  • Wheres Weekend at Bernies?

  • Whilst I don't agree with a lot of what you included, I'm not going to argue. You've really composed a great list here.

  • Vertigo, Citizen Kane & The Godfather are true classics

  • An excellent list. I like that this list doesn't really resemble the AFI's 100 Movie List, nor does it look like They Shoot Pictures' list. It's a very unique list but still manages to be a very good representation of great movies.

  • 12 angry men, On the waterfront, Forbidden planet, The ten commandments, The good the bad and the ugly, the thomas crown affair the list goes on.

  • @TheTmny876able 12 angry men, on the waterfront and the good the bad and the ugly are in the top 150, but don't think forbidden plant or the thomas crown affair made the top 1000!

  • Wonderful movies and beautiful choice of music. Very very moving. Thanks and please never take down this wonderful montage. =)

  • jolly good list this, bloody hell

  • Play it, sam...

  • Apocalypse now! best war movie, by miles..

  • good list, i wish shaw shank made it in the top 30, but i understand why it didn't; BEAUTIFUL FILM! but it didn't contribute anything to films; all of the films mentioned in the top 30 did something for the first time/something unique that has impacted the way we watch films (don't know how Sergio's Leone's "Once upon A Time in America" did anything...great film though).

  • I was surprised by some exclusions (such as Gone With The Wind, Jaws and Rear Window) but overall it was a good list.

  • Apocalypse now is my personal favorite, a true piece of art.

  • wheres bad boys 2? lol. just trollin.

  • Once Upon A Time In America - greatest masterpiece of all time!

  • this is an excellent list. just excellent.

  • Vertigo over Psycho? By what criterion? And 2001 before The Third Man? How pretentious. By any standard, Shawshank must be in any top 10. What is moviemaking all about anyway? Artistic shots or entertaining the public? Some Like It Hot not in any top 20? Bolloc......

  • @sfukridge The list was compiled from the results of a poll for visitors to our website. If you dislike the result then feel free to submit your own 100 greatest list to be included in the 2011 list. The link to the website is below the video.

  • @sfukridge Your opinion is valid but you have to take any movie list with a pinch of salt. After all how do you really quantify how good a film is? How would really decide that psycho is definitively better than vertigo. All of these films are brilliant, my favourites being andrei rublev, fanny och alexander and otto e mezzo

  • @sfukridge Its a good list. He recognises the classics and the order is up to him. Vertigo is better than Psycho by the way. I love Shawshank but it is not better than any of the top 10 in that video.

  • @sfukridge what a load of bull shit

  • @sfukridge Please chill hater and realize that any sort of taste is absolutely individual matter. Me personally would put Ghost Dog the way of the Samurai in top 10 and Vertigo wouldn't make even top 20..........anyways i think this was very well put together and the pendragon certainly can appreciate good movies..........Peace:)

  • I'm sure I'm not the only one who got chills watching this. Watching this video makes me think to myself... Even if the world has stopped making truly GREAT movies, we've been given all the movies we may ever need.

  • This list is bullshit. Not a single Chuck Norris or Van Damme film in there.

  • @cromlek hey i heard the hamburglur is coming out with a new western

  • Outstanding!!!!! The choice of movies & music exquisite. Thank you.

  • Best movie list on youtube

  • soo jew

  • Wow, this was really a well thought out list. I've only seen about half of these movies, but I love most of the ones I have seen. There's a few I could think of to put on here (Such as Scarface and The Big Lebowski and a few others) but that's just my opinion. Nice list.

  • @HaggardNaggar i echo big lebowski, i really think it's the funniest film ever made

  • yuo pretty good list.my only major gripe is that there's nothing by visconti-one of his must be in top 30 as theyre all epic

  • @nino222221 He has been rather overlooked in this poll. The Leopard was the highest at 126.

  • Comment removed

  • seven samurai should be number 1

  • well thought out list but Seven Samurai should be number 1 and Godfather part two ahead of its original

  • Wow.. can't believe Vertigo is ranked #3. x)

  • citizen kane should be number one, or 8 1/2. i will stand by that until i die

  • pulp fiction is so yawn

  • Beautiful opening music choice...just....Beautiful!

  • Beautiful Opening Music Choice. Just.....Beautiful!

  • where is the tune from, it sounds all to familiar

  • @kingcaesar5 The opening music is from the soundrack for 'Road To Perdition'

  • i know the penultimate track is deborah's theme but it doesn't sound the same as the one from the once upon a time in america soundtrack. where did you get that from?

  • @garfrain can't remember exactly! Your right it did not come from the soundtrack. I think its a version from a special Morricone CD.

  • The Godfather is No1?? a masterpiece yes...but honestly! and singin in the rain surpases Dr Strangelove?? mmm...not very good, though I will se the films I haven't on the list. I agree about Andre Rubliof though...

  • @Phersephoie The Godfather wouldn't have been my number 1 either, but the list has come from a website pole.

  • @thependragon81 I know, no blame on you ;) still the list misses a lot

  • Rocky would definitely have to make my own personal Top 30. The story, film score, and cinematography are amazing. Also would need to have Goodfellas in there too.

  • Wow, this is a fantastic list. Well done. I would have liked to see Andrei Rublev in the top 10, but I'm just glad it's recognized, even in the top 25. Is Come and See (Idi i Smotri) in any of the other parts of this list?

  • @mysticblade35 Come and see is 58th and on part 2

  • gay movies

  • Pulp Fiction is overrated. Other than that: good list.

  • this is by far the best movie list i've ever seen, seeing once upon a time in the west, touch of evil, once upon a time in america, barry lyndon, a matter of life and death along with the likes of citizen kane, 8 1/2 and the godfather is where they should be

  • No the Matrix, silence of the lambs, Raiders of the lost ark, Jaws, Terminator 2, Terminator and Reservoir Dogs and alot of others

  • Well if it was a poll for the most entertaining movies, I daresay some of those might get into the top 30.

  • @peterpetrelli45 movie lists can't satisfy everyone, this is the best one i've seen in line with my own personal taste

  • Comment removed

  • Now this IS a great list. There are a lot missing, like Manhattan, The Seventh Seal or A Clockwork Orange but what your gonna do.

  • see part 2 for seventh seal and clockwork orange.

  • Oh thanks Youre right.

  • @carmaj156 seventh seal and a clockwork orange are in part 2.

  • Finally, someone on Youtube who knows great movies.

  • What's the music playing in the backrgound??

  • Music - The main theme to Road to Perdition by Thomas Newman (not sure of the exact name), Blade Runner music by Vangelis, We'll Meet Again sung by Vera Lynn, Nemo Egg (Main Title) by Thomas Newman, The End by The Doors, Intermezzo from Cavalleria rusticana by Pietro Mascagni, Human Nature by Eric Serra, Debra's Theme by Ennio Morricone, Thus Spake Zarathustra by Richard Strauss, the final theme is from The Godfather 3 soundtrack but not sure of actual name.

  • Is there a way to view part 1 of this video?, it's blocked in the US and would really like to see it.

  • While Youtube does not allow me to post the actual link if you type in 'greatest films' in photobucket video search, it should come up.

  • Umm, you forgot some:

    Oceans eleven

    The Green mile

    The Prestige

    3:10 to Yuma

    Lucky number Slevin

  • I'm not sure that oceans eleven or lucky number slevin even reached the top 1000. Other three are great films.

  • a few surprises here, no thrid man, some like it hot, the searchers, city lights, psycho, sunrise, the passion of joan of arc, la dolce vita, the general and sunset blvd.

But 12 angry men places at 618th????

i hope that in the future it cracks atleast the top 100, it's my second favorite movie of all time

  • If u watch part one you'll find most of those films between numbers 31-60. Third Man is 26th. The 2010 list is currently being published and I can say that 12 Angry Men is at least in the top 400.

  • Oh, Baby Boomers.

  • Roy Batty's speech is my favorite moment of cinema.

  • Good job thependragon81... it's a daunting task; a tough job to narrow them all down. You did it as well as I believe anyone could, although we'd all do it different....... I think the average would come out to about what you have....... thanks.

  • What about Ferngully?

  • Once upon a time in America #1

    Godfather Part II #2

    Sleepers #3

    Amadeus #4

  • citizen kane > godfather

  • I wasn't watching it possibly well, but I didn't see 12 Angry men.

  • Shockingly it was only placed 618th!

  • i agree almost completly with your list . where would you place the following

    badlands

    american beauty

    the silence of the lambs

  • From the poll Badlands was placed 141st, American beauty 200 and Silence Of The Lambs 241. Personally I would place Badlands much higher as its a significant film in so many respects and I think American Beauty has some great moments.

  • A fine list!!! A lot of those I still have to see but they have been often praised as great films!!!! Great job!

    Godfather = BEST MOVIE EVER.

  • I would love to upload lists like this. What does it take to do something like this? Which editing system do you use? How do you get the clips? Is there something in the editing system that allows you to record the section of the clips from the DVD?

If you want to call me a techno-ignoramus, go ahead, though I honestly don't know and have been meaning to learn.

  • Most of this was done using windows movie maker which is simple to use. The clips come from a variety sources, but you can just download youtube clips using voobys or download generally from metacafe. There are also plenty of classic scenes that can be downloaded with rapidshare.

  • 1-LOTR Return of the King

    2-LOTR Two Towers

    3-LOTR Fellowship of the Ring

    4-Gladiator

    5-Saving Private Ryan

My oppinion and I also liked Hitman.

  • If it was best films of the last decade I think you would not be far wrong.

  • Also Metropolis has to be there.. Anyway at the end of it all.. still a great effort..everybody's list varies

  • Metropolis only 186th, I would say it should be more top 50.

  • Hey your top 30 does not contain ... 'le enfants du paradis' or children of paradise... it should be there in the top 30.. also.. 'Stalker' has to be there.. no movies of kieslowski?? No movies of Abbas Kiarostami, Hu Hsiao Hsien, Tsai ming Liang, Majid Majidi, Jafar Panahi, Wong kar wai, .. well.. well.. I guess you haven't seen enough of east european and asian films

  • Stalker 98th (a generous placing), Children of paradise only 138th. See part 1 and 2 for Kieslowski & Wong Kar Wai. While I have seen many of the films on the full list the results are from a poll and not my personal choices.

  • where's The Shining!!!!!!!!

  • It was placed 136th!

  • what is the piece of music playing during the clip of once upon a time in america?

  • It is the main theme from Road to Perdition by Thomas Newman.

  • Great list. It's impossible for everyone to share the same opinion for 1st place! I think thependragon81 has created an excellent list of movies that most of us love.

  • i love some of the instrumental music... brings back some memories. thanks!

  • Citizen Cane > Godfather

  • hell yeah it does

  • oh my! where is "good fellas"

  • See Part 1

  • by the way, where´s bergman?

  • Watch part 1, - The Seventh Seal (33), Fanny And Alexander (37)

  • i think i´ll never understand the greatness of the godfather. i certainly believe it´s a great one....but i don´t know, there´s something that probably i don´t get from the film so i may consider it as number one. In my opinion, "once upon a time in america" is much better than coppola´s work. For me, 2001 should be the first one. that movie is years ahead from the rest.

  • Seven samurai for me should be first. Watch Kyuzo and Kikuchiyo (Mifune) characters. Poetic.

  • Andrei Rublev should be in the Top 10.

  • You must love blade runer. That movie looked nice but sucked!

  • Deadman?

  • Glad you put in aguirre and bladerunner. Mulholland drive?

  • Mulholland Dr (601)

  • Stalker(Andrei Tarkovsky),The Good,the Bad and the Ugly,Sunset Blvd. and Some Like It Hot(Billy Wilder),,Bonnie and Clyde(Arthur Pen),nothin by Fritz Lang,Francois Truffaut,Jean-Luc Goddard,Robert Bresson,Carl-Theodor Dreyer,Luis Bunuel,Luchino Visconti,Robert Altman,Roberto Rosselini,Alain Resnais.However,the films listed are very good,most of them deserves their places.

  • Stalker (98), The Good, the bad and the ugly (86), sunset blvd (68) and some like it hot (66) all made the top 100. As for the directors, Traffaut, Godard, and Dreyer each have 2 films in the top 100 and Altman has 1.

  • pretty damn accurate, although Taxi Driver should be a bit higher up

  • I've seen every single film on this list and I can assure you this indeed is a great list-- many of the best.. all though my personal list would be a bit different in order

  • Great list.

  • good list the pendragon81. Citizen Kane and the Godfather will probably always be ranked in the top ten.

  • I've only seen two movies on this list.

  • Man, I haven't seen 10 of the movies on this list. They look pretty good.

  • Comment removed

  • hey thependragon81 what is the music playing from 30-18?

  • The main theme from 'Road To Perdition'

  • Hey good choice of music. I also did a film slideshow with that theme, I just don't know how to upload it. It says its the wronf format.

  • What software are using?

  • Can you name me, in order, all the themes used in the slideshow? Some I know, some I don't.

I admire the fact that there are 3 Kurasawa films here. Although I think Kagemusha is missing. I caught a tear after the musket salvo in the battle of Nagashino. Damn sad and magnificent. And the movie was extremely good as a whole.

  • Kagemusha only placed 211!

Music - The main theme to Road to Perdition by Thomas Newman (not sure of the exact name), Blade Runner music by Vangelis, We'll Meet Again sung by Vera Lynn, Nemo Egg (Main Title) by Thomas Newman, The End by The Doors, Intermezzo from Cavalleria rusticana by Pietro Mascagni, Human Nature by Eric Serra, Debra's Theme by Ennio Morricone, Thus Spake Zarathustra by Richard Strauss, the final theme is from The Godfather soundtrack but not sure of actual name.

  • 67th for one flew over the cuckoo's nest?? wow that's low.

  • i know! It should be in the 20's atleast

  • i think the one that really got my attention was the tears in rain bit from blade runner, might be just me but i found that to be one of the best and rather touching scenes in cinematic history

  • how can gone with the wind not make this list? or the sound of music. this list isn't that great i don't think

  • Gone with the wind was 97th, which is not bad for an overly long piece of American melodrama and I don't think that the Sound of Music even finished in the top 500.

  • Brilliant selection, Thanks.

  • robert de niro is in 4 of these movies and was the main character in 3 and one was a supporting actor and won an academy award for best supporting actor in godfather part 2 and an academy award for best leading actor in raging bull... he really is one of the if not the greatest actor ever

  • 1 flew over the cuckoo's nest?

  • That was placed 67th.

  • Thanks.

    What's the last?

  • you havnt seen the shawshank redemption have you

  • Shawshank was actually placed 38th on the list and I think its a brilliant piece of hollywood entertainment.
