  • Thank U so much for posting these vids, I remember and miss these days so much.... classic cheer leading at it's finest.

  • Amazing!

  • wow! amazing for 1983 they were way ahead of their time

  • 83, the year I got booted from hs. Anyway these women are amazing athletes and this is some real talent on display...

  • This was cheerleading at it's best from 1983!!! A century ago by cheerleading standards, but very Elite for the Era!!! I love seeing these videos, and whoever you are ADofTexas, you are so Great for posting them!!! I wish there were more of them! I used to own all of these, but lost all videos when i moved out of my home state of Ohio, thanks for sharing!!!

  • @cheercoach1984

Thank you. I, too, love these old routines and I am bored to death by modern cheerleading, which is why I posted these. Please feel free to down load these all. If you can not do so, then contact me and I will burn a dvd for you.

  • 2:00 head whips ahahahahhahaha

  • That was RIDICULOUS!

  • I live in this county i was board so i looked up my counties name i live in south shore a small town in greenup we are known for our softball we won state btw we also are good at baseball asu can see cheerleading and oohh being rednecks

  • they don't make cheerleaders like that anymore

  • This is one of the most awesome routines I have ever seen!! Did you win?

  • I was only a television observer. I am glad you enjoyed the routines.

  • Those back flips off the pyramids look scary.

  • They were.

  • i wanna cheer with these team, lol

  • Thank You!! My love for Jesus can be summed up with this cheer I made up "Jesus Christ Is The Best". The idea came when I had a persuasive speech in my public speaking class ...So I wrote my speech in the form of a cheer along with biblical support and personal conviction. It was like a pep rally in my class, it was AWESOME, I persuaded my clasmates to give their lives to Jesus Christ. I received an A+ on the assignment ."Leap and jump for joy for yours is the kingdom of heaven" God Bless*\0/*

  • J-E-SUS JESUS CHRIST IS THE BEST!!!

True spirit originates from the spirit of God, and it is something you can't buy. Either you have it or you don't. So AdofTexas I soooo agree. "Help me out with this last request, say J-E-SUS Jesus Christ is THE BEST!!!!!!"....*\0/*"

  • ryandira,

And that is the real meaning of Spirit! As Jesus said to the man who answered that loving God and loving our neighbor were the two greatest commandments, you, too, are near to the real meaning of cheerleading!

  • Maybe...with the right coach(s),sponsors, and squads that posess genuine CHEER SPIRIT!!!!!:) *\0/*

  • I like your positive attitude. With God all things are possible. We do not live in a negative universe, but one that is truly positive. And true cheer spirit is godly, thus supported by God.

  • I Agree:)

  • Ryandira, can this true spirit be restored in our country again?

  • I have to agree... cheer and dance comps today are predictable and boring. This performance is exemplary of girls that absolutley love to cheer, compete, and have REAL school spirit. Unlike the motives of being a c-leader today, like gaining popularity or because one of your parents is influential in the school.

  • You make an excellent point. Cheering back then was not a big industry as it is today. The kids who got on the squads had to have a genuine enthusiasm and love for the activity. These kids had servant hearts. This is one of the great traditions of Americana that made America great. Kids who truly cared about their schools, families and neighborhoods.

  • they're losers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • They can still be done. Just cheer in an organization that allows them.

  • The 1984 split backhandsprings are AMAZING!

  • @ashg1989 They were called "Face Slams", i believe!!!! they were the bomb!

  • Thank you. This is why I put up these videos. Let's hope the industry returns to its roots.

  • Wow!!! A time when cheerleaders could actually do really creative things like flip off the top of a pyramid!!! cheer has too many rules now!!

  • Thank you for participating in the Golden Age of Cheerleading when awesome routines were creative and exciting. I would love to see the work you and your peers did return.

  • I miss the splits and jumps, not done much anymore. Back in the "olden days" we competed against and beat boy/girl squads, there was one division and one national champion.

I would love a copy of this and be more than happy to compensate you for your time and expenses, thanks again for letting me relive my youth a little.

  • Thank you, this made my day!

    1983 GC Cheerleader

  • Quite honestly, the only routines that I consider innovative for 83/84 are those from Los Alamitos and Mater Dei. There are several elements in each of those routines that many HS and AS squads use today, so for me, those are the two programs that pushed the envelope. Greenup is just as much a machine today as they were 25 years ago, but to me their choreography is a bit flat. I think their impossible precisision and tumbling is what gave them the edge, not stunts and acrobatics.

  • I am glad you enjoy cheerleading today. I do not. But to each your own.

  • @loveAScheer Greenup County, I believe was in innovator of many of the elements in their routine: Stunting, Tumbling for sure! Not many teams from about 1980-1985 had team standing back tucks, ROBHS Back Tucks, that was Unheard of from the era!! They have dominated National Competition from the 80's,90's,00's, and the 10's..Who could say that? Not many, and certainly not a little town in KY...I respect everythingthat they have done in the sport of Cheerleading! I have been involved for 25 years!

  • this is amazing really... it's too bad that alot of these stunts and moves are illegal today heh

  • Gloria, there are literally thousands of stunts that could be used in cheerleading that are not illegal. People have the herd mentality and follow what ever trends are current. But squads can introduce many other safe stunts and make routines more interesting. These videos also provide creative choreography ideas. I hope new squads will bring back some of these moves.

  • What moves in particular are you speaking of? I cannot for the life of me think of any one particular section of this routine that exceeds modern standards. Mini tramps are illegal, as are pyramids higher than two people. What does that leave in this routine? Full team tucks -- most nationally ranked teams have them. Dancing is much better today than in '83. Other than the amazingly tight motions and backhandsprings to splits, there is nothing about this routine that stands out.

  • Aesthetics is a matter of opinion. Perhaps we will not agree. My comment is not confined to this one routine but many of the routines from the 1980's. I think the choreography - I do not mean the dance alone, but the blocking of the routine as a whole - is superior to choreography today. I do not like the sexual implications of much of the dance today either. As for the acrobatics, I would like to see new organizations spring up that would embrace the great stunts seen here.

  • It's funny, my mom coached Boyd County this year, and as we were watching this...she informed me that the announcer asked her to travel with UCA and be a camp director!!! haha

    Wow...

  • That is quite cool. It is a small world, indeed.

  • This is unreal

I can't believe Greenup is still going strong all these years!

  • candy berry?

  • perfect!! ♥ love Greenup cheer

  • Thanks. It is my hope that by putting up these old routines, it will encourage this generation of cheerleaders to expand their acrobatic horizon and include new material from the past.

  • I agree. These coaches need to look into the past for some inspiration instead of these hip hop videos and movies. These cheerleaders are AMAZING!

  • Thanks candeegirl, I agree. This comes from the golden age of American cheerleading competition.

    AD

  • hahahah this is crazy I LOVE IT!! BIg thanks to GreenUp for helping cheerleading become what it is today!!!

  • Totally awesome especially considering what they are doing here in 1983! This was the start of real competitive cheerleading!
