If you want my honest opinion, Asuka should have gotten it worse. I know, I know, every fanboy out there is gonna rage, but think of it this way: It was her own hubris that got her pwned by Arael, as Rei was supposed to lead, not her. If she had obeyed orders, she wouldn't have gotten mindraped, wouldn't have been in a coma, and probably would've been able to change the events of the attack.

goddamn, that scream at 4:32 always tears me up. Asuka's story is so sad, especially after her psychological breakdown at the hands of the angel. Her flashbacks of her youth, her sleepover with hikari, her attempted suicide, and this final scene are just so sad. I hate how she has to get eaten by giant flying penises with mouths :(.

@ultimaballer Sortof, they have S2 engines like the "Angels" did, so they can regenerate and the only way to kill them is to destroy the core, problem was she was fighting them as if they were Evas, rather than as if they were Angels like she should have, still I doubt she had time to do it that way, she barely had time to do as much to them as she did.

This was such a sad death scene. After all the pain she had been through, Asuka was finally herself again, and finally able to pilot Unit 02 again...to die right after making such an amazing comeback is tragic.

Good luck with that, lol, there are eight million interpretations. I'm certain she died, though. Technically speaking the whole human race began the process of reconstruction at the end of the movie, but Asuka was the first one out.

(what an asshole, choking an unconscious girl) then they stood there alone by the red sea on a sunset, somewhat romantic, not too cheesy... a good ending but it's really tragic thinking that all of humanity is gone and there only remains two 14 year old kids to continue living

I know she comes back later, I was just referring to this specific scene. She does die here. Shinji knew she was conscious, so he wasn't choking an unconscious girl, he was choking a conscious girl...and considering all he'd been through that day, is it really so shocking that he's a bit shocked? Also, it's not for sure that they are the only two left. It was hinted that more humans were going to arise from the LCL.

@TheShockMaster she was conscious when she popped out of the LCL? it seems like i'm the one who's forgetting things, sorry LOL. well it was hinted that some humans MIGHT pop out (if they want to) but we really don't know since it already ended at that part when asuka was the first one to be revived and it might have been that she's the only one who was revived and to put the fate of humanity to two mentally unstable kids? that's more than "tragic" to me

Assuming that's really what happened. We don't know if more humans came out of the LCL or not after...well, "after the camera stopped rolling." I'm willing to bet based on what I saw and heard that what happened afterward was that most humans self-resurrected (with the exception of those who did not want to come back). I'll even take it further and say that Asuka and Shinji got back to being normal eventually. I mean, right after seeing all this, who wouldn't be mentally unstable?

Trust me, you HAVE to watch Neon Genesis Evangelion. It's considered one of the greatest animes of all time, and it's my personal favorite *show* of all time. I have never seen such rich character development in...anything. Not anime, not live-action stuff...anything. Do yourself a favor and buy the DVD box set.
