  • Isnt this so beautiful! As a harmonica player I can say that this is pure joy.I am fortunate enough to have met someone who knew this was here.I have been playing harmonica for 40 years.Im 50 now.

  • Fred Hersch understands Toots music. No better tribute could be.

    heseck

  • so nice !

  • I can't hear it clearly....Anyway I like it very much.... Great!!!

  • Brel + Toots = proud to be Belgian!

Fantastisch, kippenvel elke keer <3

  • damn this guy is real good was past away after this song for a few secs thx thx thx for sharing this with us

i'm half belgium myself so it's even more how do you say ... nice :P

  • 88 years old and still making heavenly music... surely one of the greatests of all time.

  • God dont let him die...

  • I have never heard a harmonica played like that. This was truly divine!

  • Toots !

    Saxophone - Jay Beckenstein

    Piano, Organ - Richard Tee

    Guitar - Steve Love

    Slide Guitar - John Tropea

    Bass - Marcus Miller

    Drums - Steve Gadd

    Percussion - Gerardo Velez

    Harmonica - Toots Thielman

    Guitar Solo - Chet Catallo

  • Toots is good but also Brel

  • Toots Thielemans, Jacques Brel, que de grands Belges

  • kist

One of the greatest belges playing a song from one of the other great belges and leaving the pain that comes from this song intact is unbelievable. I was gone for a few seconds when i first heared it

  • nice version! but wrong translation ;) its not "if you go away" its "dont leave me"

  • @jazzbest68 "ne me quitte pas" doesnt mean "if you go away" this is totally wrong ... it means "dont leave me"

therefor this song has other deepth than in english -it is better to translate the song for yourself ;) I know there are english versions they called "if you go away" but it is a wrong translation ;)

  • Dear 14monaros14, of course "ne me quitte pas" doesn't mean "if you go away" but it's under this tittle that the song is known in the englisch world like "Les Feuilles Mortes" is known as "Autumn Leaves" and not as "Dead Leaves"

  • @14monaros14 Shades of blue are still blue ;-)

  • @14monaros14 I think you have to realize the cadence of the song...the words 'ne-me-qui-tte-pas' fit the phrasing of the tune. 'Don't leave me' or even Do-not-lea-ve-me' doesn't work. So the English version was adapted/changed to 'If you go away' and rewritten to fit the tune and basically an entire new song created to suit the 'feeling' of the song and tune. It's been done before when an exact translation simply wouldn't sound 'right'. I'm assuming (hoping) Jacques Brel gave his approval?

  • In Memory of Nina Simone!

  • In Memory of Jacques Brel

  • i need this song's harmonica tabs

  • @bursk89 I believe Toots plays a 14 hole instrument. I only have a 12 hole in front of me. On a 12 his first note is 4 draw. 4-4-(slide in 4-)4-4-; 4-4-(slide in4-)4-4-;3-3-4-3-3-;3-3-4-3-3-, you should be able to figure out most of the rest of it from that...(it's how I just did). :) Just sit here with your instrument and keep replaying the video...play along with him. Let your ears tell you where the notes are. It's a great ear-training exercise.

  • It's very nice!!!

  • inattendue et toujours belle

  • Trop belle...

  • niiiiiiice

  • Wonderfull !!

Thanks for sharing with us .

    Steph.
