i can not believe I have to introduce Morphine to everyone first-hand, musicians included. Is the whole world fucking def ?
I still get tears in my eyes every time I listen to this album, the fact that Mark passed away before the release of his masterpiece, as if his mission in this life had been completed, and the fact that he died on stage was of poetic beauty, a wish that God hasn't granted to many musicians. Ask any musician if they would like to die on stage? everyone I asked said yes
"The Night" was the album from witch i got to met Morphine. By the 1st and the 2nd time i heard it i didn't really gave it a lot of atention, but by the 3rd time i was tottaly addicted to it! for something like the following 6 months all i listened to, 2, 3 or even 4 times a day was "The Night". All the other music that i would try to listen just didn't sound as good as The Night. And i just didn't sticked to this album 'till the end of time because... i got the other albuns from Morphine.
This album is amazing. Take Me with You When You Go makes me sad because about the time I was getting into this album my GF broke up with me and said she was going to move away............how wierd is that?
The last song on this album makes me really sad, when he sings take me with you when you go, I don't know just makes me really sad. I listened to this album twice today.
Same for me. At the time I think I couldn't bear to listen to it as I was just so sad that Mark was dead and that Morphine couldn't carry on. I listened a few times and never really got into it. Now, several years on, it is my favourite album.
This album is sheer genius. And the Sandman knew how to make a song HEAVY. Listen to A Good Woman is Hard to Find......That song booms with a thick bottom end rumble that would make Master of Reality era Sabbath proud.
"the night" is truly a great swan song of a great band. at first i didn't like it as much as the other albums, because it was clearly a departure from the punchy, more rocking sound. but it is also much more diverse than the previous albums, which is exactly what i loved it for in the end.

it's a shame this band never really broke out from the underground, as they're brimming with pure, unadulterated genius.
