@seemagics The United States educates more students than any other country in the world and as long as our educators have the opportunity to give their students their best we can be the best nation in the world. Unfortunately, these cuts will keep our educators from giving our students the best possible education. It is just a matter of time until the U.S. is largely irrelevant on the world's political and economic stage if the current trend is not changed immediately.
The last people that need to be laid off is teachers! Have you talked to these kids and teenagers nowadays, they are as bright as a 2 watt light bulb, and almost as sharp. The top of class are the C students because of the bell curve. No child left behind? No teacher left behind!
@taptap69tap I totally agree and the economic impact that will hit in August when all of those teachers hit the unemployment lines will demoralize our economy as well. The young people that we should be equipping with the ability to combat this crisis will not have the education to bring us back to productivity due to lack of teachers.
Whether tax cuts for the wealthy result in "trickle down" or not depends on who you talk to. But one thing that trickles down for sure: budget cuts. These days, most on the right wouldn't admit to being Keynesians, but the only reason the '08 crash didn't lead to a 30's style depression outright was the fact that Soc Sec recipients and a much higher proportion of gov. employees still had money to spend. But it seems even that's dwindling away now. Smell the beer? I think I need a beer.
@wickedenchanter "trickle down ecnomics " AKA Reagan nomics LOL even if the top dogs millionares and above went on a spending spree it wouldn't amout to a hill of beans as a ecnomic stimulus ,how many new cars ,refridgerators ,TVs, and so on is a narrow segment of society going to buy ? what is needed is puting our work force back to work, NAFTA & outsorceing has guted our industural base ,reduced the job market to a service industry, only so many can find jobs there, better get a 12 pack ! :)
@kamphwagon1 Well, to be fair, it's not what the wealthy spend that stimulates the economy, but what they invest. And the trouble, I think, is that they aren't investing in America, but rather in labor markets in other countries. For this kind of thing to work, there needs to be some way to tie tax cuts to domestic investment. But the righties would howl like spoiled brats if you put strings on the giveaways.
@wickedenchanter True , investment is the key , ole willie put them in a use it or lose it spot where you either payed it in in taxes or invested it ,they won't be looking for tax write offs if they get to keep it and pay no taxes on it,it's like holding a carrot in frount of a mule to get him to move and let him have it afterwards,but if you just let him have it anyway and expect him to move he'l just eat it and won't move ..
@wickedenchanter The budget cuts might trickle down and up but they gush at the middle class. Who is paying for this recession? The upper class may be making less and the lower class may have a few less benefits but the brunt of this recession is being shouldered by the middle class and all political parties seem to be fine with that. Our country has been built on the middle class every since the industrial revolution. We are actively whittling away the base of our country's economy.
@disenchanting1 Well ain't that the damn truth! The bigger question is, what supports the middle class? Righties will say it's investment by the wealthy that fuels the economy. But I'm gonna stand here and yell, "Where's the beef?" The Bush tax cuts have been in place for a decade. Why aren't they working?
