from Scar Tissue by Anthony Kiedis "I also heard about the interviews that John was giving journalists extolling heroin use. He'd even shoot up during interviews.I wasn't interested in reading that stuff or looking at the film.I didnt listen to his solo records at the time.I couldnt celebrate his lifestyle because it seemed like he was killing himself..so i didnt look ati it like other people might:oh hes a genious it ok. i didnt care if he was a genius or a fucking idiot, he was rotting away"
some years ago john was just a guy who wanted to be like jimmy hendrix, he was crazy, this guy can be too, and john is happy now, adiction was dificult but today he is the most happy person in the world, it was good to him, and he says it for everyone
the most fucked up thing is, you will pass 10 John Frusciante's on your way to work and say what a useless piece of shit who doesn't contribute to society'blah blah blah, but if he has a name for himself, he instantly becomes a misunderstood artist who doesnt fit into our society because he is to brilliant.
@JuliusGulius generally speaking, i don't think people "misunderstand" heroin addicts, and to act like it's the fault of other people for not being interested in people who like getting fucked up is kind of weird. i guess if he was like autistic or deformed or something, your point would make sense. you're acting like addicts have no responsibility regarding their alienation
@nickypeeps you couldn't have misunderstood my point more, I wasn't saying that people misunderstand heroin addicts, I was saying that it's pathetic how people generally only feel sorry for the famous ones, also addicts don't use drugs to get fucked up, they use drugs to escaped their fucked upness......... that's a word I swear.
@JuliusGulius aside from what a bat shit crazy example that is for presenting addict behavior, i don't care any more or less about the story of a drug addict than i do the story of anyone else. it's just the romanticized image of the self destructive genius wasting their talent, but it's kind of a cliche. sometimes it's true, but i can only imagine, statistically, there are more people living in homes with jobs that are wasting their talents
@JuliusGulius and "autistic or deformed" just meant being alienated by something you had nothing to do with. having a physical drug dependency being forced upon you by someone injecting you with heroin against your will would fall into that category. even still, the idea of using that as the reason for never quitting until you die if you wanted to quit would be weird, too. it would only make sense if no one has ever quit doing heroin before
@nickypeeps what I'm saying is every addict has a story of how they got to that point in their life. and that even the ones that just made a stupid decision and their problem is self inflicted they still deserve our sympathy and help, if john wasn't famous and he was on the streets begging for change allot of the people that are commenting saying how torn up they are seeing john like this and how much they feel for him might walk past him and call him a dirty bum
@nickypeeps my original comment was to basically tell everyone commenting on how sad this is, that if you feel for john and would be willing to help him, there are millions of johns out on the streets that could use your help, and also I don't think you really understand addiction, for addicts living on the street the choice of quitting seems like an illusion to them and they don't have money to get into the betty ford center, nobody gives a shit about them, the government sure as hell doesn't
@JuliusGulius so you just wait for someone to help you until you die? i'm just saying that's a terrible plan, and isn't the only option for at least a lot of them. it's just the least incredibly hard one
@nickypeeps your'e absolutely right, it isn't the only option for any of them, that's the peculiar thing about addiction, most of them do die, the success rate is so low, and they do have options but they don't think logically, or what we define as logic, even if they had the option of help.
@nickypeeps A friend who has gone threw the ringer told me, being addicted to drugs is like being in Antarctica and you are staying warm from a fire, and when the fire starts to dwindle, you get cold and start to suffer, so you add more wood, the wood in this metaphor is drugs, then you get warm again, and every time you want to quit you stop doing drugs, or stop adding wood and you start to suffer and feel pain, and it's a total catch 22
@JuliusGulius i don't know why you're under the impression that i'm saying it isn't hard to quit addictions, but i assume it has something to do with why you thought you needed to point out what the wood was in your metaphor
@nickypeeps it has to do with you saying that addicts are "people who like getting fucked up " and that gives me the impression that you don't completely understand addiction
Sorry, but if you watch the whole interview, all the 6 parts of the VPRO interview, u could say that he is speaking quite wisely right there. He looked a bit fucked up, but he still was the real John Frusciante.
@MrEddrox it was mainly heroin, but it was more than heroin......so sad. man, he really cheated death. he's such a genius musician. it would've been such a tremendous loss for music.
@KamikazeProd Yeah, this guy is my hero. You can tell that he and flea have a connection, it's what made the peppers so awesome. He definately deserves his own shot at going solo though.
@ggrady87 Actually, he left the band both times. The first time, because he was uncomfortable with the fame and he and Anthony butted heads a lot up until he left. The most recent time because he wants to do his own thing with his solo albums. He's also married now. The Peppers never kicked him out. He left.
Another thing....as much as I love John and his work...when he said "movie scripts" and then turned to a page scribbled with, as best i can make out, "so me think oughta know a lady a name in her die her dick enemy water saw many other energies have always watched other days eat gain" I couldn't help but laugh very much out loud. That sure would be an interesting movie. :) Again, not making fun...but it is funny. John sure loved that Beat-era stream of consciousness writing :)
anyone who loves his music should be immensely happy to see him alive and healthy now...plus, he's more creative now than ever. but, there's something about that draw to the dark side that is so seductive to creative people. it's interesting. he'd be the first to admit to that, im sure. that thing he said about reading about bowie and other 603/70s musicians taking drugs when you yourself are out, to live vicariously through them..totally have done that. weird times. :/ happy he's doing well now
Kinda pitiful to see him like this. The good thing is that this isn't the last way we saw him. The nice thing is that he didn't die from his addiction. It's pretty inspiring.
@oOFirefaceOo yea some drugs are....remember they are all VERY different in their effects. He was def. on a mixture of heroin and coke here. Stay away from certain drugs and you'll be ok. Smoking weed and a few others in moderation are ok though.
Makes me sad seeing him this way but I'm thankful he was strong enough to get himself together. He might be high but he's very sincere and honest. I know he never cared for the spotlight but his music is a gift to everyone and will continue to be.
I wish Kurt Cobain would've pulled through his depression and addiction like John did. Can you imagine? Nirvana only had 3 albums....Just imagine what could've been...or Shannon Hoon from Blind Melon....or Layne Staley....God, I really could keep going.
@TheGroumpfy Nirvana saved the world from shitty fake hair band glam metal BS. Kurt's songwriting is so witty, clever, sarcastic, funny so I'm partial to them but to each his own
@TheDunkaccino yeah, but kurt thought his music was getting repetitive and felt he was being fake. so even if he was still alive, he probably wouldn't be making music
