hmmm...how do i know which pins on the transformer are 12345?....ive pulled one apart and removed all parts from the camera pcb...just need to wire em up.... :( i can't seem to find a video which 'completely ' shows everything on how to complete this :(
Brilliant ! i did the same as you by using a larger resistor, but my 11W low energy bulb flashes & will not light up, would you have any idea why please?
whats awesome about this is you can go to CVS and ask them for their used cameras, take them home and make the most crazy things with them. This is a valuable resource!
Thank you Lidmotor for teaching us and Chiliqueen and you know everyone else that is helping.
CosmicGnarler---CVS is where I got the camera also. Just go up and ask them to look in the trash and there is usually one there. This is a great way to recycle these disposable cameras. Now I can get FREE parts! You get a free AA or AAA alkaline in it as a bonus.
thanks heaps for posting this one. i too have been ruining components trying to pull them off these curcuit bords from cameras. i have three different sorst of cameras, and three different curcuit boards. and there is very little on the internet showing how to use these curcuits. the hardest thing is the trigger transformers used in the pie tin simple sec stuff, ive wrecked three at least, very frustrating.... but what a great source for our sort of components indeed.
harpblocke----Thanks. I have wrecked a few of those trigger transformers also. I watched a some videos on how to desolder before I started this project. I learned a new skill---had to.
Can---This project was all about learning how to desolder components off a board. I bought the desoldering iron (with the squeeze bulb) from Radio Shack and it worked great. As far as power usage on this circuit goes, it isn't all that great. It pulled 350 mA at 1.5 volts to make those bulbs light up that way but efficiency wasn't the goal here.
what value cap?....also where do you wire the bulb to?....hmmm...cheers man!..

Great job! I'm sure it's a great feeling to be able to learn about electronics and at the same time be able to save the planet by recycling.

the flicker bulb is super kool
great demo
i got a kodak transformer that outputs 327 volts and pulls 106 ma's
thanks lidmotor

Kooler---Those 'flicker flame' bulbs work really good on the SEC exciters also.

You've inspired me to open up my eletronics tacklebox and get to work! Thanks for all the great videos

Ive been looking at de soldering tools for the last week...LOL... Ironic!
Very cool... Do you have any idea how much wattage you are drawig compared to conventional lighting of said bulb?
