is shaped like 1 large aerofoil. it wouldn't be as efficient as a plane, granted, but provided that "disk" is shaped more like a wings aerofoil, it would still generate lift, provided there is enough verticles speed. think about the f-104 starfighter. the size of the wing was tiny, but it produced enough lift at high enough speeds. i dont think however, the helicopter in any of its variants will ever superceed the plane in speed, range or passenger capacity.
@abhiginimav the f-104 starfighter is pretty much just a rocket with wings. The "wings" are basically just for stability, and cannot really be compared to a conventional aircraft. If the engine quit on the f-104, it is dropping like a brick out of the sky, theres no gliding as you can do with a conventional aircraft. Now for this aircraft, the disk assembly, even if it was shaped as an airfoil, would be extremely heavy to contain the mechanism to extend and retract rotorblades.
@RentedSpot yeah i realise that. if the rotors arent any good in cruise, its dead weight. and yeah, i know the wings on the 104 are stability. this is why i dont think helos will ever overtake aircraft. the closest we are gonna get is tilt rotor, but the wings are too stuby for the same efficiency
@nana101ify with angle of attack and thrust you dont need an aerofoil - the disc's attitude to airflow will create the high/low pressures required for lift. slits in the disk will destroy the surface pressure reducing lift, quite the opposite.
a flat sheet of foam can fly so yes, its completely possible, although why one would waste their time i dont know, the harrier does it with much more class :)
@EdTheBadass Because of its speed on the inside, the inner part of a helicopter disc does very little work. They think if they retract the blades, it can use the disc like a wing and go faster.
Guess again, V-22 is considered a "Powered Lift" aircraft. It is neither an Airplane nor a Rotorcraft.
On top of that, the highest lift capacity of any helicopter in the world is 44,000lbs/~20,000kg (Mi-26). The CH-53 doesn't even come close to that at 30,000lbs. Off the top of my head I can name 4 airplanes with lift capacities ranging from 170,000 to over 500,000lbs. You might as well give up, I will always be able to refute your arguments ;)
my dad invented this many years ago but the disk was the fuel tank and there would be jet engines on the tips of the rotor blades so there would be no moving parts the fuel would be sucked out by centrifugal force into a ramjet engine
Helicopters have a limited top speed to do with tips of the rotor blades hitting the speed of sound. The helicopter speed record is "only" 401 km/h made by British Westland Lynx helicopter. This video is probably made to point out the possibility to turn a helicopter into an airplane mid-flight. The rotor blades are folded away and after that the disc is supposed to act as a wing.
helicopters are limited in speed because of the difference in air speed over the blades as they go around the rotor, as the vehicle moves forward. Go fast enough and it would be impossible to keep it from rolling. That's one reason these ideas remain popular (the benefits of both).
I wonder if its not possible to have a wide fuselage with rotors inside which may be covered or oncovered through sliding panels when the speed increases... and still have wings and jets and so on...
I like the concept. Could it be used with scimitar-shaped blades as well? These might swivel out from the rotor disk, rather than having rotors that linearly thrust out as shown in the video.
I'm very veery confused but not by the video, but at how many fucking retards there are out there, why is this funny, they are not saying that it exsists or that its a ufo or anything just a post of a rotary craft consept, do any of you have a clue???? Thee are hundreds of consepts fo cars planes and other craft/vehicles every year all over the world, what could posibly be funny about this video, GROW UP!!!!
I just think that the old version might be better... If you noticed, the new propeller thing was curved at the bottom... It wouldn't get as much lift with a curved bottom like that. It wouldn't go as far but it would use much more gas. That is why this is impractical.
I don't think it would be trying to replace the roll of VTOL airplanes, but more of the traditional helicopter that needs faster cruising. But who knows, maybe they might be a viable and better alternative to a Harrier, if the idea works at all. Only time will tell.
What about flapping-lead lag hinges? What about gyroscopic precession? It seems to me you need to do some research before you post masturbatory videos on youtube!

just add telescopic rotor blade
it will be efficient during frontward flight
and also colapse the small rotor blades after the size is decreased it might help getting some lift if mounted the proper way

A great way to prevent this plane from being built is if some schmuck patents it, and then just sits on it doing practically nothing with it.
Segway kind of did that too. I've never seen one of those in real life.
