@theflock07... Aw, why not? This was an awesome performance! You all had reason to be proud. And where are these low-scoring-ass judges now? Probably counting Dick Clark's money for him and bringing him his nightly Maalox.
I loved y'all's performance here; watched it 4 times! You were good, each and every one of you!
My hair was EXACTLY like Allen Fawcett's from 1988 to 1991..... lol!! Except mine was black, and longer in the back, but just as curly. Apart from that, it was JUST like this.... too bad that style will NEVER come back, because I could still grow it like that! lol...... :-)
Ah, but men in their 40s who aren't musicians signed to a major label should NOT have long hair. ......lol
They sure did go all out just to pretend to be singing. Come on, dude! I mean, entire fake bands for God's sake? When the music stopped, it probably sounded like a kitchen full of toddlers banging on pots and pans. Just how far did they expect to get with this lip syncing crap anyway? Perhaps they were waiting to get signed by the same record company that signed Jem and the Holograms. "Showtime synergy!"
Wow, I was a itty bitty kid when this came on. Came on 10:00pm KXTX Saturday nights. Use to catch this right before WCCW wrestling. After Puttin on the Hits went off the air, I could have sworn I seen the host Allen Fawcett on an episode of General Hospital. The 80's had the best shows.
Oh my GOD, they had it going on! The costumes, the moves? Ok, so Goldie couldn't quite slide across the stage like Sheila, but that's a small quibble. GOOD WORK!
I have been looking for this show for a LONG time. Everytime I mention this show to people, they look at me as though I have two heads! This was my favorite show on WPIX 11!
Whom ever U R All of U have done an exemplery job.A score 0f 30 points per judge would have been appropriate. Thanks 4 bringing back the memories. I enjoy your performance.
The only thing I hated about is that the at-home viewers never had a chance to vote on the POTH acts. But now that we're in the 21st century, we can go online, text, etc. and vote on "originality, appearance, and lip sync."
@snootzie78 If they ever do bring back this show, it would be bad news for Britney Spears. because then, no one will pay $70 a ticket to see her do what these people do on TV. Why buy an expensive ticket to see someone lip-sync and dance, when you can watch it on TV for free?
I was in a contest in 1986 at Mother's nightclub in Chicago! The 1st place prize was to be on"Putting on the hits" show! I played Laura Branigan and song Io Ti Amo! They gave me a Bettamax video tape of the contest...,But unfortunaly is gone. I wish my 15 year old daughter could see it! Does anyone have any copys out there?
wow I was on this show 24 years ago doing micheal jacksons Billie Jean.
I got introduced to the dancing in a video with Frankie Beverly and Maze-Back in Stride Again... I also got to be in a film called Motown Mustang. You can see the music video here. I am the kid in the little blue jacket.
Wow impressive! You must have been devestated over Michael's death? At least you have fantastic memory's of playing Michael Jackson & being on that Motown show. That is big time!
Man I remember this when I was in High School. I was a Junior or Senior when this was on. I don't think it lasted too long. I always thought this guy wished he was or thought he was William Katt, aka The Greatest American Hero. I guess they cast this guy 'cause he resembled Katt. But that's passe now and soon after this show it would be passe for that look.
barely hidden harsh criticism and 80s-bashing opinion driven arrogance aside. Here's some TRUTH. it had a pretty good run it was in syndication for four seasons 1984-88 it even had a spinoff competition (Puttin on the kids ) and and hey it was the 80s, when Big Ed McMahon's "Star Search" was king so it only made sense that his "Bloopers" partner in crime Dick Clark, ever the capitalist decided to cash in on Ed's success with a show that focused on lipsyncing.
Yeah I agree 100% that a show like this would never fly in today's homogenous TV market. but that's what made the 80s uniquely entertaning. Aside from news, sports, a CSI or two (until recently) anime and the occasional game show . I stopped watching most other "regular TV" (network/CW/basic cable) altogether" most TV sucks nowadays. Thank God for Netflix and especially YouTube!
Even though you don't have this whole episode of "Puttin' On The Hits", it's OK. But do you know anyone who have whole episodes of "Puttin' On The Hits"? If so, let me know.
@theflock07 Ah HA!!! I've cracked the case. You are laurie, you're the third person who said their name. and the female guitarist with the purple guitar. I love this perfomance and the song, you guys look soooooo cool in your clothes. I was I up there with ya'll. This is coming from a 14 yr old.
I just found out that Sonya aka Sheila or Goldiefox passed away in October from Breast cancer. IRRISISTABL thank you for the info. I lost touch with Sonya, Marcelle and Colleen a long time ago and I really wanted to meet with them again to remember the old times. We were like a family back then and I have always thought about them. Sonya God bless you. Kim and I and Laurie will miss you. Thanks for the great times. Love the Hollyrock Band.
I have been dying to see this show online-- I watched it religiously every saturday afternoon. Don't be embarrassed to be on this episode-- the act was really good! Did you win? Being on a game show in the 80s is something to be proud of. One of the things that first impressed me about my husband when I met him was when I found out he had been on "Double Dare" in middle school!!!! Please post the whole episode if you have it...
I have the championship episode from late 1985 at home, which has "The Curly Shuffle", "Human Touch (Rick Springfield)", "The Lion Sleeps Tonight", and "New York New York". Only thing it lacks is opening act, also got ending credits. May post it if I figure out how to hook VCR up to computer and record it, because the tape also got a whole Miami Vice episode from 2/14/86 on it too w/ commercials.
I remember the half Diana Ross and half Lionel Richie, and The Blues Brothers "Everybody Needs Somebody", the little kid lip synching Freddie Jackson's You Are My Lady with the white suit on, and black weird dude with the high top fade.
I totally remember this show!!! It brings back a lot of memories. Do you have the episode of the guy that was half Diana Ross and half Lionel Richie, lip-synching to the song Endless Love?
I have that one on VHS. I have been meaning to post my Puttin on the Hits episodes but havent found the time. Glad there is some out there who would like to see it.
I remember that act. He won the "Grand Championship of Lip-sync" in the final originally aired episode over 3-D (who did "19" by Paul Hardcasle by 1 point.
nice. back in 1985 I was a freshman in high school, 5 of us were on Puttin on the Hits as A-ha. We actually won and went back for the Semi-finals. It was a blast, especially staying at the Universal Hiton hotel like rockstar!!!! Many memories!
I remember this show so well. I'm glad someone put up a clip from it since all my VHS clips broke years ago from the constant playing. Also I'm glad you choose someting original to do. It seemed like everybody else doing Sheila E. use to do the song 'The Glamorous Life" Finally, there were some major hot women in this group. Especially your lead lipsyncer/drummer. Though the guitarist on the far right was no slouch in the babe department either. P.S. You were robbed on the originality score

Here's some reasons it's not on DVD [or even seen in reruns in any form]
a) Music Clearance issues
b) It's a product of it's time
c) This show would chiefly appeal to those in the 35-44 group, who likely grew up with the show and have strong memories of it.
