I want to know why everyone hates Raul and basically wishes he was out of the picture and Christine was with Phantom the whole time. Not only would that have left a pretty dull story (No love triangle and no villain since Phantom would be the protagonist), but you have to remember that Phantom doesn't seem to truly love Christine. He says "Let it be war upon you both". You don't wish that on someone you love, even if they don't return it. Only Raul loves her unconditionally. He's just not badass

So she becomes infatuated with the phantom through belief that he is the angel of music. Then pretty boy turns up and we know the rest of the story. @endora60 you do have some good points there. BUT this is how I see it: I don't think The Phantom just loved her voice at the end. I think he truly loved HER, as a person. Even if he had a strange way of showing it. I never got the right feeling about Raoul, so that might be why I didn't like him. I thought he was a week character, if only they made him a strong character who could match the Phantom. What was it like in the books? I've never read them, so I don't know. It's just how I see it :)
