  • THIS WAS THE SHOW BACK THEN DAMN WISH THEY BOUGHT IT BACK !

  • Sheila E can't even lip sync her own song.

The presenter of this show is SCARY even for an 80's dude

  • @paulpizzey1973

    a) that's not Sheila E, it's someone pretending to be her.

    b) the audio / visual are not lined up.

  • remember the guy that performed "say say say" dressed up like half Paul Mcartney/half Michael Jackson? I'd love to see that again

  • @cesareo13 yessss

i have been trying to find that one!

  • I wonder if these former contestants want to see themselves on youtube after all these years.

  • Looking for the episode with Madonna Lucky Star and a guy who did Lisa Lisa All Cried Out

  • I LOVED this show. This routine is sickening, you guys turned it!

  • That dude had one lethal mullet, don't put a eye out with that thing

  • @theflock07... Aw, why not? This was an awesome performance! You all had reason to be proud. And where are these low-scoring-ass judges now? Probably counting Dick Clark's money for him and bringing him his nightly Maalox.

I loved y'all's performance here; watched it 4 times! You were good, each and every one of you!

  • My hair was EXACTLY like Allen Fawcett's from 1988 to 1991..... lol!! Except mine was black, and longer in the back, but just as curly. Apart from that, it was JUST like this.... too bad that style will NEVER come back, because I could still grow it like that! lol...... :-)

Ah, but men in their 40s who aren't musicians signed to a major label should NOT have long hair. ......lol

  • @TG1980 ...I remember that first episode too... and Dick Clark was the host.

  • They sure did go all out just to pretend to be singing. Come on, dude! I mean, entire fake bands for God's sake? When the music stopped, it probably sounded like a kitchen full of toddlers banging on pots and pans. Just how far did they expect to get with this lip syncing crap anyway? Perhaps they were waiting to get signed by the same record company that signed Jem and the Holograms. "Showtime synergy!"

  • Wow, I was a itty bitty kid when this came on. Came on 10:00pm KXTX Saturday nights. Use to catch this right before WCCW wrestling. After Puttin on the Hits went off the air, I could have sworn I seen the host Allen Fawcett on an episode of General Hospital. The 80's had the best shows.

  • THIS THE 80S AMERICAN IDOL

  • This guy's mullet is BRUTAL. :) Real talk this was my show back in the day.

  • I was a huge fan of the show. I just noticed that the microphone looks too small for his hand, lol.

  • LOL I know right!!

  • Oh my GOD, they had it going on! The costumes, the moves? Ok, so Goldie couldn't quite slide across the stage like Sheila, but that's a small quibble. GOOD WORK!

  • Daaaamn ! The host has a mullet from hell !!! Fluffiest 1 i've ever seen. looks like a cross between an afro and a mullet. A fro-llet !!! hahaha

  • Does any on have Troop's performance of new edition's cool it now? They did it on this show.

  • i have a great sheila e dvd for sale. it includes videos, interviews and tv performances 90 minutes long. message me for details : )

  • I have been looking for this show for a LONG time. Everytime I mention this show to people, they look at me as though I have two heads! This was my favorite show on WPIX 11!

  • Iol I remember this show... lol..I remember the red lips and the theme song lol

  • How are they judged 4 originality if they are immitating other groups?

  • @vanitystarr1 Original performance of the song, how original can you be with the hit!!!

  • @vanitystarr1 thats a mighty small microphone he got lol

  • holy FUCK!! they give them free copies of their performance????? what kind of gold mine are the running!??!?!

  • How did this show ever get on the air? What a stupid concept!

  • This was flawless! I got chills! Very well done.

On the flip side though, is that I remember this show a little too well, and now I feel like I have to shop for metamucil.

    Thanks for the memories!

  • Whom ever U R All of U have done an exemplery job.A score 0f 30 points per judge would have been appropriate. Thanks 4 bringing back the memories. I enjoy your performance.

  • I had completely forgotten about this show. I hated it.

  • The only thing I hated about is that the at-home viewers never had a chance to vote on the POTH acts. But now that we're in the 21st century, we can go online, text, etc. and vote on "originality, appearance, and lip sync."

  • They need to bring back this show.

  • @snootzie78 If they ever do bring back this show, it would be bad news for Britney Spears. because then, no one will pay $70 a ticket to see her do what these people do on TV. Why buy an expensive ticket to see someone lip-sync and dance, when you can watch it on TV for free?

  • I was in a contest in 1986 at Mother's nightclub in Chicago! The 1st place prize was to be on"Putting on the hits" show! I played Laura Branigan and song Io Ti Amo! They gave me a Bettamax video tape of the contest...,But unfortunaly is gone. I wish my 15 year old daughter could see it! Does anyone have any copys out there?

  • wow I was on this show 24 years ago doing micheal jacksons Billie Jean.

I got introduced to the dancing in a video with Frankie Beverly and Maze-Back in Stride Again... I also got to be in a film called Motown Mustang. You can see the music video here. I am the kid in the little blue jacket.

  • Wow impressive! You must have been devestated over Michael's death? At least you have fantastic memory's of playing Michael Jackson & being on that Motown show. That is big time!

  • omg I miss this show so much.. good memories watching all of these. kinda corny but it brought a tear to my eye watching em. good feelings!!!

  • my buddy frank has footage of him and his high school friends on this show performing haert and soul by huey lewis and the news. funny shit!

  • Here's some reasons it's not on DVD [or even seen in reruns in any form]

    a) Music Clearance issues

    b) It's a product of it's time

    c) This show would chiefly appeal to those in the 35-44 group, who likely grew up with the show and have strong memories of it.

*- although I do remember faintly watching this show while I was 3-7 yrs old.

  • dft432-thanks for the info.I was wondering about that :)

  • I love Allen Fawcett's "Frollett"

hahaha that's some funny shit right there.

  • Somebody has got to post Troop when they did New Edition on this show.

  • I loved this show!

  • WOW i am from Pasadena i think i went to school with them

I am proud to be from PASADENA CA like them

  • Man I remember this when I was in High School. I was a Junior or Senior when this was on. I don't think it lasted too long. I always thought this guy wished he was or thought he was William Katt, aka The Greatest American Hero. I guess they cast this guy 'cause he resembled Katt. But that's passe now and soon after this show it would be passe for that look.

  • barely hidden harsh criticism and 80s-bashing opinion driven arrogance aside. Here's some TRUTH. it had a pretty good run it was in syndication for four seasons 1984-88 it even had a spinoff competition (Puttin on the kids ) and and hey it was the 80s, when Big Ed McMahon's "Star Search" was king so it only made sense that his "Bloopers" partner in crime Dick Clark, ever the capitalist decided to cash in on Ed's success with a show that focused on lipsyncing.

  • Yeah I agree 100% that a show like this would never fly in today's homogenous TV market. but that's what made the 80s uniquely entertaning. Aside from news, sports, a CSI or two (until recently) anime and the occasional game show . I stopped watching most other "regular TV" (network/CW/basic cable) altogether" most TV sucks nowadays. Thank God for Netflix and especially YouTube!

  • far from american idol... these people lip sync. wow gotta love how u kids mention american idol when this show was some 20 years before it

  • the precursor to American Idol?

  • I used to LOVE this show!! So glad I found a clip!

  • THANK yOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU so much!!!!!

    I loved this show!!!

  • OMG!!! This was the show when I was like 5. HOLY FUCK!

  • she's stiff!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • She was pregnant!

  • Holy CRAP! I haven't seen this since I was like 5 years old!!

  • This was the show. I am surprised that with everything going to DVDs, this never came out...yet. But I loved this show.

  • Comment removed

  • groin grabbingly good hair

  • Does anyone have the entire episode of "Puttin' On The Hits"? If so, could you upload it?

  • Sorry but I don't have the whole episode

  • Even though you don't have this whole episode of "Puttin' On The Hits", it's OK. But do you know anyone who have whole episodes of "Puttin' On The Hits"? If so, let me know.

  • @theflock07 Ah HA!!! I've cracked the case. You are laurie, you're the third person who said their name. and the female guitarist with the purple guitar. I love this perfomance and the song, you guys look soooooo cool in your clothes. I was I up there with ya'll. This is coming from a 14 yr old.

    - Josh

  • I remember watching this show when I was little each Saturday afternoon, this ran for 4 seasons (1984-88) and I would tune in each week.

This looks very dated now and wouldn't hold up well in reruns.

  • You know they wouldn't put this on TV now.

  • OMG, this takes me back to my childhood!!!!

Sheila E. is one of the best!!!!!

  • Does anyone have the opening intro of "Puttin' On The Hits"?

  • Holy crap !!

I've been looking for this show for years.

  • I remeber this show and I am soooooo sorry to hear about sonya. she was beautiful. this download does great for her spirit!!!

  • I just found out that Sonya aka Sheila or Goldiefox passed away in October from Breast cancer. IRRISISTABL thank you for the info. I lost touch with Sonya, Marcelle and Colleen a long time ago and I really wanted to meet with them again to remember the old times. We were like a family back then and I have always thought about them. Sonya God bless you. Kim and I and Laurie will miss you. Thanks for the great times. Love the Hollyrock Band.

  • RIP BEAUTIFUL SONYA I MISS YOU SO MUCH!

  • they need to bring this show and the gong show back

  • LOL this is dope ....Allan Fawcett rocks!!!

  • the best performance I saw was this one dude who was Lionel Ritchie and Diana Ross together singing " Endless Love "

  • I agree the "Endless Love" is the best! Is this clip on You Tube????

  • I loved this show! And great performance, might I add.

  • This took me waaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyyy back!!

  • Nothing to be embarassed about. I liked it

  • That Sheila E. performance was great.

  • I have been dying to see this show online-- I watched it religiously every saturday afternoon. Don't be embarrassed to be on this episode-- the act was really good! Did you win? Being on a game show in the 80s is something to be proud of. One of the things that first impressed me about my husband when I met him was when I found out he had been on "Double Dare" in middle school!!!! Please post the whole episode if you have it...

  • I was obsessed with this show, Solid Gold and Kids Inc as a kid

  • oh I miss my saturday mornings! :o) thanks for the memory!

  • I have the championship episode from late 1985 at home, which has "The Curly Shuffle", "Human Touch (Rick Springfield)", "The Lion Sleeps Tonight", and "New York New York". Only thing it lacks is opening act, also got ending credits. May post it if I figure out how to hook VCR up to computer and record it, because the tape also got a whole Miami Vice episode from 2/14/86 on it too w/ commercials.

  • Saturday afternoons this used to be the show.

  • where's the "troop" episode? - i have it logged away on vhs - i'll get it on

  • Holy cow!! this was the show. You have to post more...please. Thanks again for sharing. And like you said, we did a show once...but I aint telling.

  • I used to watch this all the time. Anyone remember FTV? It used to come on right after Puttin' On the Hits.

  • oooh please put more clips from this show up! I loved it growing up, I dreamed of being on this show. (I was in jr high).

  • PUT MORE CLIPS OF THIS GAME SHOW UP

  • I remember the half Diana Ross and half Lionel Richie, and The Blues Brothers "Everybody Needs Somebody", the little kid lip synching Freddie Jackson's You Are My Lady with the white suit on, and black weird dude with the high top fade.

  • I REMEMBER THAT SHOW

  • Which show?

  • Cool, you don't happen to have the show where the blond kid did Prince's Kiss?

  • I totally remember this show!!! It brings back a lot of memories. Do you have the episode of the guy that was half Diana Ross and half Lionel Richie, lip-synching to the song Endless Love?

  • Hey, I think I remember that act! Sorry, but no I don't have the clip. The only clip I have is the one posted here.

  • I have that one on VHS. I have been meaning to post my Puttin on the Hits episodes but havent found the time. Glad there is some out there who would like to see it.

Thanks theflock07 for posting this! :)

  • I remember that act. He won the "Grand Championship of Lip-sync" in the final originally aired episode over 3-D (who did "19" by Paul Hardcasle by 1 point.

  • Yes I forgot about this, She totally did this. Sheila E was and is a major music force

  • I was on this show in 1987...we were the "Milk Dudes" and perfeomed Dancin' in the Streets by Mick and David.

  • I was 4 when this first aired and I still remember this

  • nice. back in 1985 I was a freshman in high school, 5 of us were on Puttin on the Hits as A-ha. We actually won and went back for the Semi-finals. It was a blast, especially staying at the Universal Hiton hotel like rockstar!!!! Many memories!

  • I remember this show when I was growing up. Alan had the preppie thing going on. After seeing this, I remember how cheesy the show was.

  • I used to love this show!!!!

  • I remember this show so well. I'm glad someone put up a clip from it since all my VHS clips broke years ago from the constant playing. Also I'm glad you choose someting original to do. It seemed like everybody else doing Sheila E. use to do the song 'The Glamorous Life" Finally, there were some major hot women in this group. Especially your lead lipsyncer/drummer. Though the guitarist on the far right was no slouch in the babe department either. P.S. You were robbed on the originality score
