That's the point - the notion that the Qur'an you have today is unchanged from when it was first written is false. The Qur'an's discovered in Sana'a in 1972 show small but intriguing aberrations from the standard Koranic text. Yes, there is physical proof (Yemeni fragments) but the Islamic authorities are afraid of conducting the kind of research as was done with the Dead Sea Scrolls because it will reveal differences between the oldest Qur'an's known to exist. Another serious problem for Muslims is the issue of ABROGATION. The abrogation problem suggests that the Qur'an was created, and cannot be the uncreated Word of God.

Nope - you've completely wrong. If you are born of Muslim parents you are automatically a Muslim, which is why you can have a Muslim country. You cannot have a 'Christian country' because, unlike Islam, you cannot be born a Christian - you must make an informed decision to accept Jesus as Lord and Saviour. One cannot kill in the name of Jesus Christ. Sunnis and Shiites have always fought because Islam has always been about political power, not spirituality.
I don't blame you for giving up on trying to defend the Qur'an. Once Muslims are presented with difficult questions they generally react in one of the following ways:
1) Give a link to some Islamic website(s), which they think answers the question, and thus avoid thinking too hard.

You are positing the standard Islamic view which you have been taught, but remember that Muslims are told that the Qur'an is an exact word-for-word of God's final revelation which are found on the original tablets that have always existed in heaven. The problem with this view is that there is not a shred of evidence for, and plenty of evidence against.

You don't need to be a Muslim to have knowledge of the Qur'an. For example, Patricia Crone and Gerd Puin probably know more about the Qur'an than 99% of Muslims. The difference between Islam and other religions is that Muslims think that the Qur'an has no history, and therefore have no interest in investigating its origins, or studying the Yemeni fragments.
Interestingly, that sounds more Christians to me than Muslims. I will not stereotype since I was baptized catholic and I do not waste time to search verses to contradict the Quran .Instead, I try to comprehend it and search for similarities or even clarifications. You have failed to provide any evidence to support the fact that the Qur'an is true. Muslims fail to grasp the significance of the fact that Muhammad was born six hundred odd years after Jesus' ministry. The Canon of Scripture was settled by the 4th Century at the latest, which Muhammad was not aware of. Mohammad was illiterate but some his companions knew how to write, and they wrote it in his time (on stones, leather...etc), also it was memorized by hundreds of his companions and followers at his time. It was immediately collected in one book after his death by his companions. Still copies from that period in many museums like in Egypt, Britain.

Proof that Muhammad had no knowledge of Jesus' crucifixion (which is hardly surprising given he lived hundreds of years after the event) is demonstrated by Sura 4:157. The Jews would never have called Jesus 'Messiah' which means 'the Anointed King.' That is precisely what the Jews did not believe, hence the reason for wanting Him crucified for blasphemy. The whole credibility of the Qur'an fails with this one verse, let alone all the other inaccuracies within.

I am thinking of converting to Islam, but I also still have a lot of respect and love for my birth religion of Christianity (esp. the church i joined, Episcopalians).
Instead of deciding that Islam was "superior" to Christianity, I just feel that maybe God is calling me to be closer to Him through the practices and worldview of Islam. I don't know what will happen yet of course. I have learned a lot about Islam from my Muslim friends, but I also know that they completely respect my faith 100%.

Remember Jesus reconciles us back to God because no amount of good works is good enough to place us before the face of God on judgement day and be forgiven. Don't you think Adam and Eve in the beginning prayed and tried their hardest to go back into the garden to eat of the tree of life? But God could not allow it because he is 100% love and 100% just. I found something out about myself, is that I was open to everything that taught good morals etc, but in general I wasn't really extremely religious. Now there's all this pressure on me, and I feel like I'll be looked at differently, and that all kinds of expectations re going to come up, for example, wearing a hijab. The problem with converting to Islam is that you have to sacrifice critical thinking, and replace it with simply following a set of rules. Muslims just accept that the Qur'an is an exact word-for-word copy of God's final revelation, which are found on the original tablets that have always existed in heaven. This is clearly not the case, and it has been proven once and for all by the discovery of the Yemeni Fragments in Sana'a during excavations in 1972.

Way before TV evangelism, and also over 20 years before the Internet kicked off into what it was today. One can be a muslim by name but not by actions, but a moumeen is the perfect example of the beautiful religion, Islam. We aren't taught to attack christians, nor are we taught to attack jews. That's the point - the notion that the Qur'an you have today is unchanged from when it was first written is false. The Qur'an's discovered in Sana'a in 1972 show small but intriguing aberrations from the standard Koranic text. This is hardly surprising, except Muslims believe that the Qur'an is the perfect, timeless, and unchanging Word of God. In fact is was an evolving document with a textual history.

The fact could be settled once and for all if the Yemeni fragments are compared to the Topkapi and Samarkand Qur'an's using the latest scientific techniques, as was done with the Dead Sea Scrolls. Yes, there is physical proof (Yemeni fragments) but the Islamic authorities are afraid of conducting the kind of research as was done with the Dead Sea Scrolls because it will reveal differences between the oldest Qur'an's known to exist. Another serious problem for Muslims is the issue of ABROGATION. The abrogation problem suggests that the Qur'an was created, and cannot be the uncreated Word of God.

Nope - you've completely wrong. If you are born of Muslim parents you are automatically a Muslim, which is why you can have a Muslim country. You cannot have a 'Christian country' because, unlike Islam, you cannot be born a Christian - you must make an informed decision to accept Jesus as Lord and Saviour. One cannot kill in the name of Jesus Christ. Sunnis and Shiites have always fought because Islam has always been about political power, not spirituality.

1) Give a link to some Islamic website(s), which they think answers the question, and thus avoid thinking too hard.
2) Deflect attention away from the Qur'an by criticising The Bible, even if it has nothing to do with the discussion.
3) Use insults and quote the Qur'an's threats of hell.
4) Remain silent.

You are positing the standard Islamic view which you have been taught, but remember that Muslims are told that the Qur'an is an exact word-for-word of God's final revelation which are found on the original tablets that have always existed in heaven. The problem with this view is that there is not a shred of evidence for, and plenty of evidence against.

You don't need to be a Muslim to have knowledge of the Qur'an. For example, Patricia Crone and Gerd Puin probably know more about the Qur'an than 99% of Muslims. The difference between Islam and other religions is that Muslims think that the Qur'an has no history, and therefore have no interest in investigating its origins, or studying the Yemeni fragments.

Interestingly, that sounds more Christians to me than Muslims. I will not stereotype since I was baptized catholic and I do not waste time to search verses to contradict the Quran .Instead, I try to comprehend it and search for similarities or even clarifications. As a matter of fact, this book (Quran), talks mostly about praising one God and doing good deeds such as giving ,sharing,caring and loving one another than showing hatred.

Being baptised as an infant in a Roman Catholic church does not make you a Christian anymore than being in a garage makes you a car. The RCC does not follow the teaching of the Lord Jesus Christ and never has done. My point is that you need to look at the SOURCES of the Qur'an before you start talking about what it says. I suggest you start with the researching the Yemeni Fragements, which show it was en evolving text.

Just to let you know, I read the Quran as I read my Bible. My question is , have you read yours? I am talking about the Old and the New testament. And yes, if you believe in one God (remember the old testament?the ten commandments?) , and do good deeds such as caring ,giving and loving one another ; therefore there is nothing to fear. You have failed to provide any evidence to support the fact that the Qur'an is true. Muslims fail to grasp the significance of the fact that Muhammad was born six hundred odd years after Jesus' ministry. The Canon of Scripture was settled by the 4th Century at the latest, which Muhammad was not aware of. He relied on a mixture of pagan myths, Jewish fables and Christian apocryphal writings to cobble together what became the Qur'an after his death.

Mohammad was illiterate but some his companions knew how to write, and they wrote it in his time (on stones, leather...etc), also it was memorized by hundreds of his companions and followers at his time. It was immediately collected in one book after his death by his companions. Still copies from that period in many museums like in Egypt, Britain.

Proof that Muhammad had no knowledge of Jesus' crucifixion (which is hardly surprising given he lived hundreds of years after the event) is demonstrated by Sura 4:157. The Jews would never have called Jesus 'Messiah' which means 'the Anointed King.' That is precisely what the Jews did not believe, hence the reason for wanting Him crucified for blasphemy. The whole credibility of the Qur'an fails with this one verse, let alone all the other inaccuracies within.

Yes, but whoever submits his face (himself) to Allah (i.e. follows Allah's Religion of Islamic Monotheism) and he is a Muhsin (good-doer i.e. performs good deeds totally for Allah's sake only without any show off or to gain praise or fame,etc.,and in accordance with the Sunnah of Allah's Messenger Muhammad Peace be upon him ) then his reward is with his Lord (Allah), on such shall be no fear, nor shall they grieve. I am thinking of converting to Islam, but I also still have a lot of respect and love for my birth religion of Christianity (esp. the church i joined, Episcopalians).
Instead of deciding that Islam was "superior" to Christianity, I just feel that maybe God is calling me to be closer to Him through the practices and worldview of Islam. I don't know what will happen yet of course. I have learned a lot about Islam from my Muslim friends, but I also know that they completely respect my faith 100%.

@WingsTM Same here, I'm in the same situation as you except I'm Catholic. I don't think any religion is better than another, obviously I still feel close to Christianity since I was raised with it so I'm not entirely forsaking it. I'm just not sure what to do exactly

@drmgrl11 - thanks drmgrl, it's comforting to know I'm not the only person in this position. I also don't like when people say one religion is better than another. And of course I too still don't know what I'm gonna do....maybe we can chat about it online sometime if you want. May God be with you.

@WingsTM Christianity is not a religion. It is a relationship and a lifestyle. Remember Jesus reconciles us back to God because no amount of good works is good enough to place us before the face of God on judgement day and be forgiven. Don't you think Adam and Eve in the beginning prayed and tried their hardest to go back into the garden to eat of the tree of life? But God could not allow it because he is 100% love and 100% just. Only He could provide the way in. The blood of God as man!

@WingsTM Well, i converted, and it was a good feeling. But to be honest now I'm feeling a bit weird. I found something out about myself, is that I was open to everything that taught good morals etc, but in general I wasn't really extremely religious. Now there's all this pressure on me, and I feel like I'll be looked at differently, and that all kinds of expectations re going to come up, for example, wearing a hijab. Now I really don't know what to do. im a little scared now actually

@drmgrl11 There are a lot Muslims who don't wear Hijab. that does not mean the are not muslims any more.
If I were you I would focus on the Basics: the shahadah, praying 5 times, zakat, Ramadan, and the Haj "If" you CAN to go to. And of course the other good things that you used to do when you were non Muslim, except the BAD habits if you had one, lol.The rest it will come to you gradually. keep talking to someone who knows the religion very well, like your local Mosque if there is one near you

Your time of wearing a hijab will come when you are ready. Dont rush things try to find more muslims around you, who can help you.

The problem with converting to Islam is that you have to sacrifice critical thinking, and replace it with simply following a set of rules. Muslims just accept that the Qur'an is an exact word-for-word copy of God's final revelation, which are found on the original tablets that have always existed in heaven. This is clearly not the case, and it has been proven once and for all by the discovery of the Yemeni Fragments in Sana'a during excavations in 1972.

@vermentinu Your just claiming ignorance, this person was actually not sacrificing critical thinking, by studying christianity and islam. Now claiming muslims ''sacrifice critical thinking'' is a lie, in the quran its mentioned to do research about what you belief and other religons. So instead pointing the fingers to us point the finger at the curch.
What do these yemeni ''fragments'' proof? Nothing...
