uhhh why do they say they got caught censoring that groups text messages, i expected to see evidence clicking on this video. what was the message what was censored?
How exactly does censoring text messages stop bandwidth hogs? More importantly, the only reason ISPs have such a large problem with bandwidth (or so they say) would be because they never adopt new technology to successfully manage it. Instead they work on maximizing their profit margin.
@vamoola - "How exactly does censoring text messages stop bandwidth hogs?"
By reserving service to people who aren't spamming.
"because they never adopt new technology to successfully manage it. Instead they work on maximizing their profit margin."
Wow, ISPs could potentially get AHEAD in the market by having state of the art technology to manage it yet they choose not to adopt it. So much for profit motive... I guess the irony of your statement above speaks for itself.
"By reserving service to people who aren't spamming."
Did you not read? Censorship does not mean stopping spammers.
"Wow, ISPs could potentially get AHEAD in the market by having state of the art technology to manage it yet they choose not to adopt it."
That costs money. And even if they could, it's apparent that they haven't realized this yet. Look at how many other countries (mostly in Europe) have internet speeds that far exceed ours. The US is a failure in this regard.
verizon is pure bullshit they are a dirty company that makes up charges and applies them to your bill making you pay way more for things you have never done or used.
How if a cell phone provider altering text messages a violation of free speech? It's retarded, but within the bounds of the constitution. I swear, everyone in this country need a goddamn civics class...even the Christians are acting like whiny liberals now.
You would be accurate if they weren't operating on public bandwidth when you sign a license to use the public airwaves, or run cable lines under or over private property you just agreed to serve the public interest.
Now if you want to let unhappy rate payers dig up/cutdown cable lines on THEIR property and let everyone flood the public air spectrum I am %100 with you they are a private business and can censor what they want.
i can show you a video of my verizon phone saying message failed if i send a text with fuck in it, But sending a text to the same exact person without the word fuck it in.
I would rather use a UK network than the American efforts for commun ications. The Govt there clearly has got bored playing games on the Xbox and now is messing with your lives . Not bad considering that you have Asian call center worker that talk funny like when you call up about your cable service or wireless. Over here it's a VERY simple case of slapping a sim in a modem, no activation crap or ring this line ring that line. . .etc . . .etc. Then bung on a tenner and your all set up..
This video makes an accusation with NOTHING to back it up. If that seems unclear... it might be time to put the tin foil hat back on before the black helicopters show up.
actually flicklefish. While the video has nothing to back it up inside it. Outside it there is plenty to back it up. Phone phreaking exists. And not only that. But the government does control what text messages will be aloud to be sent. Which is the essence of phreaking a phone.
Though they dont do every single phone 24/7. I guarentee they do phreak your phone once a week. don't believe me. Talk to hackers.
your arrogance bores me. You live in a time where the american government passed wire/mobile tapping. Yet you don't believe its possible to censor a text message?

Consumer reports just rated Verizon Wireless #1 in every city they polled. This includes coverage, signal, dropped calls, and yes... CUSTOMER SERVICE. lol
For one, I agree. No company should censor anyone for anything, including the FCC (fucking domestic terrorist). But on the other hand, that one group is nothing but Christians... I agree with censorship of anything Religious. Because they just make themselves look like retards. At least censoring them from doing that stops them from looking like retards.
This is a terrible example of how to get people to do something. Although, I do completely agree with it, however, it showed now proof inside the video about the claim made. But yea that is stupid that they would do that
all they will do is use a red flag op to launch an attack across the net. Whip out 30 or 40 million computers and the people will be clamouring for controls.....First it was the big bad 9/11 war on terror...that has no end....next it will be the net........word of caution.....if you have a network set up, keep at least one computer off the system network and make hardcopy backups of what ever you deem essentail......Damn this worlds getting ugly fast.....
Well there's not much anyone can do legally, (but sue) they can censor a phone call or a text because you are borrowing their service. Since you have to subscribe to get their service and sign a contract they can do almost anything, kinda like Direct-TV can legally keep track of what you watch can send that info to other sources because you have to use their satellites, their equipment, but I don't agree with censorship at all.
Like the competition that doesn't exist 99% of the time? What about when *all* of them are doing the same thing, knowing that if they stopped, everyone else would, too? This isn't something that corporations do on an individual level.
@NoSurrenderLeftistPr Given the import of cellular communication, and internet communication, to the liberties of free-speech, I don't see how the government can't step in and force 'communications' companies to allow free-speech on their networks in the U.S.. It's not like we have enough other choices of cellular service to be able to write one off as 'religious nutbag only'. Cutting even one cellular provider slack on this opens a huge can of rights-stomping worms.
The thing with free speech is that it doesn't give someone/a group the right to harrass people with their 'speech'. Also, free speech does not cover corporate marketing.
free speech is the dissimination of information in all its forms and across any mediums for all.....thats like ford selling me a car and telling me that i cant drive it down certain roads.....
ohh crap i completly forgot about this. My friend used to send me messages like "stop ducking around" or "duck you" I was like what the hell. Well apparently if type fuck in a text message it come up as ****.
Congress shall make no law ... abridging the freedom of speech, ...
In other words the first amendment doesn't say anything about private organizations and freedom of speech. Technically, if you want to interpret it literally, it's ok for state and local governments to restrict free speech.

I think I'm going to try to get censored! Has anyone noticed that certain pages online disappear or there is a glitch w/ your browser everytime you visit a certian page.....
Censoring TEXT MESSAGES? Are you kidding? What kind of creepy, orwellian world is this. I know that the main stream media is mostly garbage and they even try to censor the internet to the best of their ability but I honestly never thought anyone would stoop so low as to censor text messages.
Yea, they should give examples, but I wouldn't put it past them to block content from NARAL Pro-Choice or any other group against Bush's newest even more stringent restrictions on birth control and abortion...
When they say they were caught censoring, they are saying that they were yelled at by Verizon and other for sending unsolicited SPAM to cell phones. You are paying for those jerks to send you junk mail on your cell phone. Read these things right folks.
This is one of those double negative commercials. You'r not protecting rights if you agree. You're agreeing that you paying 10 cents to get SPAM is OK with you. Freaking Jerks.
but some people do have unlimited texting (like I do) so it doesn't bother some people but I get what you mean, because people kept on texting me spam before I had unlimited and my dad got so ticked off and it wsn't even my fault :( I frown upon the losers who spam!!
Pro Murderers lost their freedom of speech when they chose to go against the constitution and support abortion.
Declaration of Independence says if the government violates your natural rights, life being one of them, you have the right to overthrow them and hang them for treason, NARAL is in on it with the government and they too deserve to be hung.
This video is weak, it doesnt even say what verizon actually did. Were these groups sending out spam texts? then of course they shouldnt be allowed to spam people with texts.
Good, it's about time some company realize that they will not play a part in the decay of moral America. People do have the right to speak and give an opinion but it does not give them the right to subject others to their ignorance.
If someone wants to talk like a trash mouth and teach their kids also to behave like pig vomit, go right ahead. And then leave that juvenile behaviour at the door before you go out in public.
Whether or not it offends a lot of people doesn't matter, it's the concept that people are trying to assert control over what other people can or can't say that's the issue. If it offends someone, then they can deal with it in their own way, just so long as it DOESN'T VIOLATE THE CONSTITUTION.
Meh. Let the free market doctrine sort it out. If people do not care for a certain type of speech or point of view, let them be free to find opinion elsewhere. After all, the consumer is king. The government, on the other hand, needn't be squirreling any more of our personal liberties. They can't even fix a farking pothole.
Is Verizon and Comcast run by rich liberal hypocrites? It always seems to me people like Elton John,David Suzuki, Al Gore, Michael Moore, Hillary Clinton, and George Soros say that some people should be arrested for their point of view. Down with the Shadow Cabinet
Say NO to Gatekeepers or govt censorship of the internet. We the people are the power not the govt.Govt exists because of us,and for us not the other way around.Remember that.
NARAL wanted to use the blanket text messaging (paid) so members who had signed up to receive legislative alerts would all get text messaging concerning upcoming congressional votes - i.e., Congress is voting on issue X. Call your Senator or Legislator today to tell him or her to vote X or Z. Verizon censored NARAL, saying the blanket text service was unavailable to them. The Christian Coalition and NARAL, opposing groups, have joined together on this free speech issue. That's remarkable
Corporations oppressing religion eh? How the tables have turned.

Good thing for me, I don't use Verizon for my wireless carrier...

Goodguy309, fuck yourself. We can say whatever we want in AMERICA. We don't live in Nazi fucking Germany. Moral decay....fuck your chud of a mother

i agree except for when people post hate speech e.g. always in comments on youtube that should be censoreed since it offends alot of people
CJgmelch94 3 years ago
Whether or not it offends a lot of people doesn't matter, it's the concept that people are trying to assert control over what other people can or can't say that's the issue. If it offends someone, then they can deal with it in their own way, just so long as it DOESN'T VIOLATE THE CONSTITUTION.

Meh. Let the free market doctrine sort it out. If people do not care for a certain type of speech or point of view, let them be free to find opinion elsewhere. After all, the consumer is king. The government, on the other hand, needn't be squirreling any more of our personal liberties. They can't even fix a farking pothole.

I don't understand how a media giant can spit in the face of its consumers like that, THEN wonder why there's a lawsuit days later.
*Scratches Verizon off the list of prospective phone providers for anyone with an original thought*

Is Verizon and Comcast run by rich liberal hypocrites? It always seems to me people like Elton John,David Suzuki, Al Gore, Michael Moore, Hillary Clinton, and George Soros say that some people should be arrested for their point of view. Down with the Shadow Cabinet

The phone companies use our satellites sent to space with our money, and use wires we paid to install.
They have no right to censor private messages to people who asked for them
tortuga66 4 years ago 8
Censoring text messages is wrong, but you should change providers, not ask for the governments help.
The internet is the last frontier of free speech. Don't let the government regulate it.

I read a story about this a few days ago. I totally agree! :(

Wow. I have Verizon too, and wonder if they've been censoring anyone else's text messages.

That's remarkable
northerngarden53 4 years ago 2
The censoring gets more blatant every day.
