The good ol' wushu vs. traditional debates... Traditional Ying Jao Pai and Wushu are different. Yeah there's many philosophical and physical similarities and overlaps but they ARE different enough to classify as separate styles. As a student of only traditional kung fu including ying jao pai I think wushu is highly respectable and in no ways superior or inferior, just different. But as in all things it comes down to the individual student and their development, style isn't really relevant.
I think they should call this one the dancing eagles claw :) I mean there are defence and attack in the moves, but still. I'm more of a southern eagles clawer myself. I like the 3 finger and knuckle technique best. but still awesome work. and ofc the classic fu tune :D
I'm aware that "Wushu = martial arts". I used it, as it IS a common term for MODERN chinese martial arts, after the ban of traditional MA in China. And I never critisized his skill as a martial artist, there's no need to be immature. All I'm pointing out is that this isn't Ying Jow Pai, it just imitates the "look" of an eagle.
Hnn, aren't the animal styles SUPPOSE to imitate the 'look' and spirit of their corresponding animals in the first place? I think a few people are too hung up on what is 'traditional' and what is 'modern' to really concentrate on learning what is there in front of them. This might not be as 'traditional' as one might like but denying that it is 'genuine' Eagle Claw because of it... 'Eagle Claw' is a label given to a series of specific momvements - performed fast or slow - the art depends on you.
If anything, modern wushu is better than traditional. With traditional - so called traditional - you get weak forms plus really weak applications, and they call thay better. There again, I'm talking what passes for traditional these days - not the real traditional of past times. My coach, who had a foot in both camps, said that at the highest level, there is no difference - it's all aspects of one art.

This is authentic wushu my friend. Nowhere in China you can find the applications like USA and Europe.

@kfblss137 But our school teaches both traditional and wushu, such as three internal styles which most schools in the U.S. don't even teach.

IND 949 is right. You can argue definitions all you want. This guy is really good at his art, but it's definitely wushu, not ying jao pai.

I think Eagle Claw is one of the few styles that still has the real, ancient essence of Kung Fu, as displayed on Chinese legends and movies.
