USB is no music standard. Midi is. With the E403 only having USB you can't connect it to other gear like Synthesizers or Expanders. You always need a PC for it.

Midi connect with both, pc and musical stations. You just need the cables. I, for exemple, have a interface midi-usb to connect de keys to the pc. Midi is faster than USB, cause it use a diferent mode of transmission - FPT. When you are reconding or doing something like that on pc, sometimes you play in the keys or in the instrument and the sound takes 0.5 seconds, more and less, to get the columns. Midi is diferent than USB also because of that.
