A real Native American will never bow his head down to a dead 33 year old Middle Eastern kid as his Make Believe goD. A true American Secular Government will never jeopardies its international credibility by indorsing religious theocracy.
The make believe goD loop hole was designed by foreign governments to manipulate mankind. A true American Atheists has divorced them self from the Middle Eastern Abrahamic Franchise that promotes a ring around the rose maze of religious dogma that enslaves the freedom of Mankind
If the US were a Christian country we wouldn't have the Constitution:
1st amendment-Throughout the whole bible, God has one mouthpiece, and nobody else's opinion means a damn thing. And freedom of religion? Non-believers must die.
2nd amendment-Jesus didn't even want people contesting lawsuits, let alone fighting off muggers.
3rd amendment-We wouldn't have a military, but prophets and apostles would pretty much have free reign to inflict themselves on anyone they choose.
Call it what you will? The founding father's knew power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely! Even Athiests as a belief or agnosticism knows the excess of any extremism isn't good! In studying the American Constitution its succeeds by the decentralized power creating competition! I accept power riches and position are worldly! You'd accept a Republican candidate if only you knew a lack of charity and greed caused GFC the way forward is godly love? I'm praying worthiness is still USA
i tried to figure out why penny wong talks over people? this woman too? pushes secular feminism calmly mocking rude interfering? what was his fourthly point he got halfway and she cackled witch like his 3rd point wasn't finished angry 4th not given? he remains an angry goaded wus? where's is answer? weak moderator unjustly biased?
@PNCCaine The moderator is a christian apologist. Lee Strobel.
Okay, most Americans are christians. So what? Are we also a female nation? Most americans are female. A white nation? Most Americans are white. What a pathetic argument.
If you people want to call the U.S. a christian nation because most people are christians, history is rife with christian tradition etc go for it. That doesn't change the fact that the founders started a SECULAR nation.
America claims to be Christian nation, but fails miserably. A Christian nation would not condone or support war. "Thou shalt not kill." I think God made that part pretty clear. Jesus says to turn the other cheek. But do Americans follow this? They believe in God and his Gospel, then go across borders and kill people. How hypocritical of them to profess their faith to a religion that doesn't even condone their actions. Anyone agree?
Being founded on Christian principals does not make a Christian state. The constitution clearly states the separation of church and state and the freedom of religion ... that means any religion. Even the freedom to not believe in religion.
(Initiated by George Washington, finalised and signed by John Adams, passing UNANIMOUSLY through the US Senate):
"Art. 11. As the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion, —as it has in itself no character of enmity against the laws, religion, or tranquillity, of Mussulmen,—..."
“Religious controversies are always productive of more acrimony and irreconcilable hatreds than those which spring from any other cause. I had hoped that liberal and enlightened thought would have reconciled the Christians so that their [not our?] religious fights would not endanger the peace of Society.? Letter to Sir Edward Newenham, June 22, 1792 G. Washington
I have seldom met an intelligent person whose views were not narrowed and distorted by religion James Buchanan 15th President
-“Separation of church and state is to keep forever from these shores the ceaseless strife that has soaked the soil of Europe.”- James Madison The government of the United States is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion.Treaty of Tripoli, article 11 signed by John Adams and ratified by congress.“
Re Batton's seven reasons: (1) Article VII of the constitution says nothing about the Declaration of Independence. Inference that it does based on a similarity of the signatories is absurd. (2) If this reference is to Holy Trinity Church v. United States (1892), the scope of the case is US immigration law, and therefore is not a precedent showing the United States as a Christian nation. The Sundays Exempt clause, which refers only to the time allowed for a presidential veto, is not relevant...
@alachabre (correction FIVE reasons) ...(3) Lots of quotes about the Bible. I don't see how this is relevant, it's well known that Christianity was the predominant belief as the Constitution was being drafted. Of greater importance were the French ideals of Liberty, Fraternity and Equality, and it is significant that given the predominance of Christianity, that the Constitution leaves it completely out.
@alachabre Jeremiah 17:9 "The heart is more deceitful than all else
And is desperately sick; Who can understand it?" A source for the separation of powers? Seems a reach, I would like to see what Hamilton and Washington were actually discussing. Isaiah 33:22 "22 For the LORD is our judge, The LORD is our lawgiver, The LORD is our king; He will save us." Three branches of government derived from this verse? It is actually to the contrary, as the verse lists one entity as holding all power.
@alachabre What Jeremiah is saying is a person can be corrupted this is why you need to have more people with separation so all the power isn't in very few hands.
Isaiah is so easy I'm surprised you couldn't pick it up my 9 year old son did. That is the Judicial, legislative.executive branches of our Govt. JUDGE,LAWGIVER,KING
@Conkuur If that is "What Jeremiah is saying," then why isn't that what Jeremiah is saying? Your nine year old son apparently just picked up what daddy interpreted from words that aren't there. You are being far too liberal in your interpretation. I stand by my argument that this verse preaches exactly the opposite of what you are saying.
@alachabre I guess if you study scriptures and the way the bible is written it seems clear but if not I guess it can be murky. As Christians we try to apply scripture into earthly practice. God speaks of heavenly things. So yes in the the literal terms of which the scripture is speaking the Lord is all of those things (Isaiah 3:22) because his heart is not corruptible (like Jeremiah). What the forefathers did was create a earthly government from a biblical one.
@alachabre But the founding fathers knew mens hearts were easily corruptible (Jeremiah 17:9) so they added more men as a sort of fail safe. They more men you have the better the checks and balances would be.I hope I explained it better to you this time. I wasn't trying to demean you, talking about my son. He studies as well the scripture and when he looked over to see what you had asked he got it right away. I did not interpret it for him. I guess it is something you pick up fromstudy
the bible is more accurate at science than any science book. Just look at history. Science used to think if you were sick you could bleed the illness out of a person. The bible says "the life is in the blood". God made us He knows more than scientist.
CONT> Romans 10:9-10 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. " God will forgive anyone who will ask Him to forgive their sins. Sin is simply wrong doing. If you have ever done wrong. (and all have) Then simply ask and believe.
Cont. God loved us so much that while we were sinners He died for us on the Cross.
Romans 10:13 "For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved."
2 Peter 3:9 "9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance." God wants to forgive all men.
Romans 3:10 "10 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:"
Romans 3:23 "For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;"
All men are born sinners.
Romans 6:23 "For the wages of sin [is] death; but the gift of God [is] eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." Because we are all born sinners we have to die, BUT God made a way for us to live eternally with Him.
Romans 5:8 "But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us."
@starscreamdkmo as far as U.S. a Christian Nation. It was FOUNDED on Christian principles. We (the baptist) never wanted the nation to have a national religion. Look up Portsmouth Compact. Every one should be free to worship or not worship. But neither side should try to force the other into their point of view.
If this is not the United Church State of America, how come politicians campaign in churches? How come some churches are also places to vote during elections? How come business operating churches are allowed to operate tax free?
The answer to these questions is in the fact that the so-called battle between the church and state was fixed long before Don King stepped in the ring!
Also check out the parallels between church and state in the Aimed At America 1 video.
@bigboy45454545 Read his book the Case for Christ. Even if you're not a Christian you may like it. If anyone was a skeptic/cynic about Christ, it was him. He converted because of the EVIDENCE he found that supports the Bible. Don't take my "Liberal, Darkie-lovin'" word for it, research for yourself.
@bigboy45454545 No need for the link: save it and send it to Stroebel. I don't need a Lawyer to prove to me that God exists and I don't need Stephen Hawkings to prove to me how stupid people actin the name of their God. If you believe in evolution Humans are merely monkeys with no hair and smarter brains. Who is going to put faith in THAT? Sorry that you don't agree with my faith, but I am mature enough to accept the reality that there are over Seven Billion indiv. Perspectives
@bigboy45454545 all happening at once on this Ball of Marketing. I'm going out with some dignity. I won't use the Bible to justify my political views; BOTH sides are dirty and BOTH sides only care about your vote to keep THEM in power over YOUR money and YOU.I Agree to disagree; simple.
@bigboy45454545 Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaawn. I never said I thought America was a Christian Nation. You messaged me personally that you were from Canada. "America" is made up of 35 nations. The United States of America is one of them. You seem really confused. Your idiot is in the mirror, Watson. Please choose your battles with someone else and stop messaging me. I hate to block ppl, but you're creeping me out....
@bigboy45454545 You anti-Christians are an angry bunch. Easily frothed. Easily controlled. Verrry creepy. You keep messaging me; like I ever said Evolution wasn't real. Some Christians believe in evolution and science. Those 700 club, stepford preachers calling for war from one face and Granny's money from the other do NOT represent the majority of Christians I know. You need to get out and see the world a little bit. Sorry your mum and dad were such bad people.
@CaptainJondlechit Are you trying to cry religious persecution my friend, as you call me anti-Christian? I mean I'm also anti-Tooth Fairy, know what I mean. I don't adhere to you magic man beliefs is all. You poor Christians as you discriminate against homosexuals and other religious groups, as well as women, as some of your group tries to take science out of school and replace it with religion. You're really are hard done by, aren't you now? (Sarcasm)
@bigboy45454545 How many Christians are you actively trolling today? Who cried persecution? I was clear, you troll. So you probably think that you are doing a service to the world by sitting on your butt being a religion-hater? Simple. Your cause is to Troll. You have gone after a group, yet you have an individual on the line. No discrimination: My career is based on acceptance and tolerance; who did I directly discriminate against? How am I playing the victim? Explain yourself.
@bigboy45454545 If you choose to answer my challenge of explaining yourself please do so here; NOT in my personal messages. I'm having a nice chat, not looking for a relationship, govenah.
@CaptainJondlechit Anything you say Mr. Delusional Christian. Say hello to your imaginary friends who live in the sky for me. You have a personal relationship already with those guys, right Govenah? Sure you do, and I'm friends with the Easter Bunny too, derp!
@bigboy45454545 You are waay to angry at God to be an Atheist. You're like a Homophobe; fearful of the REAL you. Someone must have not given you the attention you felt you deserved, or maybe you're just spoiled, or you were led astray by poser Christians, or diddled by a phony preacher? Either way, I will say a word for you to the dude upstairs for ya. Hope you work it out....the anger that is.
@bigboy45454545 Soooo, only Christians are Homophobic? Who is "we"? Your narcissistic fantasy friends? You never took on my challenge to explain your earlier statements. Who did I directly discriminate against? How am I playing the victim? You have the most sophomoric, unoriginal, college freshmen dorm room bong toke mentality. You're no revolutionary.
@CaptainJondlechit Piss off Mr. Delusional Relig-a-tard. America is not a Christian nation and you have no evidence that your Christian Gods exist. Despite your two thousand year old bullshit book of fairytales complete with talking snakes and rib-women. You are fucked in the head if you think this is reality. And magic Jesus will never come flying out of the sky. Your bullshit beliefs are deluded and retarded. Who told you these beliefs are true? They are wrong Sir.
@bigboy45454545 Here ya go again; being all robot n stuff. I made the case for USA as a NON-Christian Nation. U.K. with the CofE is an official Christian Nation. Papua New Guinea (want to go back) is a Christian Nation. The US has separation of church and state, simply because humans cannot agree on ANYTHING. You are angry at your parents. You are too sheep-like to see when someone agrees with you. Read my posts very slowly, yeah take it in, now don't you feel dumb? Jesus luvs U
@anthonyehooker Why would a normal person who can reason believe anything in the bible? The bible advocates slavery, murder, child abuse, and rape to name a few. Considering the bibles says snakes talk I think the bible is almost completely false in it's so-called facts. Try reading the trash yourself to see how much you think is true.
@bigboy45454545 Number 1 I am a Baptist Preacher, I don't see how anyone can deny the Bible is true. Except that the bible says Satan has the eyes of the sinner blinded. I hope God opens your eyes before you die in your sins and go to hell. God loves you
@anthonyehooker It's easy to deny the Bible or this Jesus character. There's no evidence for such. The bible is a book of fairytales. It's not evidence for anything including this Satan. What are you five years old. You know there's no evidence for such things. Get over your delusions. Pick up a science book and learn about the natural world.
If the Founding Fathers were to see how the Nation was without Christian principals explicitly mentioned in the constitution. They'd go back an base it more clearly on the Bible.
United States (forbidden explicitly under the First Amendment to the United States Constitution, and implicitly in Article VI of the same document.) is NOT a Christian Nation. Separation of Church and State. Jesus is NOT mentioned by name in the Constitution. Jesus would not approve of Bldg. a nation on genocide of N. Americans. Iraq war; Jesus say NO. Vietnam: Jesus shakes head. Greed; Jesus was a living example against Greed. Bible has anti-greed stories throughout it. Consumerism; Not Jesus.
@CaptainJondlechit Jesus is not against war. Look at the old testament. Jews were told to completely destroy some nations, men, women, child and even animals in some cases. And Yes Jesus IS God. Look at John chapter 1. It says He created all things.
@anthonyehooker You and our Govt. are not Jesus. I am a Christian and NO, Jesus would not approve of our wars. We have wars to protect the interests of the ruling class. "Thou shall not kill". Doesn't get much clearer than that. Throughout the Bible God shows us that it is not our place to kill. Reread those stories about God using man to destroy evil. I hate that sophomoric argument. Understand the Bible, don't use it for political gain. Jesus would NOT approve.
@anthonyehooker Jesus would also NOT approve of building a Nation on the deception and Genocide of Native Americans. Our tallest buildings are Corporations, not temples of worship. The USA is NOT a Christian Nation. The UK has the Church of England, etc; they are an official Christian Nation. The perverted Christianity that Pilgrims and Founding Fathers pushed served themselves and Manifest Destiny. Where does it say the USA is a Christian Nation? In Spirit maybe, even thats lies
@anthonyehooker United States (forbidden explicitly under the First Amendment to the United States Constitution, and implicitly in Article VI of the same document.) is NOT a Christian Nation. Separation of Church and State. Jesus is NOT mentioned by name in the Constitution. Jesus would not approve of Bldg. a nation on genocide of Native Americans. What country are you from again?
@CaptainJondlechit separation of church and state is NOT IN THE CONSTITUTION. But I do agree the state should keep its nose out of the church business. The constitution tells the government what it can and can not do. not the people. The ammendments on the other hand.......
It's the bump on her head that's the issue. Shocking who they let interview from prison (notice the background where she's interviewing)
Progressives hate it, but the 1st amendment of the Constitution doesn't tell u what you're NOT allowed to say, nor dictate where you're NOT ALLOWED 2say it. Rights aren't prohibitions. Freedoms don't deny/punish
1st Am -"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or PROHIBITING THE FREE EXERCISE THEREOF;"
What's wrong with the American People who used to teach prayers and the 10 commandments in schools? What happened to the recognition of the founding fathers of GOD being the greatest help in the freedom of the land? What happened to all the Godly moral values? Gone all this gone, and people will come here to blame the economy, to blame national security or else. They should Blame themselves because they rejected GOD. What's wrong with people nowadays!!! Please God May the truth triumps
To all people thinking that their school knowledge means the world please read that: The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline. Proverbs 1:7
People are so blinded they can't even see that there is something wrong with America today. With every bad news occurring in the country, they are ready to try every theories even the "ET" theories, Everything but the word of God, seeking God's theories. America is dying!!! and some people still neglect GOD
1 minute in. The woman is not addressing his points and is instead not only inturrupting, but attacking him with no evidence what so ever. And is blabbing on about useless info not even in the debate..
@trocknickel They gave us a country. What have YOU done? And if there's no God, what's wrong with slavery anyway? Who's to say it's wrong? You? What authority do you have to say it's wrong? Are you imposing your morality on us?
@revhowardgoss. I haven't owned slaves, so that is a big plus. The 'no morality without God argument' is one of the most ridiculous. Honestly, google or youtube morality without God and you will find a million things to refute that simplistic argument. I'll just add that you sound like a child who has shown idolatry for both the founding fathers and God and it makes me a little nauseous seeing someone so willing to serve.
@clubindiana4 "The highest glory of the American Revolution was this: It connected in one indissoluble bond the principles of civil government with the principles of Christianity."---President Adams, July 4,1821
@revhowardgoss You ignore the fact that religious ethics have changed profoundly over time. Slavery was once defended by churches on scriptural grounds; now it's seen as grossly immoral. Did these adjustments occur because some God changed his mind? No, they came from secular improvements in morality that forced religion to clean up its act!
Do you not murder because you only seek a reward/fear punishment from God???
@revhowardgoss Prove what? It's historical FACT that slavery was endorsed by religion. Have you read the Bible? Read Leviticus again. Why don't you answer my question about not murdering because you only seek a reward/fear punishment from God?
@jacqueline716 You are a liar. Slavery was eliminated through the efforts of Christians. Besides, if there is no God, What is wrong with slavery? If there is no God, there is no right and wrong. I don't have to answer your stupid question. It doesn't deserve an answer. You are disingenuous.
@revhowardgoss There were pro-slavery and anti-slavery Christians. But that doesn't change the fact that people justified slavery with the Bible in the first place. You are ignorant of history and you are obviously INTIMIDATED by my question. Certain moralities are universal and actually do have logical and (gasp!) evolutionary explanations. Tell me, why are the most peaceful, moral societies on earth secular? (eg. Sweden, Finland)
You failed in this debate. You're not even fit for Fox News!
@revhowardgoss Slavery is wrong based on the overwhelming logic of utilitarianism. That is, the proper thing to do is to to create the greatest good for the greatest number. The profoundly negative consequences of slavery greatly outweigh any potential benefit.
In other words, it's common sense. Do you need that inscribed on white marble?
You haven't provided any support for your arguments. Once again, you FAIL.
@revhowardgoss I see, you're just too STUPID to understand arguments from eminent philosophers like Peter Singer. You should go to college to finish your education before you start debating with anyone because clearly, you don't have a basic foundation in logic.
You're crazy if you think societies are moral because of the idea of some great surveillance camera in the sky.
@revhowardgoss We are sentient beings capable of self-control and introspection. Why do we need a skygod for right and wrong to exist? It is simple: Do no grievous/unecessary harm to ANYONE. That is what is right.
@revhowardgoss The Founding Fathers were above all secularists. In many of Thomas Jefferson's letters, he denounced the superstitions of Christianity. He did not believe in spiritual souls, angels or godly miracles. Although Jefferson did admire the morality of Jesus, Jefferson did not think him divine, nor did he believe in the Trinity or the miracles of Jesus. In a letter to Peter Carr, 10 August 1787, he wrote, "Question with boldness even the existence of a god."
Whenever we read the obscene stories, the voluptuous debaucheries, the cruel and torturous executions, the unrelenting vindictiveness, with which more than half the Bible is filled, it would be more consistent that we called it the word of a demon, than the word of God. It is a history of wickedness, that has served to corrupt and brutalize mankind; and, for my part, I sincerely detest it, as I detest everything that is cruel. - Thomas Paine - Age Of Reason
I have found Christian dogma unintelligible. Early in life, I absenteed myself from Christian assemblies." Ben Franklin. The government of the United States is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion.Treaty of Tripoli, article 11 John Adams and ratified by congress. Adams again- God is an essence we know nothing of. Until this awful blasphemy is got rid of there will never be any liberal science.
“Question with boldness even the existence of god because if there be one he must approve of the homage of reason more than that of blindfolded fear” Thomas Jefferson. He also said "“I do not find in orthodox Christianity one redeeming feature." "Religions are all alike - founded upon fables and mythologies " "History, I believe, furnishes no example of a priest-ridden people maintaining a free civil government.
Deuteronomy 17:6 At the mouth of two witnesses, or three witnesses, shall he that is worthy of death be put to death; but at the mouth of one witness he shall not be put to death.
Barton KNOWS he can deceive Christians by lying because they will not take the time to check his assertions. I did it for them.
Barton claims Article III, Section 3, paragraph 1 is taken from Deuteronomy 17 -6. The constitution states in Article III, Section 3, paragraph 1:
“Treason against the United States, Shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving aid and comfort. No person shall be convicted of Treason unless on Testimony of two Witnesses to the same overt Act, or on Confession in court.
Barton claims Article 2 is the Sunday exception clause. The government adopted Sunday as an exclusion to the work week in deference to the Sunday worship. The exception has nothing to do with the Christian God or the US as a Christian Nation.
The pledge of allegiance says "one nation under God"..meaning i think the founders of our nation built this country under Christian values, however we are now 300-400 years later and this nation may have forgotten the principles on which it was founded on....we tolerate and embrace so much various things its crazy...even in the Bible nations were founded under God but it's people stumbled and forgot about God worshipping idols and stuff like that...have we forgotten what this nation started as?
@dboytesoro The Pledge of Allegiance was written by a schoolteacher long after the Nation was founded and did not include the words "Under God". One of the reasons it didn't is because that schoolteacher believed it would be blasphemous to say that God favors any nation.
Oh, and we started in 1776. That makes us 235 years old, not 300-400.
This nation started as a rebellion against the Brits and as a place for *ALL* religions. Not just yours.
@WingedWyrm Yeah but if the pledge of allegiance originally did not have "under God" in it then who put it in there? And why has it remained? It's either it is recited with "under God" or not recited at all...no one ever recites the "original" one...do they? but really who then put "under God" if it was not original?
@dboytesoro It was put in in the mid-fifties by a nation determined to show how they weren't like them goddless commies. The reason it's been left in is, largely, because of majority privilige. People who just didn't think through the possibility of there being non-believers in the US.
We were originally just "One Nation, Indivisible". Putting "under God" there between there was actually divisive.
@dboytesoro yeah but under god was added during a time when religious zealots could act without hindrance. It is not necessary to recite with "under god".. The constitution does not mention christianity.. it ONLY provide for the separation through the establishment clause (which the Supreme Court has upheld 15 times..) Groups like the ACLU are constantly taking those who deny the separate to tasks in lower courts.. and wining. The myth that the US is a christian nation is false.
@dboytesoro The phrase "under God" was ADDED to the Pledge of Allegiance in 1954 due to the fear of communism during the Cold War. The 1950s was also the time that the government introduced the motto "In God We Trust." These are NOT traditions that date back to the Founders. In fact, they would be rolling in their graves if they knew...
That is the whole issue, Americans are fully ignorant to history, the only areas they can claim were founded as christian were colonies, yet the founders made sure we were not a christian nation, and also grasp all other christian nations declared it, the US never did, that in itself should be proof enough, if something is a christian country they state in their founding documents, they are, just like if they are Buddhist, Muslim, etc they state it in their founding documents the US NEVER DID!
The Treaty of Tripoli signed at Tripoli on November 4, 1796. Article 11 of the treaty states the US is not a christian nation, so if the US was a christian nation, why would it thus deny that in this treaty, 20 years after the founding of the country? Explain that, many of the founding fathers were still alive and it was only 20 years later, that we have signed treaty stating WE ARE NOT A CHRISTIAN NATION?? Umm study history you ignoramuses!!!
There is a treaty, soon after the founding, the states, the US is not a christian nation, its a load of shit, to claim it is, ignoring that document allong with the pure fact that all other christian nations stated that... Its not, it is not, some colonies were founding as such, the founders did not say that, that full on bullshit...... There was an atheists founding father, jewish found fathers, etc..
CHRISTIANS WILL ALWAYS WANT LESS RIGHTS FOR MUSLIMS/CATHLOLICS/JEWS ...CHRISTIANS ARE A PROBLEM FOR ANY PROGRESSION OF UNITED STATES. CHRISTIANS ONLY VOTE REPUBLICANTS HENCE PERRY AND BAUCHMAN PRAY FOR RAIN AND HELP THE ECONOMY WITHOUT ANY REAL EDUCATION TO HELP THIS COUNTRY
I wish they would have had him up against Chris Rodda - she has at least taken the time to research the documents and historical context relevant to Barton's claims - and has shown how his assertions are either misinformed or outright lies.
Barton is a fraud, and should be publicly demonstrated as such - so no one else can be sucked into his delusion by nothing more substantive than superficially plausible rhetoric.
Of course the U.S. is not a Christian nation - unless you're just talking about demographics.
But as a matter of foundational law, we're not in any sense a Christian nation. The founders couldn't have been more clear.
And no the Founders did not refer to "Judeo-Christian" principles (whatever those are). This Barton guy doesn't know what he's talking about. Try getting a real historian instead of a political operative.
@hazydavey Barton is AWESOME. He destroys the ditz representing the other side.If you don't know what Jedeo Christian principles are, you have no business saying any thing.
Yeah all you intolerant atheists, going around telling couples they can't get married, performing genital mutilation on your daughters, putting "ONE NATION NOT UNDER GOD" on the money, blowing up abortion clinics, killing people that convert away from atheism, having polygamist compounds where 12 year olds are forced to marry, running teleatheism channels where you perform faith healing and take people's money... Yeah, shame on you atheism, you are so evil and intolerant!
If the USA was indeed a Christian nation then it would be a Theocracy and not Democracy. However, we have to accept reality and recognize what we really have in this country is a Plutocracy - Oligarchy hybrid.
The founding father weren't thinking the way people are thinking today: namely gay-rights, civil unions, athiesm, eliminating Christian symbols, 10 commandments out of our classrooms, eliminating prayer, etc. They lived in a time where they never thought of these things as DANGEROUS.
@Creationcreed The majority of the founding fathers were deists. They did not believe that the bible was the word of God and beleived in free thinking, and in fact some of them were atheists.
@machinehead5760 Well the only real 'Deist was Jefferson. And atheists? Are you fucking serious? You uneducated fuck! My parents were refugees from an Atheist government(Soviet Union), they came here to America to find freedom, but realized that there freedoms are being taken away from Atheists here in America.I don't give a flying fuck if you are an Atheist, Agnostic, Theist, Deist, Satanist, whatever, just let me worhsip in peace, something Atheists don't understand.
@Mark123USA Maybe it is you who are uneducated. All atheists are trying to do in this country is keep the separation of church and state, which actually PROTECTS your religion. Imagine that. And Jefferson was not the only deist. There was Thomas Paine, and Benjamin Franklin. And when 85 percent of the country is religious, it's kind of laughable that you're worried about atheism at all.
I am amazed at how blinded by the distractions this country seems to be! We are being led like lambs to the slaughter and all the majority of Americans care about is playing video games, getting high and what their clueless celebrity role model is tweeting. Are Americans stupid? You tell me?! We better wake up and stop letting the media conrol us before we have NO freedom or democracy! Read your bible...
@friedie1jeff America is an always has been and always will be, a Christian Nation build and based on Judeo/Christian Values, BUT you can worship to, or not, to any God of your choice! That IS Freedom OF Religion!
@MrPorterhouse You are deluding yourself. You need to read real history books, and the writings of the authors of the Constitution itself. Reputable biographies of the founders of the country, in addition to their writings, would help, also. In fact, parts of the Constitution are in conflict with Christian values . A tip to Annie, instead of attack his political ties(if there is, so..), instead of saying stuff about there should be a separation between Church and State, just be honest and say "Yeah, they were built around a religious mindset, but we are fighting now to cut those parts out, so we can force OUR secular morals/and laws on others instead."

Two - from the plan of the holy author of our religion, an amendment was proposed, by inserting the word "Jesus Christ," so that it should read "a departure from the plan of Jesus Christ, the holy author of our religion." The insertion was rejected by a great majority, in proof that they meant to comprehend, within the mantle of it's protection, the Jew and the Gentile, the Christian and Mahometan, the Hindoo, and infidel of every denomination.
The Constitution used a religious dogma of "Ordaining" rather than inaugurating or instituting. Instituting would be a merely human act, but to use this language to "Ordain and Establish" invokes a Religious Concept so clearly implied, that is remindful of the " Divine Right Monarchy" of Catholic Europe, that no historian can now interpret this away. They were replacing the Divine Right King with a Ordained Nation of Law, and the Law they used was Judeo Christian Common Law.

Re Batton's seven reasons: (1) Article VII of the constitution says nothing about the Declaration of Independence. Inference that it does based on a similarity of the signatories is absurd. (2) If this reference is to Holy Trinity Church v. United States (1892), the scope of the case is US immigration law, and therefore is not a precedent showing the United States as a Christian nation. The Sundays Exempt clause, which refers only to the time allowed for a presidential veto, is not relevant...
alachabre 1 month ago

It is actually to the contrary, as the verse lists one entity as holding all power.
alachabre 1 month ago

I stand by my argument that this verse preaches exactly the opposite of what you are saying.
alachabre 1 month ago
@alachabre I guess if you study scriptures and the way the bible is written it seems clear but if not I guess it can be murky. As Christians we try to apply scripture into earthly practice. God speaks of heavenly things. So yes in the the literal terms of which the scripture is speaking the Lord is all of those things (Isaiah 3:22) because his heart is not corruptible (like Jeremiah). What the forefathers did was create a earthly government from a biblical one.
Conkuur 1 month ago
@alachabre But the founding fathers knew mens hearts were easily corruptible (Jeremiah 17:9) so they added more men as a sort of fail safe. They more men you have the better the checks and balances would be.I hope I explained it better to you this time. I wasn't trying to demean you, talking about my son. He studies as well the scripture and when he looked over to see what you had asked he got it right away. I did not interpret it for him. I guess it is something you pick up fromstudy

For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. " God will forgive anyone who will ask Him to forgive their sins. Sin is simply wrong doing.

A. Congress was in session on Decemember 25th, 1789, the first Christmas under the American Constitution.

Did these adjustments occur because some God changed his mind? No, they came from secular improvements in morality that forced religion to clean up its act!
Do you not murder because you only seek a reward/fear punishment from God???
jacqueline716 4 months ago
@jacqueline716 Prove it.
revhowardgoss 4 months ago
@revhowardgoss Prove what? It's historical FACT that slavery was endorsed by religion. Have you read the Bible? Read Leviticus again. Why don't you answer my question about not murdering because you only seek a reward/fear punishment from God?
jacqueline716 4 months ago
@jacqueline716 You are a liar. Slavery was eliminated through the efforts of Christians. Besides, if there is no God, What is wrong with slavery? If there is no God, there is no right and wrong. I don't have to answer your stupid question. It doesn't deserve an answer. You are disingenuous.
revhowardgoss 4 months ago
@revhowardgoss There were pro-slavery and anti-slavery Christians. But that doesn't change the fact that people justified slavery with the Bible in the first place. You are ignorant of history and you are obviously INTIMIDATED by my question. Certain moralities are universal and actually do have logical and (gasp!) evolutionary explanations. Tell me, why are the most peaceful, moral societies on earth secular? (eg. Sweden, Finland)
You failed in this debate. You're not even fit for Fox News!
jacqueline716 4 months ago
@jacqueline716 Why is slavery wrong?
revhowardgoss 4 months ago
@revhowardgoss Slavery is wrong based on the overwhelming logic of utilitarianism. That is, the proper thing to do is to to create the greatest good for the greatest number. The profoundly negative consequences of slavery greatly outweigh any potential benefit.
In other words, it's common sense. Do you need that inscribed on white marble?
You haven't provided any support for your arguments. Once again, you FAIL.

@jacqueline716 That sounds like a good argument against homosexuality.

@revhowardgoss Here's a quote from Epicurus that you should think about:
“Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able?
Then he is not omnipotent.
Is he able, but not willing?
Then he is malevolent.
Is he both able and willing?
Then whence cometh evil?
Is he neither able nor willing?
Then why call him God?”

MrApostleLee 5 months ago
Barton claims Article III, Section 3, paragraph 1 is taken from Deuteronomy 17 -6. The constitution states in Article III, Section 3, paragraph 1:
“Treason against the United States, Shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving aid and comfort. No person shall be convicted of Treason unless on Testimony of two Witnesses to the same overt Act, or on Confession in court.
MrApostleLee 5 months ago
“Sunday exception clause” lie.
Barton claims Article 2 is the Sunday exception clause. The government adopted Sunday as an exclusion to the work week in deference to the Sunday worship. The exception has nothing to do with the Christian God or the US as a Christian Nation.

The pledge of allegiance says "one nation under God"..meaning i think the founders of our nation built this country under Christian values, however we are now 300-400 years later and this nation may have forgotten the principles on which it was founded on....we tolerate and embrace so much various things its crazy...even in the Bible nations were founded under God but it's people stumbled and forgot about God worshipping idols and stuff like that...have we forgotten what this nation started as?
dboytesoro 5 months ago
@dboytesoro The Pledge of Allegiance was written by a schoolteacher long after the Nation was founded and did not include the words "Under God". One of the reasons it didn't is because that schoolteacher believed it would be blasphemous to say that God favors any nation.
Oh, and we started in 1776. That makes us 235 years old, not 300-400.
This nation started as a rebellion against the Brits and as a place for *ALL* religions. Not just yours.
WingedWyrm 5 months ago
@WingedWyrm Yeah but if the pledge of allegiance originally did not have "under God" in it then who put it in there? And why has it remained? It's either it is recited with "under God" or not recited at all...no one ever recites the "original" one...do they? but really who then put "under God" if it was not original?
dboytesoro 5 months ago
@dboytesoro It was put in in the mid-fifties by a nation determined to show how they weren't like them goddless commies. The reason it's been left in is, largely, because of majority privilige. People who just didn't think through the possibility of there being non-believers in the US.
We were originally just "One Nation, Indivisible". Putting "under God" there between there was actually divisive.
WingedWyrm 5 months ago
@dboytesoro yeah but under god was added during a time when religious zealots could act without hindrance. It is not necessary to recite with "under god".. The constitution does not mention christianity.. it ONLY provide for the separation through the establishment clause (which the Supreme Court has upheld 15 times..) Groups like the ACLU are constantly taking those who deny the separate to tasks in lower courts.. and wining. The myth that the US is a christian nation is false.
daNDayati 4 months ago

ASexyChef 5 months ago
The Treaty of Tripoli signed at Tripoli on November 4, 1796. Article 11 of the treaty states the US is not a christian nation, so if the US was a christian nation, why would it thus deny that in this treaty, 20 years after the founding of the country? Explain that, many of the founding fathers were still alive and it was only 20 years later, that we have signed treaty stating WE ARE NOT A CHRISTIAN NATION?? Umm study history you ignoramuses!!!
ASexyChef 5 months ago
There is a treaty, soon after the founding, the states, the US is not a christian nation, its a load of shit, to claim it is, ignoring that document allong with the pure fact that all other christian nations stated that... Its not, it is not, some colonies were founding as such, the founders did not say that, that full on bullshit...... There was an atheists founding father, jewish found fathers, etc..

How is this even a debate?
Of course the U.S. is not a Christian nation - unless you're just talking about demographics.
But as a matter of foundational law, we're not in any sense a Christian nation. The founders couldn't have been more clear.
And no the Founders did not refer to "Judeo-Christian" principles (whatever those are). This Barton guy doesn't know what he's talking about. Try getting a real historian instead of a political operative.

The founding father weren't thinking the way people are thinking today: namely gay-rights, civil unions, athiesm, eliminating Christian symbols, 10 commandments out of our classrooms, eliminating prayer, etc. They lived in a time where they never thought of these things as DANGEROUS.
Creationcreed 6 months ago

The Constitution used a religious dogma of "Ordaining" rather than inaugurating or instituting. Instituting would be a merely human act, but to use this language to "Ordain and Establish" invokes a Religious Concept so clearly implied, that is remindful of the " Divine Right Monarchy" of Catholic Europe, that no historian can now interpret this away. They were replacing the Divine Right King with a Ordained Nation of Law, and the Law they used was Judeo Christian Common Law.
