  • I am very happy to see the vidoe after you give this A typical day in the life of a Computer Software Engineer Courtesy of CareerOneStop.

  • I Really Like The Video From Your A typical day in the life of a Computer Software Engineer.

  • Your Video Is Very Useful Sharing A typical day in the life of a Computer Software Engineer

  • after i watched this video, my insight is very open because the video is very good to give information A typical day in the life of a Computer Software Engineer Courtesy of CareerOneStop.

  • uhhh should i become this

  • Awww man

  • shity computers hahahahahahaha

  • "Software is to computers what programming is to television?!" Talk about bad metaphors! And why do we need someone to explain to us what software is on YouTube?! Isn't that kind of like telling people what an engine is at a gas station?

  • yeah,.. not my type of job i was thinking that it would be like. =(

  • * asp sorry crappy iPod spellcheck

  • @4cidhacks Really?? The file extension on the right was aap and I didn't know HTML had an if statement?

  • Wow that looks pretty hard.

  • the guy in the blue shirt is writing html LOL :P still fun though

  • @4cidhacks javascript was what he was writing in.

  • I hate this thing's voice

  • -_- i hate math

  • @imaury2010 I love math. You will not get anywhere or live with out it.

  • 10 ИСТ

  • hi, software engineering is nice, but i like mechanical more

  • "what makes the box come to life" ahahahahahhaa!

  • Thumbs up for the cr*p CRT monitors and the 90s theme of this video..

  • 0:27 what language is that, looks like javascript/java/C++ mixed with html..

  • @monckey100 Maybe JS itself. Or just a dude pretending to write code :D

  • @monckey100 its classic ASP

  • @nateso95 oh I see, gotta study that one.

  • @monckey100 PHP i think

  • @monckey100 it is indeed javascript.

  • They fail to mention that often all you really need is middle school algebra, unless you are doing something particularly mathy to began with like simulating nuclear explosions.

  • @itachisxeyes

Discrete math can be a big help for many engineers (with logic, algorithms, big O notation).

More advanced math is always a nice plus as it opens up other carreer paths (needed for anything simulating movement as well as for some work in graphics, and I'm probably missing a lot).

  • @itachisxeyes well if your doing game simulation and 3d graphics you are going to need calculus and differential equations. if your making anti-virus software your going to need discrete math and calculus. if your doing any media type application software then your going to need calculus. if your developing business applications then all you need is a little discrete math and algebra.

  • Im going to college for Accounting then joining the Navy

  • @123nypd

I think you have it backwards. You should go to the Navy first so that they will pay for your education and living expenses. If you want to go for an Accounting degree right after high school, you are probably much better finishing college, and then getting a job in your field. Accountants make pretty good money, so you really don't need to go to or get a job in the Navy after college. I think Accountant is actually a pretty easy major...

  • @HmongEngineer thanks for advice man; :)

  • @123nypd

NP; glad I can help somebody.

  • DAMN!!!!! I always forget something important in algebra

  • @lildevon3 Dont worry. These days Google can teach a toddler E = mc^2

  • Can someone tell me if a computer software engineer needs to be good in math.

  • @ventures58

Yes, you do depending on which field you want to pursue after graduation. The main thing is having good algebraic skills as you will always need that (I assume everybody is good with this by default). For higher level math, we just use calculators. Not many people remember much high level mathematics after working in the field for a few years, but that's why we have computers to do it for us.

  • AHAHHAHAAHAHAH COMPUTER SOFTWARE ENGINEER.

    >PERL

  • i want that cool mouse

  • hmmm, it sounds like the computer programmers programmed the lady talking in this video too...

  • the ending reminds me about the time i had to take a bullshit communications course at school. on the final day a news crew interviewed us and everyone else was like "i really learned a lot about communication skills and effective communication" then they interview me and i say "i thought the whole class was bullshit". needless to say, they didn't air my interview. LOL

  • GOTTAM

  • 0:26

Its been yrs since i've seen a old model dell

  • I need to get better at maths, I'll have to try harder!

  • I wonder if these computers are driven by a steam engine :D

  • Is this crucial to learning how to develop games as well?

  • @ApollosInsight

    Of course!

  • @dave2041 I agree. I read articles that state that one may not have to know calculus as much as other programmers would, but a good grasp of geometry and trigonometry can go a long way for a game programmer. Games are essentially based off of physics, so it wouldn't hurt to learn these disciplines and more.

  • @Ringoshiiro computer graphics and simulation indeed rely on a lot of calculus because of the analysis you have to do and the calculations. they teach this capstone course in Computer Science.

  • @emanpiano10 Yeah, that does make sense. Simulation also sounds statistically related as well, depending upon the situation. I never knew that calculus was so important in computer science. I always thought that a strong background in discrete mathematics, set-oriented mathematics and possibly logic would yield very competent programmer. Thanks for telling me.

  • @Ringoshiiro Your welcome :)

yes also calculus based physic's is used a lot. For scientific computing your are going to need pretty much every thing as an engineer for theorem and scientific research type of stuff. far as research you need a phd to practice research as a "Computer Scientist".

  • This is going to be a challange for me. I have a hard time understanding math. And this is the career I want to pursue? Maybe I should stick to FX Makeup artist..

  • I have the same Star Wars mouse pad as the guy at 0:18

    O_O

  • @tundra010 It means you are a software engineer too :-)

  • thats pretty boo

  • is it me, or are some of these programs and devises obselete?

  • pascal ftw

  • by the way, software engineers and computer software engineers is the same thing, right? i don't wanna sound dumb or anything, but i wanna know if there is even the slightest difference between the two.

    anyone know? thanks in advance!

  • @OyonTheAdept {software engineers and computer software engineers is the same thing, right?}

You could argue that embedded programmers fall more in the software eng. category.

  • @mindprism i see. thanks!

  • @mindprism I would say embedded programmers fall in the category of Computer Engineers because they are developing programs for "Hardware" and not software. Embedded systems, hardware\software design is in the computer engineering curriculum. they teach you how to develop programs for Microcontrollor chips and Microprocessors in C/C++ and VHDL.

  • hm.... i'm at a sort of gap here. I figured i was gonna become an electrical engineer but then today, i changed my mind lol. i guess i'll become a computer software engineer instead! ^^

wires and circuits and stuff sound cool and complex. but i wanna make programs and go into the details of them that encompass ALL computers. hehe, in a way, computer software engineers are god-like since they make commands for computers lol

computer software engineering for the win!

  • @OyonTheAdept did you know you can get the best of both worlds if you do Computer Engineering? Computer Engineering is both Electrical Engineering and Computer Science all in one.

  • ok ,math is where you lost me i guess new major for college now

  • Can you say Microsoft Samantha?

  • Ho this all bull... 2 b a successful s/w engg all u hve do is know how 2 use google effectively(85% + 10% politics + 5% analytical skills)... =P

  • What kind of math? What percent of it is math?

  • im starting college for computer engineering and i cant wait

  • This video is old, you can see that not only by looking at old computers and crt screens, but by observing span tags all ove the place in his code, when the camera glances it over.

  • So to become a Software Engineer go to college for computer science? Should you already know all the things like Java or c++ before that?

  • @feelgoodside Hey, I' heading to college this fall. I'm majoring in Computer Engineering. Software Eng. has very similar classes, but Comp. Eng. has a more broad area (so I have been told anyway :P)

I've taken a little bit of Java in High School just for fun, but where I'm headed, there is no need for knowing it, they teach it to you.

Comp Science is totally different from Software Eng. Comp Science creates new things, Engineers utilize how to use them and create cool stuff.

    Hope I helped! :)

  • @ClinchMovie

So what's the major difference between computer and software engineers?

  • @Zodiac11111 Computer Engineers mainly focus's on Hardware design while Software Engineers focus's on Software Design. but most of the software that computer engineering develop is for low level microcontrollor and embedded system software but they can create high level application software as well but mostly focus's on hardware design related to computers.

  • @ClinchMovie Computer Science and Software Engineering are very similar but Computer Science study's the theory behind the computer. you study algorithms and learn how to create your own algorithms. Software Engineering focuses on mainly software development and use's the the principal of engineering to apply it to creating software. you take almost all the computer science class with an engineering curriculum. both degrees covers software engineering topics.

  • Petroleum Engineering owns this HAHAHAHA just 1 more year.

  • well...say goodbye to this job because math to me is annoying.

  • @Ngelcanfly why did you choose that path in the first place if you did not like math. Like why bother?

  • im having a hard time deciding whether to major in math or software engineering. fyi im not a big fan of math, although i dont mind it, it's just calculus that sucks.

  • @MykesterMachinima A math degree with focus on a large amount of Calc. If your not sure check out what units each degree entails

  • @MykesterMachinima looks like none of those majors is not for you because you really have to love math to be successful. Physics, Chemistry, Engineering, Biology, Mathematics, Medicine, Computer Science all require "Calculus". if you can't get far then I would change your major to something else other than the ones i listed. if you are struggling get some help. ask for tutoring. if noting helps change your major.

  • how much do they get paid a month?

  • @piratesonline1 avg salary is 50 bucks an hour for a software engineer. 25 or 30 an hour is not unreasonable for someone starting out

  • if you're interested in computer science, please take a look at my website at binaryvalue (dot) com

  • Speaking of computers, the woman's voice sounds computer generated

  • How do I turn my computer into a time machine?

  • I love the guy's face when she says that they are full of excitment.

  • software engineers also never smile

  • I hate working on a joint-project. Re-familiarizing yourself with code somebody else changed over and over and over makes my head want to explode.

  • Can you help me start a software engenering interview for my project in school wich is due really soon?

  • Is computer soft. engineering the same as computer programming?

  • @air3nt Not really. Long before the term "software engineer" emerged, programmers designed (or engineered) the project and then programmed it. Now the two tasks are often split-up. A programmer nowadays typically programs based on specifications from the software engineer. However, usually it is the software engineer who performs both tasks.

  • do you need to know physics to be a software engineer? what do you need to know?

  • @monster98012 yeah you do need to learn some physics, also math, but that's pretty much all of the "scary" that you might find, after that is all focused on software and computers.

by the way physics and math ROCK!!! LOL.

  • i am currently in this class last period and i hate it, way too hard for me, i need help, and i don't like the teacher...i suck at math:(

  • I think everyone can do good in math if they set their mind to do so. Math doesn't suck, but there are sucky math teachers, avoid them.

  • @zombiecrowtv math when you put it all together its so easy... its true the key is finding the right math teacher, i have a class with 60 kids and its a highschool. teachers that good :o

  • @zombiecrowtv

    WOW!

It's good to hear ... uh, read, someone say it, "OUT LOUD"

    THANK YOU zombiecrowtv .

The technically gifted is not usually the best teachers and the best teachers are not always the best students.

  • @zombiecrowtv u are so right I go to MIT and there are couple of teachers who should be fired for not even trying to teach a math course in normal standards

  • @zombiecrowtv true

  • @zombiecrowtv yeah but in college you teach yourself

  • @zombiecrowtv i couldn't agree more (that there are sucky math teachers).

  • @zombiecrowtv Well said!

  • @zombiecrowtv Kinda hard when you live in florida.:P

  • @zombiecrowtv AHAHAHAH any1 can do math, ORLY? Go try on some masters level geometry, then if you don't go on shooting rampage killing about a dozen people before pulling a trigger on yourself all because of 10 dimensions planes concept, then and only then say that math is easy.

  • @zombiecrowtv

Yer like all the english ones lol.

  • @zombiecrowtv I think the best thing to do is learn how to learn on your own. Then you avoid math teachers all together. As far as college goes, if you can learn the material on your own the teacher is only there to report your grades to the people who give you your piece of paper (degree) at the end.

  • @zombiecrowtv U R SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO TRUE

  • @zombiecrowtv Everyone can not do good at math. I feel very comfortable around numbers others do not,

  • @upinflamezzz i love math. i can do math all day and not be bored. its is why i'm going to school for computer science & electrical engineering.

  • Damn, too bad my math skills suck :_(

  • @NJN0000 should of paid more attention to your math classes in high school:) most people slack of because they find math to be boring. But you will regret that if your trying to be an engineer.

  • I began to study software engineering since this last semester and i liked it a lot. I have to say this discipline is an oportunity for growing economies to get a piece of the cake becouse the lowering produce costs in India and here in Mexico. I hope everyone would have chance to participate equally.

  • they say u need high math...this like anything requires drive to succeed they math used in this is not the math used in school

  • As a computer engineering student, I second what you said, if interpreted correctly. I use advanced mathematics to be able to program certain math functions. I program in C, C++, JAVA and I'm still in the beginning of learning ProLog, used in robotics. The math used is the same kind of mathematics used in any field of engineering. I had a project to do, that was called a Matrix Calculator. I had to program matrices and all other kind of formulas that exist in maths. And yes, this requires work.

  • C'mon! Have they not made a programming video since the fucking 90s???

  • @justicedude97

haha, I was thinking the same thing!!!

  • @justicedude97 true

  • @justicedude97 holy frigolis....how old is this Video?

  • @justicedude97 tell me about it.

  • ...and what exactly may I ask is wrong abt moving to India if you get a good job there?

  • I never said there was anything wrong with moving to India. I have nothing against India and the people that live there. I'm just stating that if you want to have a great software related job in the United States, you might as well forget about it and move to where those jobs are going. Of course not ALL jobs are moving, but many large businesses are moving their information technology related jobs overseas, mostly to India.

  • How much money does computer science people who have 3 years of experience make generally? And if so is that alot?

  • my friend gets paid 150k a year so thats about 400 a day so yes they do get overpaid

  • I don't know about overpaid.

Doing stuff like this requires a good work out with your brain. That is reason enough for getting 400 a day imo.

  • @yasuodances No joke. Anyone that says that programmers are overpaid doesn't write code... how many programmers have to go bald writing login screens before we're looked at as a downtrodden group being pwned on a daily basis by those who pass their constant crazy demands on to us? =./

    if (newProgrammerSympathy > oldProgrammerSympathy) myThanks++

(yeah I realize that those first two variables are the world's longest ^.^)

  • @sami0015ROCKS overpaid? lol we are in need of computer engineers. they are a demand the higher the demand the higher they get paid.

  • im doing this shit...im in high school now:D

3th class...im not sure how to say in english

    im doing electrician atm:D

  • It's 3rd (pronounced as: third) What grade are you in? Which language are you learning?

  • heil to the software engineers!

  • lol you dont have to be good at math to be a good programmer. i failed algrebra 3 times and i turned out good.

  • Maths :[

  • rofl this video is a joke, did any one else notice the first scene of code is some one putting in css ? lol. Uber programmer right there.

  • Yes you damn right xD ! Nice one Dude !

  • Lol im glad you caught that

  • Holy shit,im going to school for this, and my math really really sucks bad,I may be in for a huge disapointment

  • If your in High School don't be Disappointed. But if you in college and sucking. your fucked. but if your high school. no worries. Go to college and tell them your going for this Major and i wanna know what i need. but be prepare. your going to get tons of math.

  • shit....

  • shit....what about "Web Applications?" is there any hope for me there? I love computers

  • It's Depending what college you go to. But don't worry; Whatever college you go to there going to help you out with everything.you need to know.Just study hard and pay attention.

  • Thanx Jesus I luv computers,Application,Java and anything todo with the web. It would really suck to see my dreams washed away

  • it's not really that hard, in fact it's kind of fun writing programs to solve real world problems

  • I know thats why I love it so much!

  • take remedial courses when youre in college (take them at a community college if they transfer).

any engineering path will require you take calculus 1-2/3 along with its physics, and most even require chemistry.

brush up on your trig & functions. once you understand that, you should be prepared to take a calc course. ;)

  • Being bad at Math doesn't mean you're naturally bad at Math. One big problem is that there aren't many good Math teachers. Here in Australia, we have Math teachers who cannot do the Math they teach themselves (and many teachers teaching English who don't have a good grasp of English themselves!)

Try to wangle a class with a good Math teacher; just don't blame yourself for being bad at Math. If you're good with computers, it seems you can handle logic quite well--and that's all Math is; logic.

  • Thanx,I'll try to keep a more positive attitude about it. I'm just afraid of it stoping my goal. Also I talked to my consoler at my college. I'm gonna go in for Web Design instead.

  • exaclty, because some of us need to visualize

  • i think this is one of the hardest and most tedious jobs out their. One line of code is wrong and you have to go through the whole thing again.

  • It actualy is not that bad. I enjoy it. I have 7 weeks left for my BS in computer information systems (programming, engineering, analysis, and so on). I enjoy it a lot. My sugestion is thou, try out programming before you decide to major in it. A lot of people get frustrated and change majors because they think it is hard. I think it is easy but that is because I have the mind set for it. I would not be able to do somthing such as buisness thou to boring.

  • how much do you make being a computer engineer?

  • they make 80k-100k a year

  • thats not true...it dipends upon your experience, not all makin this kind of money in the software industry,

  • My gf is taking masteral degree and doct. do you think she might be making atleast that kind of salary like what he posted 80K or 100K?

  • depends where she lives and her skills also negotiation skills.

  • @arsehole420 don't forget that is years of experience that adds on to make your salary that high. engineers don't make 80-100k coming strait out of college. it takes 5-10+ years to get to 100 grand:) the more experience the higher your salary is its a "Fact".

  • IT DIPENDS UPON YOUR experience, and what position are u in..

  • no your worng..is it not the most tedious job, there are more tedious once, like pilot and plane designer engr.pilot first of all they risk theier lives, and most esp they should be verry good in math and physics as well, and plane designer engr, one line code they re do it all over again, they should be verry careful,as they been payed good, really good, way better than software engineers...

  • Actually Stand-By bring you to the log-in screen.

Get your facts straight b4 you come in here all i'm a microsoft god.

    Moron.

  • 0:05

    Lol fast bootup.

  • standby you ass

  • It really is like this I'm currently taking a course on Java and a bunch of other programming languages -- Pretty hard.

  • The girl talking is a program in the computer lol

  • this is some hard shit

  • This video is old, is it really like that?

  • of course it is you dick splash

  • oompa loompas

  • What DOES make the box come to life?

  • The spit of a leprechaun after gargling skittles juice.
