Consider that Terry, in the suit, has 10x the strength of a man. You're telling me that fast-acting steroids, that somehow increase muscle mass out of nowhere without eating protein, are going to be a match for that suit...?
The creators really don't think this through, do they?
@AidanMclaren Didn´t say it wasn´t. It makes about as much sense as wiley Coyote being tough enough to survive all his deathtraps while looking like he´s onb the verge of starving to death. I´m just saying the crew probably didn´t care about the nature of fast-acting steroids and RL physics when they made this scene.
Okay, who else wants to get their hands on those venom patches? just for that extra boost of strength? I know I do! just gotta time it so it's not long term damage, so once in a great while.
The best thing about Batman Beyond is how they managed to make very interesting new villains, but also incorporate many of the older ones either directly or their key traits in a believeable manner within the context of a future Gotham.
@codafett Maybe I haven't seen the episode, but I think that Inque lived through dissolving, and her shadow is last seen in the ending clip of the episode, and Shriek also lived, but again, I'm not sure.
Blight's body was never found and the creators said they were gonna bring him back. Inque and Shriek were both present in the JLU episode Epilogue which showed an older Terry McGuiness. Chapel and Terrific Trio no one cared about.
I know this is a kid's show, but I have to wonder why the basics of fighting a larger person are never featured in one of these small versus large fights. Steroids won't keep his eyes, kneecaps, or groin safe from injury, even if his pain receptors are blocked by the venom, a solid eye gouge would impair his vision, and a broken knee would slow him down quite a bit.
Also, this may be Terry's lack of training, but why would you attack the center mass of someone THAT huge?
@WarriorBoy Have you ever see anybody from Batman family attack somebody in those areas? They're there to stop them and lock them up not incapacitate them, though sometimes it happens involuntarily. I recall a scene in Under the Red Hood where Jason Todd did Cripple a gang member, and go chewed out by Bruce for it. Justice is Blind but you don't have to Blind people to get Justice.
@glenngunnerzero: In the Arkham games, Batman does numerous moves that cripple his opponents, and Batman Year One and also Dark Knight Returns, Batman breaks bones; just because he doesn't kill doesn't mean he goes easy on these guys in any way. And you can attack the eyes without blinding someone permanently, it would be the go-to thing to do in a situation like this one.
I don't expect the artists or guys who lay out the action to be experts, but its something I noticed.
When the series first started I remember thinking it would be cool if they did a future version of Bane, but this episode ultimately left me disappointed.
Terry could have saved himself a 3 minute fight if he had just knocked the patches out of the guy's hand with a batarang when the dealer held it up to show.
He just dropped those rolls onto the scientists yes? Unless they were Styrofoam or something like that it would have killed them. and wasnt an overdose how batman beat Bane? No points for originality.
@Blasted2Oblivion Well, it's basically the Beyond version of Bane, so I wouldnt really say that.
Also, Bane was defeated NUMEROUS ways. usually involving pulling the tube out, or electrocuting him through the formula.
And here he wasnt defeated with venom. Venom only made him worse and stronger. He was defeated when he punched something that blew up in his face and just fucked him over in addition to the venom overdose
@FlameG102 I suppose you are right with the parts about Bane. Still though, the rolls would have likely killed those scientists unless they were dosed with the stuff as well(I cant see the entire episode so as far as I know they could have been).
@Xerock what do you mean? The whole episode was about the investigation of Slappers and who manufactured them, lol not like they had a subliminal message about not doing drugs.
I recall Static Shock having one episode though that was against guns or bullying, something like that.
not really, Venom is a type of steroids that is the fuel of Bane's abilities, of course everyone wanted the stuff, it would make fighting crime a damned nightmare.
I meant how Terry's mom found the slappers and immediately accused Terry of using drugs. They did that in the Brady Bunch. That's how old and cliche that subplot is.
Manufacturing the drugs for urban use was not a bad plot. Back int he 90's, Marvel comics did something similar with Captain America's old Super Soldier serum for their 2099 line.
Anabolic steroids, technically known as anabolic-androgen steroids (AAS) or colloquially simply as "steroids" or "'roids", are drugs that mimic the effects of testosterone and dihydrotestosterone in the body. They increase protein synthesis within cells, which results in the buildup of cellular tissue (anabolism), especially in muscles.
Anabolic steroids also have androgenic and virilizing properties, including the development and maintenance of masculine characteristics such as the growth of the vocal cords, testicles, and body hair (secondary sexual characteristics). The word anabolic comes from the Greek ἀναβολή anabole, "that which is thrown up, mound", and the word androgenic from the Greek ἀνδρός andros, "of a man" + -γενής -genes, "born".
Anabolic steroids were first isolated, identified, and synthesized in the 1930s, and are now used therapeutically in medicine to stimulate bone growth and appetite, induce male puberty, and treat chronic wasting conditions, such as cancer and AIDS.
The American College of Sports Medicine acknowledges that AAS, in the presence of adequate diet, can contribute to increases in body weight, often as lean mass increases, and that the gains in muscular strength achieved through high-intensity exercise and proper diet can be additionally increased by the use of AAS in some individuals.
Health risks can be produced by long-term use or excessive doses of anabolic steroids. These effects include harmful changes in cholesterol levels (increased low-density lipoprotein and decreased high-density lipoprotein), acne, high blood pressure, liver damage (mainly with oral steroids), and dangerous changes in the structure of the left ventricle of the heart. Conditions pertaining to hormonal imbalances such as gynecomastia and testicular atrophy may also be caused by anabolic steroids.
Ergogenic uses for anabolic steroids in sports, racing, and bodybuilding are controversial because of their adverse effects and the potential to gain an advantage conventionally considered "cheating." Their use is referred to as doping and banned by all major sporting bodies.
For many years, AAS have been by far the most detected doping substances in IOC-accredited laboratories. In countries where AAS are controlled substances, there is often a black market in which smuggled, clandestinely manufactured, or even counterfeit drugs are sold to users.
Oh and apart from those guys getting crushed - that headbutt around 1:31 is EPIC :D That's pretty much what made some of the DVDs in the UK a 12 rather than PG :D
I love how brutal this whole scene is! Man, I miss my childhood and watching awesome animated series like this from the 90s-early 2000s. Haha I remember Chapel scared me a tiny bit - and I actually thought he was gonna 'kill' Batman when he screamed 'I'LL KILL YOU!' Batman TAS was awesome (the best in fact), followed closely by this. This is much better than the revamp episodes that came before it - but even then, the revamp series was also classic. :)
@GrandJediMaster7860 Thats one of the reasons I love this series (as well as Batman TAS); they got away with a lot of things that I'd think would get censored these days, i.e the 2 guys getting crushed in this scene, the "Earth Mover" episode or that mutated...thing at the end of "Splicers".
OK, Chapel follows the 'Too Dumb to live' trope. Since he saw what Venom eventually did to Bane, don't you thing he should know not to take Venom himself?
Not to mention, it's kinda bad Chapel has no real back-story, explaining his motivations and so on.
@Wykletypl I think he took the venom patches as a last resort coz Terry found out his operation. He probably thought "I'll just use this once to kill Batman."
This is one of my all time favorite fights from BB series cause it really reminded me of a classic batman vs Bane fight . Te fact that terry used both his might and wits to battle chapel like Bruce did to bane gave me such a nostalgic feeling thanks for the upload bro, much love as a Batman fan >;) (no homo lol)
Batman Beyond was so brilliant. I loved this as a kid, I was a pansy back then, but I watched this show RELGIOUSLY regardless of my fear. It was so dark for me, and watching it again, it's decently still grim and vicious. Love it. Chapel slapped himself silly in the end, lol, that poetic justice was haunting throughout the whole series. Shame that they never make kid shows as dark or meaningful anymore. :(
@darkeradicator1990 more like his caretaker, I don't remember them actually saying how close they were but Bane had to have a lot of trust in him to give him the Venom formula for production.
It blows my mind that Will Friedle does Terry's voice. I always picture him voicing some crazy hilarious nerd :D It's so weird to hear him be this calm lol
@lyricalheartstrings Yeah he really did a good job with the voice of Batman/Terry. He has been doing alot of VAs for more mature characters though, I think Ron Stoppable from Kim Possible was the only quirky character he did.
@Kojiben It does look a bit weird, and confusing, but I think he just dropped down very quickly. Very cool anyway! I forgot how good this show was. Thanks for sharing!
@packaderm135 then they would've included that. This is a classic case of animation studios making the scenes in a not chronological order so it's easy to screw up in the editing.
@dessan18 He actually landed on the ground really fast. If you pause the video at the right moment you can see that his foot is in the air just before it touches the ground.
@stomyn no, I think it's called the animation studio didn't do it sequentially and thus they accidentally made it very jumpy in the end, by using footage from an animation they did before doing the sequence leading up to the escape. The fact that everything before is shown at "normal" speed reinforces this
chapel > the new bane

I used to think that "Venom" was actually poison when I was younger, especially due to the dialogue. I always wondered why it never killed anyone. xD

@darkeradicator1990 more like his caretaker, I don't remember them actually saying how close they were but Bane had to have a lot of trust in him to give him the Venom formula for production.

It blows my mind that Will Friedle does Terry's voice. I always picture him voicing some crazy hilarious nerd :D It's so weird to hear him be this calm lol
lyricalheartstrings 8 months ago 13
@lyricalheartstrings Yeah he really did a good job with the voice of Batman/Terry. He has been doing alot of VAs for more mature characters though, I think Ron Stoppable from Kim Possible was the only quirky character he did.

I don't get it. He's going up at 3:02, why is he still on the ground at 3:04?
dessan18 9 months ago 7
@dessan18 oh snap, damn how the hell did you notice that? lol I watched this clip plenty of times and never noticed it. Nice find
Kojiben 9 months ago 2
@Kojiben It does look a bit weird, and confusing, but I think he just dropped down very quickly. Very cool anyway! I forgot how good this show was. Thanks for sharing!
MrPennysPop 8 months ago
@Kojiben At about 3:03-3:04 it looks like he's dropping back down though, but's just for like a split second.
TheLobsterWrestler 4 months ago
@dessan18 maybe he landed in a different spot
packaderm135 9 months ago
@packaderm135 then they would've included that. This is a classic case of animation studios making the scenes in a not chronological order so it's easy to screw up in the editing.
dessan18 9 months ago
@dessan18 He actually landed on the ground really fast. If you pause the video at the right moment you can see that his foot is in the air just before it touches the ground.
TheNewRiflemanBob 6 months ago
@dessan18 He jumped back to the ground. Very fast, it's hard to see.
Wykletypl 6 months ago
@dessan18 I think after he flew up he landed on the other side of him. Yeah though it does look weird.
lilmijo619 6 months ago
@dessan18 if ya look closely, you can see him land
burnerthehedgehog 6 months ago
@dessan18 it's called he landed
stomyn 4 months ago
@stomyn no, I think it's called the animation studio didn't do it sequentially and thus they accidentally made it very jumpy in the end, by using footage from an animation they did before doing the sequence leading up to the escape. The fact that everything before is shown at "normal" speed reinforces this
