  • @roejogan8 you prick. I agree w/ u on On the Beach. Thank you, you motherfucker.

  • ****************................!

  • I've never forgotten that line : "all my problems are meaningless, that don't make them go away." and will never forget it.

  • This was the best album of 1974 hands down. Forget KISS, the Eagles, Deep Purple, the New York Dolls, Aerosmith and Foghat. Clancy's OTB was the only music that was really cookin' that year.

  • @mikedonn71 listen you dogmatic little shit! this is one hell of an album but let's not overlook radio city by big star, autobahn by kraftwerk, king crimson's red, kimono my house by sparks, the live velvet underground album, diamond dogs by bowie, and on and on. this is probably my fav record from that year tho...

  • Se me para el pico del alma.

  • I love Neil...Great smoking song ;D.....good shit

  • Comment removed

  • drinking song

  • @CAallday209 - smoking song ;D

  • Ah, one of those big and brooding NY ones...

  • Neil is one of the best musician/songwriters of all time!

I was on a 3 day boat trip recently on the Mekong river and i had this playing,i could have died there and then a happy woman!

    I LOVE NEIL YOUNG

  • My new favorite song!

  • this is up there with one of the best songs ever written

  • Happy birthday, Neil!

  • Those guitar solos kill me, every time.

  • awesome tune....

  • My world's turning

  • Why can't old Neil write at least 1 more song like this? If I compare this album with his recent stuff I get depressed...it's really true that the capability to write song dies when you get 30 or 40

  • @cla114 That's because when you get to 30 or 40 you realize the stuff you're writing is stupid.

  • @cla114 I disagree. Not in Neil's case he still writes good songs and keeps going after like 45 years of releasing music. He's the only one from his generation that has had a consistent release of albums 95-98% of em great. I don't like his latest album but you know he'll follow it up with another great one. I really like fork in the road, all the songs are great on it.

  • really wonder

  • can you add "midnight on the bay"? I love that song.

  • Neil loves his Maj7ths and I love Neil. It's a blues song , I suppose but it so isn't.. I don't love blues as much as i adore listening to this.Favourite song ever. It's actually uplifting in that unique Neil Young way. It's cracked but perfect.Bessie Smith would have loved it.And Billie Holiday

  • So edgey so dark, my favorite Neil young album.

  • After all these years I just noticed...I think the inside of the original cover was the same pattern as the beach chairs and umbrella.

  • So bluesy, it just gets to ya.

  • A great liric...amazing

  • Kinda random but Eddie Vedder's 'End of the Road' sounds a lil like this and hes a big Neil fan

  • I went with a friend to Morocco in 77 and stayed with a farmer in Ketama. He bought us a big bag of kif with our tea and we joyfully partook. But we had no sounds (before Ipods a mobiles). a while later the farmer returned and gave us an old cassette player with 2 tapes. Surreally, one was "on the beach" and the other "chungas revenge" by Zappa. we played em too death. Great albums.

  • @doirevomba Is that a true story? ;)

  • @BelRiose2000. Course, we stayed 2 weeks and the farmer did bring us some Morrocan folk music, which was great as well. Those 2 albums though were digitally embossed on my brain forever after.

  • @doirevomba gnarly. slash. awesome.

  • Love the cover...Cadillac Drove a Needle In to His Arm and into a ditch...Nixon Resigns on the newspaper headline....need a crowd of people, but can't face them from day to day...know what your talking about Neil

  • @Mark40047 The insided of the cover was neat too. Bought this album when it was a week or so old.

  • The Greatest!

  • was this originally a hole song?

  • not the best album of his but surely his best song EVER

  • Think I'll get outta town..

  • Never afraid to sing his real feelings, ole Neil was in the zone with this song. Thanks Neil for your great songs over the years! Some gold here and there has made the trip a little easier.

  • Always get a nostalgic feeling listening to this. Think about everything that has ever happened to me, what i did in the summers earlier.

  • I remember finding this album used for $7 at a second hand shop before it was out on CD. It had a huge roach ash stuck to it. I thought it was hopeless but bought it anyway. A quick clean and it was like new.....what a fucking album!

  • This is what I call Catarsis

  • Neil Young = One of the greats.

  • Neil's getting old and it makes me sad...but I dont know why.....its not as if im not also

  • @damiensongs beautiful

  • @damiensongs

That's stupid. Everyone get's older. But Neil Young's music will still be around long after He, You & I are long gone. And that's a really magical thing...

  • @damiensongs

I'm am only 22 and i feel the same, It's because he's the best in transforming emotions into music. I think Neil and his music is something nostalgic for all of us.

  • @damiensongs Well, he never overdosed or asphyxiated on his own vomit like other great musicians have. We need to be thankful for that.

  • @capodencia85 Sadly the drummer for Spinal Tap once asphyxiated on someone else's vomit. Unfortunately the police could not dust for vomit and felt the case was best left unsolved.

  • ,,he won't get much older if we can find a way to stop it !

  • I listen to lot of different artists....but when i go back to listenin to Neil, he makes them look so bad.....

  • In my opinion some are legends,Captain Beefheart, Frank Zappa, Carlos Santana, Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, The Band and Neil Young.

  • @beowulf3075 great list. great song

  • i was born in '72.... still, i agree, this is the greatest album ever made.

  • It feels like an after tsunami.

  • my fave neil young album my fave neil young song a bluesy masterpiece

  • one of the best blues guitar solos ever

  • It's hardly a secret that Neil Young was in a lugubrious state for a while in the early 1970s--his heart felt like it would never feel joy again.

  • @roguenation lugubrious: mournful, dismal, or gloomy, especially in an affected, exaggerated, or unrelieved manner.(WEBSTER DICTIONARY)...just to save other inquisitive people from opening up another web page...lol

  • I am afraid that the world has already turned away

  • @stepenwolf7 No no no.... The World is here ! Don't turn away from IT !

It's all good.... seriously. It really is.

  • @stepenwolf7 It sure feels like it, well said. Peace 85........

  • Elvis Costello's Favorite Neil Album!!!!!!!!!!

  • I follow the road, though I don't know where it ends.

  • There is something magical about the first guitar solo. It pulls on something deep down in my soul that I honestly can say I have never felt from music before. The Cmaj7 in the chorus has got to be one of the most beautiful sounds I've ever heard.

  • une chanson superbe, mais je préfére la version de The Walkabouts)

  • a sad masterpiece

  • Not Neil's greatest album by far but certain very fine and relevant.

All my pictures are falling .. sort of the antithesis of Harvest with she got pictures on the wall they made me look up whereas this makes you look down. Hey whatever Neil asks I will do .

  • The world is turnin', I hope it don't turn away,

The world is turnin', I hope it don't turn away

I follow the road, though I don't know where it ends.

Now I'm livin' out here in the desert,

but those roadrunners are still out of reach

I follow the road, though I don't know where it ends

Get out of town, get out of town, think I'll get out of town.

'Cause the world is turnin', I don't want to see it turn away

  • I really like this album as a whole, but when I get to this song and I know I've got Motion Pictures and Ambulance Blues just 'round the corner, I know I'm headed for tears.

  • this is awesome music to make love to ;)

  • ugh. bourbon and neil.

  • though my problems are meaning less, that don't make them go away......

  • @georgiomendes great lyrics to a superb song

  • I still have this album on vinyl.

Back then, we went up and down the surf coast of Vic Australia, with this album

playing on cassette tape. I was 18 and a long time has passed since then.

Now and then I need a "fix" from Neil.

    Cheers all,

    The Ute!

  • @theute01 nice memories..

  • @theute01 me too still on vinyl! hee hee! I was 20 and in sydney from queensland.. and a long time has passed since then! love this song, love the album

  • Not hating on Prog rock or anything, but I this is really what comes to mind when I think progressive and rock. This and the Arcade Fire.

  • Comment removed

  • @boatsnhoes79 Why did you remove that wonderful response to me? Well, I've preserved it. "what the fuck are you talking about, gtfo off youtube faggot, this is neil young something your 15 yr old ass doesnt know shit about..who the fuck is arcade fire bitch this is REAL music....and YOU look like an asshole, not evildemoninside" Well, you best be trollin'.

  • @boatsnhoes79 If not, I must say. First of all, you best be trollin, as you clearly have never listened to the Arcade Fire. listen to an album, come back and tell me that's not music. You're bias is there because they are popular. Second of all, whoever said they preferred the rapper is obviously a troll. Even so, There's no reason to hate on them, they make music people enjoy it.

Lastly, I own all of Neils albums, and have met and conversed with him.

Congratulations, you look like an asshole

  • @topsecretassassin Wow, that argument blew me away. You win, with your complex and well backed up ideas presented in cool and collected manner. Enjoy the rest of puberty, little 13 year old.

  • @topsecretassassin I said it was cool in the way of weird. Not for musical purposes; thought it was weird and that was enjoyable.

    youtube[.]com/watch?v=xC03hmS1Brk

This does not sound good but it's funny.

  • @deathstarcafe sorry for being a dick to you, no hard feelings....i can't pull up any video with that URL, try again...

  • @deathstarcafe anyone who likes neil is cool with me

  • @topsecretassassin Yeah I see why you were arguing though. I mean, when someone seems aggressive, it's natural to want to defend yourself. The reason I was aggressive is you seemed aggressive. But it's all cool now. By the way, it was a Jon LaJoie song called I kill people. Search it.

  • @deathstarcafe yeah sorry bout that, i can be a douche sometimes........ LOL i just added it to one of my playlists, thx

  • @deathstarcafe well nice talking to you

  • @deathstarcafe you are a lying shitdick..........and putting neil young in the same genre as arcade fire? congratulations, you ARE an asshole

  • @regalblowjob (calling me an asshole without making a valid argument).

I refuse to be trolled further

  • I love you Neil..you are the greatest..

  • please don't contaminate the comment section for this video by mentioning *insert talentless rapper or pop star here* 's name

  • @evildemoninside I think it's funny. Also, calling them talentless just makes you look like an ass hole

  • @evildemoninside

    Couldn't agree more..

  • That guitar moment at like 03:00... damn.. It just descends into pure pure pure pure pure pure LOVE or something. I can listen to it over and and over and over again.

  • I prefer Drake

  • @TheTayMan : So does Lil Wayne!

  • I need a croud of of people. but i can't face em day to day. ME TOO!

  • so f-in chill

  • It's very very relaxing... whoah... XD I can feel the waves and the sand when I hear this song. I think this album and "Bad Company" are two of the best in the world

  • release time fades away

  • Listening to this album on some far away beach, might change your life for good... I just did it yesterday...

  • @logixich .... i fully agree, this is heaven, man man, what a song, what an album, MAGIC A ++++++

i'll never forget the first time i heard the song and the album .... NOTHING sounds better than this ....

    Luc - Belgium

  • מטפטף :-|

  • Dreamy, haunting. This song sends me above the madness, the drudgery, the ordinary to another place in the universe.

  • Back in those days.....there was nothing better than a fat dove tail and a nice warm summer evening in Redondo Beach, listening to this album and s p a c i n o u t

ah...those were the days my friend....

    Fox

  • @foxloner

what is a "fat dove tail"?

  • @doodeloo Doobie....aka...Joint....aka...fat dove tail joint...smiles.

  • Masterpiece...

  • how come you never hear anyone with a voice like this sumbitch?? he's jus plain awesome

  • get out of town, think i'll get out of town....

  • Oh man, Neil Young and Thom Yorke are the only songwriters that can give me chills, beautiful.

  • love it Don't you

  • @MrAugustus88 Can't believe you just said On The Beach sucks.. crazy kook.

  • Love you Neil!

  • I am a tough critic, the good thing is that everyone has a different opinion on songs.

  • Comment removed

  • @MrAugustus88 You're just pissin' in the wind.

  • @IggyPelman He doesn't know it, but he is...

  • dear! what a good song!

  • 'On the beach' & 'See the sky about to rain' are amazing songs, the rest of the album sucks. An artist that has recorded 40 solo albums and has contributed to many collaborations is bound to record masterpieces and crap.

  • @MrAugustus88 wow, this is such a bad comment

  • im sorry, sir, but im afraid youve overlooked revolution blues, ambulance blues, motion pictures, walk on, for the turnstiles, and vampire blues... all quality A+ music that goes above and beyond what the overwhelming majority of so-called "artists" can put out there... is it perfect? no... but is it really a work of art that can be judged my anyone solely by the merity of individual tracks? c'mon, buddy, it's a breath-taking album... numbingly-beautiful.

  • This is the greatest album in the Universe. It's as if nothing else exists

  • @logixish there was a time when men and women played rock and roll. and yes, even if aliens on a million different words made records, this truly is the greatest album in the entire universe.

  • @logixish True statement.

  • @logixish true. My favourite album too of all albums!

  • @logixish Could not agree more!

  • i can,t belive i've gone so long without listening to this album...he was my fav then and still is to this day! there was a time when my pals and me never turned on the radio..only the turntable and tape deck to listen to niel...time to get back to my roots

  • @d19690z

and you gotta realize, for like 20 years this album was unpublished. still, in the 90's, there were enough of us who agree with you (he didn't republish this album until the 2000's, but i swear, we had our copies and we realized ---- this is the best (if not, journey through the past was)

  • in the beach( the album) the greatest neil young work ever, i have any doubt about it

  • E' l'album più bello di neil, amato e cantato mille volte da ragazza. ..

  • Outstanding!

Thank you very much - muchas gracias!!! (trying to work on the muy poco of espanol that I know).

  • La melodia di on the beach è.....magica

  • anche le parole.

  • Greatest Song in the world

  • classic material

  • love that slow, mazzy guitar part in the middle :P
