  • I am Chinese but I dont know how to play lol

  • uMadBro?

  • @keepaopenmind what do you mean xiangqi is close to the original game? i believe you mean CHESS is close to the original game (xiangqi). Xiangqi came out about 1000 years before chess get your facts right

  • so in essence, tactics are very strong in chinese chess compared to international chess. Where playing a good positional chess yields more success.

  • Nub... who oso noe this... ==''

  • U got alot of videos

  • I think you should better buy a new one, instead of using that brown piece of thing to replace the rook.

  • Rofl my friend and I call it tank, horse, elephant, body guard, king, cannon, pawn

  • GO vs Chess / Xiangqi / Shogi ...

so computers can beat human in chess-like games (maybe even GO in the next 300 years)

but why does that matter? people won't stop bodybuilding or weightlifting just because machines are better. after all its just a game that trains your mind and calculation.

"There is no superior game, only better player."

  • @hk92jimmy, go will probably be beaten in the next 10 years, given the rate of improvement in computer technology we have seen. western chess will probably be beaten too (and faster), and I believe that, with perfect play, most of these games end in draws (unless a stalemate counts as a win). of course, that's not very relevant for beginner/intermediate players, but it is for grandmasters with huge memorization.

  • Thats why computer can not estimate taht, only human brain can....cause each peice is equal... there are no value for it....we value the piece (player) which makes it hard

  • the human brain is pretty much a very bad computer. a chess program doesn't play chess like a human, it has databases and formulas, etc etc. go just has a level of complexity that is beyond modern computer's brute force methods (checking all possible moves). if you could make a go program use typical grandmaster line of thinking, it'd be good, but only in the situations you programmed it for. it doesn't have human learning and inventiveness (yet). also no "psychological" game ;)

  • @AshesWasHerName so has anyone ever beaten the computer yet?

  • @Iamatheist1234, which one? there's one invincible computer program that plays checkers and is invincible. checkers is therefore a solved game. I think it's called apache. as for chess, modern programs are much better than humans but aren't exactly invincible.

  • @AshesWasHerName o i meant deep blue, but i bet computer is a lot better now so maybe i should ask has anyone ever beaten the best computer on chess yet?

  • @Iamatheist1234, kasparov beat it in 1996, but in 1997 he lost a six-game match by 2-1. there were three draws. the best computer nowadays is, I think, Rybka. however, no longer do we pit humans against computers. the humans would be completely torn asunder.

  • @AshesWasHerName I see, thank you for sharing. (:

I mean, computer calculates billion steps in a second(the best ones) n have no emotional issues, how can humn possibly beat the computer , what do we have that give us the edge in chess play?

  • @Iamatheist1234 We can evaluate positions better.

  • @Averagebum2 meaning....? sry i have a chicken brain.

  • @Iamatheist1234 No you don't. What I meant was that humans can judge the quality of a position more accurately than computers. Also, humans can plan ahead. Computers can only crunch lines to see which lines produce a better-looking position.

  • @Averagebum2 oic, well can't computers plan ahead too? i mean they can calculate the possible outcome of every step it takes right?

  • @Iamatheist1234 They can see possible outcomes, but can they judge those outcomes accurately? Because we can change strategy, we can outwit them based on the computer's programmed knowledge. Someday, if computers are taught to evaluate positions strategically with the same amount of strength as a world class player, and taught to change strategy through adaptation, they could be better. We already have programs that learn and adapt.

  • @Averagebum2 so it is still possible for a human to beat a computer at this point?

  • @Iamatheist1234 Certainly...all the time. But if humans play carelessly, the computer will surely win, since it never makes tactical mistakes. Search and read the book "A Psychiatrist Pits His Wits Against Fritz".

Even I have beat several different programs.

  • ADD one more... when u capture one big territory in go.. it doesnt mean u win... the region might backstab u back.. and result a fail...

There are lots of battle going on......but once u win in an region doesnt mean is check mate... but.....it might or might not result a loss if u make the oppennet's development become stronger

  • Is because you havent try Go!

I play chess for 6 years , and kind of a pro... i charge 11$ a hour....eventhough chess is an amazing game...but seroiusly, once u touch go...u will want to quite chess.....thats my experience btw...

And alot player quite go because it is too complicated.... if u can conquer the first step... u will find out go is soo much fun....

i wish i can teach go... honestly.. but i am not htere yet....

  • i think chinese chess has more variety of taking the piece, while english chess requires you to be more observant.

  • I used to LOVE playing Chinese chess back in 1994, when my Kung Fu sifu gave me a set to "learn strategy" for myself. I played a lot of it with my cousin that spring.

I still have the set, but I haven't played it since then...I need to learn again.

  • LOL. I won once by being crazy with the cannon, or (Pao) and then I took out the Rook. And then I won.

  • @Crzynoob thats because your opponent isnt good. No offence though :)

  • ...racist...

  • What is that brown thing..

  • its a rook

  • is that date or plumb? this video is ghetto and disrespectful to xiangqi. come on man you can at least get a decent board!

  • YAY, ive done about 20 mach just for this strategy!!!,

  • lol at the stone for his missing chariot

  • he means tat we nid to move out all our pieces as soon as possible

  • ...

    I don't get it..

Which piece does what? Is it like 'american chess' ?.. Which pieces are what? x_x

  • ya it like american chess you kill the king or at least corner him

execpt no queen no bishop and new piece is a cannon (during like the age of gunpowder when the cannons and musket teer's and stuff is when this game was created)

  • no shit it's not english chess.

it says "chinese chess" in the title, dumbass.

  • Can you do castling in Chinese chess?

  • no you cant. the king must stay in the 3x3 palace

  • No castling allowed. The king can't leave the marked area in the center.

  • Thanks for good tip!

  • Xiangqi is a very interesting form of chess. It's probably close to the original game. I like it because there's no queen, no pawn chain, lots of tactics, hand to hand fighting all over the board. Not for weakies.

  • @keepaopenmind well your a weaky once so you dun play it?

  • @keepaopenmind Everything you just stated why you think chess has less tactics are the things that make chess more tactical than this.

  • @kikook222 Well, give Xiangqi a try and see for yourself. Both are very tactical, but it seems to me Chinese Chess is more of an open battle. Easy to penetrate the opposing forces. The king is more restricted and more easily mated. Actually, I didn't say regular chess is less tactical. But now that you mention it, yeah, I'd say it is.

  • @kikook222

It's not that International chess is less tactical, it's the fact that to excel in international chess, you have to understand positions. since playing tactically is very difficult for the human mind. This is because international chess is less suited as a tactical game. There is a reason why a computer can beat the top player in international chess, but not in Chinese chess. Because there are more possibilities, and moves, making it much more tactical.

  • you dare insult with that kind of grammar?

  • Dumbshit. It's more complex than your "American" version. This one has more strategies, and harder to win. And the units are actually limited to where they can go. It makes it more challenging. Man so many people who don't try new things.....

  • "american version"? u r so fool.. if u dont know the history of chess, dont speak...

  • I'm going to have to disagree with you about western chess being less complex. Both chinese chess and western chess are incredibly complex games. I don't think you can say one is more complex then the other. The way you have to think, and a lot of the strategy is the same. Both versions of chess came from the same original game created in india some time around 700 AD.

  • @lewiszim I would say the western chess is more complex for me. I played both kinds, and found chinese chess easier

  • Thats interesting. To me chinese chess feels harder. This is probably due to the fact that I've played western chess my whole life and so I am very familiar with it, where as chinese chess I learned more recently.

  • I just learned it recently and played my dad and beat him(who also learned it recently), we both thought it took a little less strategy than regular chess, until i went online and played and got steamrolled into the ground lol

  • the game of "Go" is way more complex since it is the last human refugee.... Computer can not beat human...

Because everymove can effect whole board...; golbal warming on go board happens alot.. Like chess and chinese chess.... Rook has higher vaule than pawns...over all, go start with everything equal.... a

it is like a world war... and chesss and chinese chesss is like a regional war....

No offense btw.... it is my opinion

  • Just because computer programs are not as good at go does not mean that go is a more complex game. In chess every move does affect the game, some more then others. I may not study go like I do chess but having played the game I would have to argue that this is also true of go. You say go is a bigger war, but how is it any bigger then chess? Sure there are more squares but the strategy is no more advanced.

  • @filmfactory2

According to chinese legends, Go is a game invented by the deities and is a gift to humans.
