may be your correct. my mother never at least yell at me before any body. not even before my own little brothers. she thought my little brothers loose the respect for me if she did so. she never ever did that before any outsiders. I am glad she did not. may be she is not a good mother according to you. may be your mother who yelled at you punished you before the whole world is the true mother. :D

But, a mother should not insult her child before the whole world for that. and a real mother will never. that's something a mother should do inside house. I agree with you, a good mother never insults her child/children.
I used the word “(දරුවට) කෑගහනවා” which means reprimand in English, not insult “(දරුවට) අවමන් කරනවා”.
These two words have a big difference.
