  • I think Obama's comment may have been a factor in why a Republican was elected in a Senate seat long held by Edward Kennedy. I think Obama realized later that he had made a big mistake by getting involved in this issue. I also think when he criticised some rap star for going on stage when a country singer had won a grammy over Beyonce, he did it to try to even a playing field.

  • He was asked a question at a news conference. Protocol: declare interest, add caveat of not knowing details. English law: no encoded constitution, no first or fifth amendments, no free speech or right to remain silent. On an episode of Cops I saw a police officer pull over two innocent black guys, pull his gun or something off camera, then when they ran off he got 6 cruisers and then charged them with resisting arrest. Original arrest based on no grounds.

  • Yes, you are very self-righteous; but do you really think the President should have stuck his nose into a minor case, and actually take sides?

Do you not think the President was abusing his power?

Also, get real - the cops, the media, the government, every public office, goes soft on blacks. What more can they do? Blacks are pretty much getting down on their knees and begging to be arrested, in droves. The main problem for the police is how not to arrest them.

  • @capturedpilot

Yeah right. Every psychological study done shows that police tend to have more authoritarian attitudes than the rest of the public, every undercover report shows that they have a jocular, casually racist attitude when they think they're alone. Then there are the numerous incidences where unarmed people have been gunned down because they were black. Lorenzo Collins, Michael Carpenter, Courtney Mathis, Mark Duggan and Fred Hampton to name a few.

  • @gamerunknown Name one study. I will read it and get back to you.

Mark Duggan was an armed gangster, with a record of firearms offences.

In the UK, the police are ultra-careful with their use of firearms, especially regarding black Yardies. In America, all police-officers do all possible to avoid armed confrontations with black criminals. Being black is now total carte blanche.

By 2040, whites will be the minority in American (about 48%). Then you will reap the whirlwind.

  • @capturedpilot

You're right that Mark Duggan was armed, sorry for getting that wrong, but his gun was recovered in a sock and was unfired. One study was "Conservatism, dogmatism and authoritarianism in British police". Another is "Institutional racism and the police". I haven't studied the topic in a while so can't remember any others. "The Secret Policeman" was an undercover documentary.

  • @gamerunknown Okay. Thanks, I will get reading and get back to you.

Re Duggan, give the UK Police a break: they were confronting a known shootist. I am not a fan of the UK Police; but credit where it is due; this time, they actually took down one of the bad guys. That's their job.

Duggan was a thug, a bully and a criminal. Why cry for him? Save your tears for real victims. Like the people he terrorised, beat up, or shot.

  • @capturedpilot I guess it depends on framing. I have no real sympathy for people that promulgate the gangster lifestyle as he did and then reap the consequences from their gangster acquaintances. However, while it was likely he was a gangster, he was never charged with shooting anyone and the police were mendacious when prosecuting him - shooting their own radio in order to make it seem like he'd shot at them. How the police treat criminals is a good indication of how they treat civilians.

  • @capturedpilot

I also think that legalising drugs would reduce a lot of crime (after all, having gangster T-shirts and throwing up gang signs isn't a crime, which is what he was accused of other than drug dealing). It works in Amsterdam and Sweden and it really is a civil rights issue. I am also pro-life, so yeah. That all adds into it. Legalising drugs is different to legalising other criminal stuff because it only affects the person buying it, which can be regulated.

  • @gamerunknown Okay, here is the chasm between us showing itself. Drug-dealers should be executed, along with pimps and terrorists. Lethal injection. If drugs were legalised, think of the implications: you'd be okay going to your denist knowing they might just be coming down from an LSD trip? You'd be okay with an airline-pilot who is mellowed-out on burn? Evenutally, the government would make drugs compulsary: the masses would be drifted-out on downers; easy to control. Sleepy sheep.

  • @capturedpilot

I wouldn't be comfortable knowing my dentist or pilots were currently completely pissed, but I don't think that alcohol should be made illegal. Neither would I be happy if the pilot was busy reading the Bible instead of flying the plane. What if the dentist decided to shoot every other patient? Should we outlaw guns? It's a complete non-sequitur to suggest that legalising drugs would mean repealing DUI laws and permitting them in any context.

  • @capturedpilot

Hell, one could say that the government doesn't want us to consume these substances precisely because they lead to mind altering experiences. The brains of people that have consumed LSD even once are different to those that haven't. Would the world have been a better place if Steve Jobs, Carl Sagan and Paul Erdos were thrown in jail for their lives or executed by the government? Even William F Buckley ceded that drugs should be completely legalised.

  • @gamerunknown Man, I just can't get this together. Gotta ease off on the H.

  • I HAVE STUDIED GATES MATERIAL OVER THE YEARS AND FIND HIM AT TIMES TO HAVE A TORN VIEW ON RACE WHICH CAN COME OFF AS CONTRADICTORY AT TIMES. HE HAS DONE SOME GREAT AND HONEST WORKS AT TIMES, BUT AT OTHER TIMES HIS PROFILE SEEMS SKEWED AS IF WITH CONTEMPT. THE LESSON LEARNED HERE, AFRICAN AMERICAN WHO MOVE INTO RACIST CRIMINAL WHITE NEIGHBORHOODS TO FIND SOME LOFTY PARODY GET WHAT THEY DESERVE, WHEN ARE WE GOING TO GET IT. MR. GATES DAUGHTER HAS SEEMED THOUGH TO HAVE FIGURED THIS OUT.

  • did the professor, the nigger, ever apologize to the cop?

  • @duffy31311 Why would Gates apologize? Gates should sue for false arrest, deprivation of rights, or something similar.

  • @Marleyites

false arrest? gates was making up stories about racism. thats bullshit.

  • @duffy31311 so what does making up stories about racism have to do with being arrested in his own home? I see that you're good at slinging nonsense, now can you address the real issue with facts or non-inflammatory argument? what was Gates arrested for? and why was he arrested? what was he charged with upon his arrest? what facts support the arrest?

  • @Marleyites

Resisting arrest. disorderly conduct. basically acting like a total racist jackass who falsely perceived racism. Like a lot of black people do.

  • NO! This is what happens when you turn your back on a CRISIS in your community! It meets you at your front door step! TO ALL THE YOUNG BLACK YOUTH; READ CAREFULLY:YOUR BLACK LEADERS HAVE SOLD YOU OUT. Don't believe me?Explain the HI incarceration level amongst the Black Youth. These so called Black leaders are just trying to save their own skin at the expense of the POST-INTEGRATION black youth.

  • i think we should blame the "neighbor" who called the cops. maybe if she met heny and got to know him and knew how he LOOKED LIKE. she would help him into his own house instead of calling the cops on him.

  • FTP!!!

  • That whole think was a social experiment by the gov't!!! Barrack and gates went to the same same school, same fratt!!

  • @DG3744 yes, exactly. mind-f0cking we the people, another distraction, another division, one more psy-ops to condition the people to accept unlawful police action.

  • But why should you insult a police officer, why go down to that level?

  • @charlienorway

Because racist ass POS cops take it there!!!

  • @TheBlacsheep you know that's right.

  • @LiberalViewer

To answer the questions asked at the video's end. No! It shouldn't be possible for a person to get arrested for any act or expression guarded by their 1st amendment (or any constitutional) right!...Plain and simple!

To your second question, I think the fact that it is even necessary to ask such, says that the first has been so casually and thoroughly disregarded by those who were sworn to uphold it, that we have to wait for situations as this to remind us that we have rights!

  • But nope I yes, Yes Sir no sir in an attempt to lessen whatever crap, and right now, everything honestly seems like big business, cops are out of control to give tickets cause states need cash, put their job is to protect, to serve the public right? No to place a new tax when they see they can for any reason they can try to come up with.... All the while real criminals, go free cause were is the cash there, there is no funding for it, only to give out tickets really.

  • No you should be able to do what you want, but honestly, I shut up and go along with whatever, tech its usualy being pulled over for a ticket, and I have been wrongfully pulled over, with crazy claims, like I cut somone off whne I didn't or in the act of pulling over to the side I cut off someone twice, because I pulled to the right lane and slowed down to pull over with a cop behind that slowed traffic I thus cut muliple people off, which was the reason I got pulled over.. Blah.. Cops suck

  • If you watch Fox News, your an idiot sorry. Its the truth, I am a conservative, and its insane, people watch this crap, and go wild. Hypocracy of Fox new is sad, Liberal, Conservative, we need to talk, rationally, and there are two extremes yelling and most of us are in the middle. While Dems or Rep, screw us over in suport for big business. Fox I honestly think is the worst, its horrible.

  • dave pricks lol

  • By the way. The officer asked him out on his porch on purpose. Because he couldn't arrest him in the house. So when the "homeowner" came out on the porch he arrested him for disturbing the peace. See what i'm talking about...

Total bullshit. The cop was playing a revenge game against a cripple. Very big of you mr.officer.

  • I live in Boston and i can tell you these cops are ruthless angry drunks who are mostly sons of the triumphant busing disgrace their forefathers perpetuated upon a bunch of defenseless black school kids. They have no sense what so ever. They are the main reason living in Boston should not cross an out of towners mind planning on living here. They are evil people who don't mind trampling on other races.

Trust me. I am black/irish and i hear them spew their racism everyday like a badge of honor.

  • Typical liberalism. Mr. Dyson doesn't give a real example just If a black man X to a White man then Y. What a crock! Put aside the legalities. Consider, a neighbor reports "two black males with backpacks" trying to gain entry to the home"

(Why is this racial profiling by police?) Do you think it's a good idea to start screaming at the officer who is expecting he just might be walking into a dangerous

situation? Charges were dropped due to explosive race charges not over their validity.

  • @0spiker Ah, but my friend you can yell at the police. That's what makes this America. Never forget; show all people respect, regardless of occupation and that the police work for you, not the other way around

  • @mickeydee23

Ah, but my friend how wise is it to yell at an officer who believes he may be confronting

a dangerous person? Yes this is America, but that doesn't mean check your sense at the border.

  • I don't agree with you on this one. You don't have to be a professor to realize that when cops show up, there is a reason. Every citizen must use his head at times like these. I am white, and I never give anything but quiet respect to police officers, even when I am steaming mad at them. I don't make it worse by acting a fool and giving them an excuse to put me in jail. The professor is the one who behaved "stupidly" and I think Mr. Obama's remark was naked racism.

  • @fliegeroh by your comments you seem afraid of the police, hopefully that's not true. This is America, my friend, not a police state. Yes be respectful, but the police should be Uber respectful and professional...again, they work for you not the other way around

  • Gates looks guilty he should of been deported to africa

  • Hey does anybody know????? Isn't this the child molestation public defender that was fired. The case was aired by fox. Same guy?

  • Jim Crowley: Poster child for keeping Roe V. Wade intact.

  • Obama should have stuck to his guns!! Fuck the HO-lice!! LOL!! They NEED reform!!! They are legalized terrorists, hired to "oversee" the community. He doesn't owe the police shit. He's THEIR chief,NOT the other way around!! White ppl are something else. There is no mountain higher than a white man's pride.

  • I wish that everyone at Fox News would shut the hell up.

  • Dave Briggs makes a valid argument. (But let me call him a hypocrite and hope no one notices that i didn't address his argument because i don't want to admit to myself and the world that Obama made a mistake. Oh, lookie... its Kool-Aide time... gulp, gulp, gulp.)

  • all gates had to do was to keep his mouth shut, but he had to be a dick. he should have been arrested.

  • I totally agree with MR. Paul Crugman

  • China has taken over as the #1 economic superpower and the US will never be the same

  • @davisfleetwood china is superpower b/c we the people buy their made in china crap. STOP IT. Don't buy made in china. Buy used goods. or buy made in ANYWHERE but china. we can't blame this de-industrialization on anyone but ourselves - anyone who goes to wal-eye mart, targ3t, hardware store, clothing store or grocery store & buys made in china are contributing to the destruction of the economy. Just say NO, tell the store "I won't buy made in china" then don't buy.

  • @Marleyites

If America stops buying Chinese goods, China will switch to the Euro and America will turn into a Third World Country. No need for xenophobia, just stating facts.

  • sign the petition re: The Supreme Court decision. visit my page for more

  • Thank You for this analogy much has been noted

  • I got nothing but white people are "evil and will hurt you" off this vid. We are tired of people like you! We are tired of the time we waste trying to educate you and deal with you! Just give up because we aren't.

  • Fuck gates. He deserved what he got.The only reason he behaved the way he did is because he in my opinion hates the police,is racist towards whites himself, and it is likely that gates has been involved in controversy more than once involving race.People like gates full the far left but not normal americans black or white.Although intelligent,Michael Dyson's only gift is he is a fast talker. He is hypocritical, and bias on most issues. He knows how to dodge the issues of the double standard.

  • i got one thing and one thing only to say about this, FUCK THE POLICE!

  • Ya until you need thier help.I say fuck all the criminals.Let there be a shoot on site law.

  • you know, if you speed while driving, you are a criminal, if you dont use your seatbelt..its the same, but its NOT against the law to tell a cop off or even to tell a cop to go fuck themself! unless you are out right threatening a cop you can legally tell them just about anything! I can legally walk up to a cop and say FUCK THE POLICE! I will have more respect for cops when they are less corrupt! I dont respect some small dick ass hole on a power trip!

  • keep saying that when you need their help dick

  • so ya its the polices fault u shoulda known gates was gonna trip he's a educated nigga those types of niggas always thinkin that they are above other niggas and therefore above white hate

  • I slipped up once and called a police officer a fucking Nazi for the State, once. He was pissed and told me to shut up and not say it again, but he also said he was proud to serve the State, so I would say keep your mother shut UNLESS you are friends with the fucking president or ya don't mind going to jail and standing up in court getting laughed at claiming the first amendment. Good luck ! It's wild out there. :) You have to decide for yourself given the situation. //

  • Yeah

    Liberalviewer,

Did you even read the police report?

  • Liberal viewer obviously did not read the police report either given his insinuations that the police officer acted in a racist manner..

  • I know in Tucson, The police are very choosing on who they help and what they go after. They have already humilated youth juveniles who had some mental issues and commited some appearent type of crime by yanking them out in their underwear and forcing other witnessess experiance indecent exposure. Honestly Ive even heard of police comming up to some random people and just frisking them for no reason for 20 mintues straight. But I could be wrong on this I try not to make an effort to get involved

  • LiberalViewer is the MAN. how can a logical mind argue with the facts of this vid? - once upon a time being a police officer was a job seen as something to respect it had stature. sadly b/c of the police nation wide thug like behaviors ,the black community now views them as an occupied force.even the fear of killing a cop is gone from their supposed counterparts in the streets. instead of respect for their control of anarchy, they are seen as just a rival gang ,with more & better weaponry.

  • but are most of the black community thugs

  • superbacon321-I don't clearly understand your comment? it seems like an ignorant question. like if I were to ask, are most white communities KKK? I don't think anyone would make that assumption. perhaps you should get out in & around the country to get a realization to your assumptions? if I'm misunderstanding you, please explain.

  • just look up the black percentage of the bity of detroit and some other high crime cities

  • superbacon321 what about the black percentage? I don't think you realize that your statement can be interpreted in many ways.most literate people end a sentence w/ a question mark, period etc. then, the sentence is understood for your intent. - crime is everywhere youngster. I live in a all white community. my tax $ just built a bigger jail than the huge 1 we had before.crimes on the rise son. lol, not a black face in these jails.did I address your point? good,be sure to try again ok? peace ... X

  • doesnt matter your race, everyone has to do what they said at the end, shutup and do what they say. Some officers are nice, some officers have a stick up their ass and race doesnt always matter. Showing your id is a reasonable request, cops ask a lot of people for it even when they pull you over, dont know the point gates was trying to make in this situation. He wasnt beaten or ne thing.

Now not saying it hasnt or doesnt happen that some arrests are racially motivated either.

  • Way to go Dr. Krugman. My God indeed.

  • Dave Briggs

Is a Asshole.......Thank "GOD" President Obama was there for his friend!!

Conservative Party is a Group of Arrogant Stupid fucks who think they have some ENTITLEMENT RIGHTS!! They are good for Trump up charges against anyone they dislike particularly people of COLOR!!

  • Also, I find it annoying when they pull someone over for something they try to get ID's from everyone in the car. I say I don't have to show you my ID, I am not driving,YES cops can be assholes but we have rights. Yes some try to stomp on our rights, but knowledge is power. So the man was wrong for arresting the guy on is own property. Wrong.

  • In America a policeman works FOR us. He is not allowed to boss you around and make orders. Technically an American can say anything they want (ESPECIALLY on their own front lawn) to a policeman! He did not commit a crime. Cops can only arrest you if you commit a crime. If a neighbor calls the police on me, I tell the policeman "I didn't call you, I want you off my property. I will talk to you on the side walk" and I have never been arrested.

  • @Surrealist6 "police" in united States work for the state corporation, not the people.

  • I don't know about the USA, but here in the UK we have something called "the Public Order act", wherebuy somone who is confrontational to police can get arrested for causing a general desdurbance around the area. And often, I see programs where people get arrested, ticketed or warned for seemingly minor things, but make it worse for themselves by yelling their heads off at a police officer.

However this depends on the exact cercumstances of the incedent.

  • in the video LV explained that even the state says that you must do more than yell to be arrested. all that gates did was yell at the cop. he shouldn't have been arrested.

  • @Nightmare060 I don't think it's possible to be arrested for foul language in the united states

  • @Nightmare060 I agree, but then again you say it at the beginning of your statement "here in the UK"

  • henry louis want arrested because he insulted a cop you idiot he was arrested because he was doing disorderly conduct when a cop tells you to stop yelling and stay in the house and not leave the to go the front porch and yell at the cop YOUR SUPPOSE TO STOP. WHEN THE COP GIVES YOU TWO WARNINGS YOU STOP WHAT YOUR DOING AND OBEY THE OFFICER.

  • Why did Gates have to be such a dick about the situation. If he didn't want to show ID well fine, he didn't have to, but don't follow the cop running your mouth, interfering with his communication with his headquarters, and then cry when you get arrested for it. The situation was over but he couldn't let it go, he just had to get in whiteys face because he's black. Nobody cares that he is black. Sorry bro, being black is not an excuse for bad behavior.

  • No, but within limits.

And no, because policemen, just like you, are humans and humans can make mistakes. If you are not ready to stand up for your rights you wont have them when a mistake is being made.

  • This is a great video! Yes, the issue is fascism / authoritarianism not racism.

It was disappointing to see this issue cast as a racial issue when the police are always violating our constitutional rights via BS charges like Disorderly and Resisting Arrest.

People need to REFUSE to comply with unconstitutional requests! That includes requests for simple information and ID with no lawful justification.

  • do blacks, or any minorities, know how bad it feels for a white person to be called racist simply because of the color of his skin?

  • I never knew that you could insult a cop and not get arrested for that because in the begining of the video you're explain that in order to be arrested for miscounduct you have to do someting saying something just doesnt' cut. So therefor no you don't have to shut up and put up with what the cops say. But one should be smart with what they are going to say. "Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law".

  • this may sound stupid and immature but fuck the police they can ruin someones entire life over basically nothing, and most of them aren't cops to protect and serve they are there because its a job

  • A house full of cops to control a man in his sixties and carrying a cane.Take a look at our third Amendment rights in our nonexistent Bill of Rights.

  • Glad Fox is keeping ya honest!!

  • To LiberalViewer,

    Man you are very eloquent.

  • Disorderly conduct is not about what someone says or does its about the manner in which it is carried out. the arrest was made outside of the home while the officer was leaving after he had made sure Gates home was protected. Gates followed Crowley outside into public view and im pretty sure Gates wasnt calm about what was said

  • But the FOX guy isn't the President. The President cannot be compared to a news/opinion guy.

BTW, I agree with Obama, but he should have kept quiet... 2 different issues here.

I dont like the race card though... I get messed with by cops too and I'm white. Cops are taught to win...

  • well i mean if its millions and millions of cops and only two thousand are racist...thats still alot of racist cops lol , but dont get me wrong some cops are just assholes...

  • MOST cops are just assholes.

  • lol yea...i still havent ran into some..but i heard stories lol..take care bro

  • ITs not that they are assholes in their regular lives, but they are trained to be assholes and to not take any crap. They are trained to think it's them against us... so even the good guys back up the assholes, so they all seem like assholes.

I get messed with by cops, but I never get in trouble cause I let them disrespect me and talk down to me... I ain't getting tasered over a traffic stop, even if they had no reason to pull me over.

  • yea, i mean i never met any asshole officers..but, yea deff just keep your mouth shut and let them do the talking

  • Yea your right. But it seems as if were dealing with a gang of bullies. I mean we all had them in school. We all knew some times it was best to let them talk shit because it wasnt worth getting jumped. But if you had to defend ur self we would. Imagine a gang of bullys to which you CANNOT defend ur self & have a history of beating/harassing/profiling people like you. Not to mention this time its in YOUR house lol. Big difference.

  • Exactly.

Thats why, to me, there are 2 issues here. I agree with what Obama said, but I don't think he should have said it.

    This is a police state...

  • How is it a police state ? and if it is..since when did this happen ?

  • What are we talking about here? A man arrested for being a jerk... sorry, but thats not illegal, and it happens every day. Maybe you want to argue about the exact definition of "police state" but I think you can understand what I am saying. Of course that is just one example (I will list others if you want to claim ignorance...)

Just because there are other countries where it is worse, does mean it isn't happening here.

As for when? I guess since the beginning really.

  • Given your valid argument its understandable how you would consider the US a police state.Given the precedent of racial profiling and harassment toward blk and brown people America always been a police state for some. Black and brown people are pulled over 3x more than whites how ever when searched whites are 4x more likely to actually have drugs in the car. So i agree with you but i dont want anybody getting the impression this is some new shit you dig ? For some its always been this way.

  • I hear you, and I believe it, but...

I can't prove this, but I feel like the more important part about those statistics is social standing. Not race. A way higher percentage of black live in poverty than whites and I would bet that if you just looked at income levels rather than race you would find even more drastic imbalances.

Let me be clear on one thing... I don't think Gates got treated the way he did because of his color. I think it was because he dared to stand up to a cop.

  • Word. But what i want to know is, how in the hell his neighbors not know he lived there? He lives in a nice neighborhood like my self & trust me affluent people ARE nosey. They knew damn good and well that was his house. But agreed i think this had less with colour and more so a "biggest dick" contest with the police. Im not saying colour here is irrelevant but being black NEVER helps when dealing with the police.

90% of wealth is passed on. If we never had it to begin its harder to get period.

  • Well thats why it's such a messed up situation... the neighbors didn't know cause they couldn't see who it was, but didn't seem too worried in the first place. It was precautionary. Then the cops established early on that it was his house (they believed him when he told them).

Then Gates started a pissing contest and the cop abused his power to win when he should have just left.

Gates' only crime was being a loudmouth...which of course isn't a crime.

  • Once Gates showed his ID.. a quick and easy " sorry sir just checking" was in order. I think we forget that the police were working on the assumption that this man was breaking the law because the neighbors were ill informed or not at all. I do realize that the officer was just doing his job but the fact remains that it would have been over with with a quick ID check.

  • that is why we call it is police....they have the permission to arrest....humans make mistakes anyway....that was a bad time for a mistake

  • I agree

  • I definitely agree with the assertion that freedom of speech ought to protect someone from being arrested. However, you have to take into account that the man was yelling at the top of his lungs that the officer was a racist and a number of other false accusations. Therefore, it was not the police officer with the racial issue, it was the man being arrested. Not only that, but all the officer did was ask for the man's identification to prove that it was his house. Is that really too much?

  • this was the one time i agreed with obama ,,,the`cops were stupid....most of the time the police arrest people on stupid made up charges its when a citizen curses at them or questions them. The police think a tazer is a tool to make people Obey. It's a tool to subdue an attacker or an out of control person who is under arrest. Not a citizen who pissed you off. Cops are power mad.

  • Were any of you there to see what really happened?

  • ****CAMBRIDGE IS FULL OF LIARS***

RACISM has played a role in so many aspect of life!! Education, Housing, Employment etc...A week after the Crowley & Gates incident there was another Cambridge incident involving Officer JUSTIN BARRETT who is now facing TERMINATION for posting very offensive racial comments about Prof. Gate caught on tape!! You know what Cambridge Police Dept. is full of Racist Liars..Both Black & White! The saying is say Goodbye to your career!! You're DONE SON!! Good catch!

  • More on these kind of sujects LV, I hope I'm wrong in that these incidents will not start to grow in frequency.

  • Give the cop a break.. He thought he was walking into an active break-in, before he reached the scene you can imagine the emotional and mental preparations he made in his being getting ready for what he may encounter. It turns out he just gets some dude bitching him out while he's in this state of hyper-alertness, of course the cop said "Ok, want to act like a bitch? I'll treat you like one." And that's all that happened. You make it political and retarded, it's just a normal thing

  • WRONG. Listen to the person who reported the "break in" - she clearly said that it might just be person who lived there. Then the cops arrive, ascertain that it is Dr. Gates' home. Surely a cop with Crowley's experience can decompress from his "emotional reaction" by then. If not, then he shouldn't be a cop. PEOPLE CAN ACT LIKE A BITCH IF THEY WANT. It's not against the law. Does a cop have the power to arrest someone who is not breaking a law? NO! This is a CONSTITUTIONAL REPUBLIC.

  • Just another Obama mistake in the last 8 months.

  • Excellent point, LiberalViewer ... nobody is asking the question: "Is this constitutional?" To arrest someone for saying the WRONG WORDS to a cop, WHEN IN YOUR OWN HOME!??!!!

My god. The only question here is whether this is constitutional. Everything else is distraction or diversion. Where is the outrage over arresting someone in their own home, when all they did was speak the wrong words. The lesson here is to do what you're told? Sickening beyond belief.

  • Perfect. 5 stars.

  • That's it, shift blame. Way to go! Let's have no principles whatsoever. Let's focus entirely on who said what rather than what was said.

  • Comment removed

  • Sounds lame, but a horn is only to be used in emergencies. That is the law. You decided to voluntarily break the law in front of a cop on purpose. You have no excuse. I learned about this law in traffic school 25 years ago and never forgot it. Lesson learned, I HOPE!

  • Comment removed

  • I know, but their motto will always be that they are right until you can prove otherwise with your attorney. Oh, and they can do whatever they want until they get caught.

  • Yea sure there are crooked cops, but for the most part they aren't. Be happy they are out there. As far as your ticket goes if you wouldn't have lost your cool and honked your horn at a cop you wouldn't have had to worry about where he wrote you the ticket at. geez, you broke the law and regardless of where you got the ticket it was your fault. Plus it was your stupidity for honking your horn at a police officer, yea that seems like a bright idea.

  • Fuck you and have a great day.

  • Thank you for helping me make my case

  • The cop wa right to ask for the guy's id. Good grief! He was just doing his job!!! Glad Obama recinded his wrong comment here later.

  • He may have been right to ask for the ID, but he was WRONG TO ARREST this man. Whether it's a racial game by the cop, or retaliation for mouthing off, it's WRONG WRONG WRONG.

  • theres a difference in mouthing off and yelling. If you are in a state where you are yelling at someone there is a chance that you could be hostile. I don't see to many people yelling that are in a mellow mood and don't want to jump on someone for something. There is a big difference between using your freedom of speech and losing your cool by yelling at a police officer. The officer was nice enough to ask him to calm down.

  • @ Media Professors: So are you saying it's OK to arrest someone in their own home for "yelling" at a cop? Even if the cop did "ask" him to calm down, it's not against the law to not be calm, or to yell.

You say the copy was "nice enough" to ask him to calm down ... WTF???

This man is in his own home, he's done nothing wrong, it's not against the law to yell, and GUESS WHAT - we don't have to do what the police tell us to do, unless we're under arrest. PERIOD.

    FREEDOM. CONSTITUTION.

  • Obama DID rescind his comments later. Did you see that clip? If one of my neighbors calls the law becuase someone is forcing their way in my house and that person refuses to show their id by golly that cop BETTER arrest that person!!!!

  • I know he rescinded his comment. That's my point. First, he stood up for freedom. It's unlawful to arrest someone who has not broken any laws - no matter how mad you are, in the USA, freedom-loving, patriotic citizens know & believe that we have the right of speech, and right to be free from unlawful search & seizure. Must have probable cause to arrest. Not b/c MAD or b/c someone is a bitch or any other reason. Probable cause. Gates showed the i.d. then mouthed off, then arrested. IT'S WRONG.

  • Yes but the gates did show his id and was still arrested and then had the charges dropped. And if a cop comes into my house because a neighbor calls in a break in and it turns out I just locked my keys in MY HOUSE.And I show him my ID and he still aressts me now that is STUPID

  • I want to know if the neighbor who called the cost dont know who their own neighbor is?

  • @ Combat-vet-lawstudent: Obama was right. It's the only thing I've agreed with Obama - and then he chickened out. If you're a combat vet, supposedly you were in combat to protect the US & our freedoms. And if you're studying law, you'll also realize that Gates did nothing to break any law, nor to give the cop any probable cause that he broke a law or would break a law. Cop wasn't doing his job, he was acting as "enforcer" for those who would have you accept that it's OK for this behavior.

  • It is pretty simple but those who want to see and call the race card cannot not see it for what it is. A person calls the law says someone trying to get in the house whether or not it MAY or may not be the woner. The guy refuses to show his id. The cop HAS to BY LAW , arrest the man! he CANNOT leave a man trying to force his way in a door AND refusing to show his id on a porch after someone calls the cops. PULEEZE! If he left and the house was broken into he could have been sued! It was HIS DUTY

  • This isn't anything about race, it's about the CONSTITUTION. He wasn't trying to force his way in, he was already in the house. Then, Gates showed the I.D. As cops were leaving, Gates mouthed off. Then he was arrested for disorderly conduct. The facts did not fit a disorderly conduct charge, so charges dismissed. Crowley didn't know the law of disorderly conduct? I'm sure he did - he's long-time vet cop. Like many cops today, he arrested as power play, not b/c of law. This not OK, it's WRONG.

  • If there was someone insulting me loudly and in public without any provocation, I would seriously consider of "teaching him a lesson".

What else could Crowley have done? He was being insulted for no good reason. He was only doing his job, yet some guy just starts hurling insults and calls him a racist. I don't blame Crowley.

And yes, it was disorderly conduct by Henry Gates, as he was disturbing the peace. They were dropped because there was no evidence, or were pressured by the media/public.

  • What could crowley have done he could have been proffesional and left the mans house.but instead he used his position of authority to teach gates a lesson. Gates did not break any laws.If he was screaming at the top of his lungs in HIS house at worst it would be a noise ordinace violation not disordly conduct. The cop was stupid and abusing his postion of authority and we should all be against that.

  • Screaming and throwing insults after being asked to stop IS disorderly conduct, and Gates did it outside in public. And Gates was outside his house when he was arrested. You should inform yourself.

  • Outside his house is still his property.I also have not heard anyone claim that the neighbor clompained about noise at any time.If this was lets say billy ghram or tom delay being arrested by a black cop for the same shit you know the right wing would go absolutly ape shit. And bush would have had the damn cop thrown in gitmo not just said it was stupid.Obama hasent tried to get the cop fired or anything infact he has been pretty dam cordule about the whole thing.

  • Crowley did leave after Gates showed his ID. Gates followed him outside and continued his aggression. When he stepped out in public is when he started violating the disorderly conduct. You wouldnt tolerate someone talking to you like that. Disorderly conduct is not about what is said and done but the manner in which it is carried out

  • Wow

It's as if you were there!!

It's clear you are extremely biased!!

  • @Marleyites I know this is old, but u were wrong about pretty much everything u have on there.

  • HE DID SHOW HIS ID.that negates your whole argument.

  • See this is part of what is wrong with this country everyone who is honest on this issue including the officer in his police rport state that he DID SHOW HIS ID. but some fox news croney leaves that out of the arguument because that way its supports their anti obama predispotion. And now we cant have a real argument on the topic because half the country thinks Suddam Hussign was responsible for 9/11. GOD HELP US

  • Well media does misrepresent things butI watched the officer say what his positioin was. Both gates and the cop have public professinoal roles that are models to younger generation...BOTH have a responsibility to act like mature adults. Gates innocent and teh cop not? THAT idea is WRONG WRONG WRONG. Oh and marleites it IS about the constitutiion....the neighbirs had constitution right to QUIET and NOT have to listen to an irate man yelling and saying ugly things to a cop called doing his duty.

  • He did show his ID.

  • im going to a 350$ dollar drug class for going to a park bathroom at 2 am. Fuck the police

  • @dehdehsac: you might want to read my other comments about this - and it boils down to power & money. The more power they gain, the more money they can extort, as you've seen first-hand. Arresting people in their own homes, with NO PROBABLE CAUSE of crime, is WRONG - ILLEGAL - AGAINST THE CONSTITUTION. And, that the president originally stood up for this illegal action, but then switched sides, this should alarm every single freedom-loving US citizen. WE MUST STOP THIS MADNESS!

  • The police officer did the right thing. That fake affirmative action professor was just mad cause this guy didn't know who he was. He blew it up bigger than it really was. But when has liberal viewer been correct?

  • So the Police were right for arresting him for what reason? If they were right why did they drop the charges?

  • FUCK DA POLICE

    PORT LIFE 44 ALL DAY

    FUCK nc

    FUCK 54

  • YES There white and black cops was there to arrest him. He wouldn't yelling at cops. Cops tried made him calm down Why He wouldn't listen to what cops tried to telling then arrest him. He is stupid should shut up and be nice to cops. Why cops have hard time a million crime in the damn in USA. That why Cops can't handle with the damn crime. If would be nice to cops then would be nice then you are welcome and frined with cops that is all what I think. If keep rude to cops you are in trouble.

  • There is a polite way that Gates could have dealt with the police officers: calmly explaining what he was doing and providing proof that he lived there. Then the police would have said they were sorry to have bothered him and left. Dragging race into the case by Gates (when the police were merely investigating a report by a concerned neighbor who did not even know the race of the people "breaking in") was irrelevant. Gates should have controlled his temper and calmly dealt with the police.

  • I don't see no racism in there AT ALL! Those cops were ordered there by some woman, they arrive and get yelled at and then overreacted! We're all just human beings, nobody of us is perfect!

  • Realistically? In large cities even when race isn't a factor (which it often is[retired police officers here have admitted]) police brutality is a constant. You should know when to avoid confrontation (even if you've done no wrong) because they will brutalize you, and the Police Department will back them up. If you don't have video evidence, witnesses, and a lot of money for bribes, the police will get away with it.

People here usually know better so usually yes, shut up and wait....

  • Is it right? No!

But this wont be fixed by getting yourself arrested over nothing, and having no support to back you up. So for now... I stand by my statement, sometimes you just have to play dead or run off so that you can lick your wounds later and come back with change.

  • Yelling at a police officer is a crime now?

Usually they'll just arrest you for some made-up bullshit charge when you yell at them, rather than just arresting them for "being rude".

  • Fantastic video

  • No one should be arrested for their right of free speech. The Constitution has been violated by those on power trips. However, who allows the power trips to continue? Do we? Perhaps.

  • RIGHTFULLY

The professor should not have been arrested.

    ACCORDING TO THE LAW

The police should have arrested him.

The problem is NOT the police officers' activity. It is the laws themselves.

But Obama should have never spoken out against the police officers. They acted exactly as they are supposed to, regardless of how much the laws may infringe on one's rights today.

  • But what law did he break?

  • Criticizing a police officer or some bullshit like that.

  • lol yeah that is not a law... he didnt break any laws thats why they let him go

  • No, there actually are tons of bullshit laws about respecting a police officer.
