The pony motor is the way to go, especially in cold weather! Coolant is shared between the pony and the big diesel so you can leave the pony running a while and warm the diesel.
Also the pony exhaust is run through a heat exchanger in the intake of the diesel allowing you to preheat the incoming air. You can also crank the big diesel to your hearts content with the pony.
Can't do any of that with the electric start tractors.

The whole pony-start thing was weak from its inception. John Deere should have fired the designers of this model and all that used the same concept.

at least you didn't need all the big batteries, btw it starts ten times better than a 560 IH or so
