  • @Angelsydeon Thanks for the link in the description...now I know what LSD is like @_@

  • Sure, hide dead bodies under flowers, no one will notice at all >_>

  • Goku Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei....

    ...It came

  • I've always wondered... what would happen if Kafuka made a contract with Kyubey?

  • @Aethix1 Reading this, my first thought was of Second Impact. An nightmare of unimaginable magnitude, an explosion of sheer force and power blasting through the sky, devastating the planet as the world screams with the abject wrongness of the act. It'd be like that, except worse. And then, she'd stand on the shattered remains, looking out at the devastated world and say, "Look at all the space for people to move around in!" And Itoshiki is still alive of course.

  • @Zikiel Figures she wouldn't mercy kill him. She'd force him to run from her for an eternity.

  • @Zikiel It'd be like the Third Impact, or perhaps it WOULD be the Fourth.

  • sandman chronicles reference they totaly made Kafuka delirium and she has a fish heart Sandman

  • Is the link in your description supposed to be showing it frame by frame?

  • Random animations+random effects= always win

  • Wait, SHAFT made this too?

...That explains the paper-cut out like artwork....awesome!

  • The last 30 seconds or so of this always make me a little sad for some reason.

  • Someone needs to seriously kill Kafuka Fuura because she is a living mental hazard to everything living and dead alike. She is a special danger for Itoshiki-sensei totally ignoring that fact that he was't too mentally stable to begin with.

  • OH MAN!!! THAT YOOOOUTUBE THING IS AWESOME!!!

  • LOL 0:53 - 0:57

    Under the flowers anyone?

  • It Came MindFuck dum MindFuck DUm DUm MindFuck dum MindFuck

    Welcome

  • Chonny is in the featured videos. Makes sense to me :D

  • ear and eyegasm

  • Kafuka in 1:08 is very creepy -*-

  • who's tht girl at 1:01?? is tht kafuka??

  • It came... Among other things.

  • shaft studio is great, fucking great

  • I'll be honest. I don't like the series at all, but the openings and endings are AMAZING. I really wish the series could reflect the feelings of these openings. That real psychosis and darkness instead of a little bit darker version of Seinfeld.

  • @OzkarGlez well....i think sometimes they do cuz they explain life with dark humor but idk i get wat ur saying

  • @OzkarGlez

    >Seinfeld

    >Get Out

  • @raitei2000 Trying to greentext here? Really?

  • @OzkarGlez yes

  • I watched Maho Shoujo Madoka Magica, also made by SHAFT. It seemed abnormally normal. Until this op's cousin appeared and attacked the main character. No I am serious. That was the only way I could describe it.

  • @Hyperencrpted12345 Oh yeah, these sequences that appear a lot in Shaft shows as of late are actually by a duo of former Gainax animators who call themselves "Gekidan Inu Curry". Check out the video for Maaya Sakamoto's "Universe".

  • The people who made this stuff....genius or on some sort of drugs? Both?

  • I loved all the Goku OPs, but this one was especially epic.

  • A psychologist would have a field day with this

  • The song kind of has a sad tone to it from 1:04 to the end.

  • I didn't think it was possible for this opening to look even more like it was made on drugs.

Then I clicked the yooouuutuuube version.

    Beautiful.

  • It came.

    So did I.

  • Ohtsuki Kenji is a legend.

    excellent opening btw

  • just love it.

  • epic

  • I just noticed that under the pile of flowers, there are bodyparts

  • What's the name of this version though? O.o

  • @HitsuToushirou Kuuso Rumba Rap

  • I watched this again on the link in description after seeing it a long time ago, but with the flux option this turns from a regular trip into a full on mindscrew. Good stuff.

  • OMFG MY EYES :DDD

  • I love how shaft op dons have anything to do with the anime.

  • genial video me gusto al cansion

  • 0:57 kafuka smiling

    0:59 kafuka not smiling

  • @wizardjack

Kafuka smiling with her hair tied

Kafuka not smiling with her hair untied

If you read about her in wikipedia maybe you'll know "why"

  • anyone else think Dark Woods Circus when they saw this?

  • @JesstheHappyEmoGirl I was actually thinking about that. Basically my thought process "Huh... this OP would be really neat if set to Dark Woods Circus..."

  • @JesstheHappyEmoGirl Not really but someone should do that :D

  • every one go to the link on the description you will trip ballz

  • Man, after watching Bangaichi's 2nd OP, this seems like a mental cakewalk. My brain gets physically strained watching Bangaichi's OP.

  • Oh god...SO ORGASMMIIICC D:

  • Lol my computer was freezing up as it played XD it can't handle the mindfuckery and epicness mixed together like this...

  • I'd say this intro (to be more specific, the part from 0:53 to 1:04) contains the best psycho analyzation of Fuura Kafuka we'll ever get.

  • Please answer this, "DOES ZETSUBOU SENSEI LIKE/LOVE FUURA?????" (if I spelt her name right lol)

  • @XoGIRoX

    Ha, she wishes he did!

  • It's pretty interesting that this OP is a direct sequel of the OP for the 2nd episode. At the end of the OP for the 2nd episode, the last words were "Even so, the circus will come for you" Here, the ending was used as the beginning and directly continued with its first words: "it came"

  • Diferences between Goku and Zoku?

  • Is this Doujin, or an unused OP? I've seen them all and none of them open with this version of RUNBA RUNBA or with these visuals

  • @UnanimousDelivers The three Goku Sayonara Zetsubou-Sensei OADs were released between the second (Zoku) and third (Zan) seasons. This is the OP for the third and last one of that set.

  • @Angelsydeon i think he meant that the song used here is not in the complete kuuso rumba song

  • hay una historia muy rara detras de este opening -.-

  • @maryadoroelanime cuak? eh que digo cual??? conta...

  • At first, I was like "man, this is so trippy!", but then I realized how much symbolism was in this opening, especially towards the end.

  • THIS... IS... AMAZING...

  • It's awesome! but I like the other version of the song, but the video is awesome!!

  • I don't like the new vocals in this opening. Great series, though.

  • I seriously can't count the times that this anime has blown me away. Even so, this is another time that I have been.

This is just absolutely amazing. And in all it's craziness, it really makes me kind of sad.

  • 0:54

I've never noticed the bodies under the flowers until now.

  • it came. me too.

  • God damn this anime quickly became one of my favorites!

I love this OP too, I like both of the versions used, but I prefer this one for some reason.

  • agreed

  • Oh man, as if this video wasn't psychotic enough, I literally couldn't focus my eyes for a few minutes after clicking the link in the info up there. Now that's a memorable OP!

  • 0:02 エロwwwww

  • Why is chiri's name spelled chri?

  • 1:03 - 1:16

The best part. Translation: "I'm here" "Your not here" it's good stuff :D

  • "After thinking about it" "Erase everything".

  • This opening made me cry. If you understand all of the little hints in it, it's really sad.

  • I'm here and you're not.

  • wat

  • There is awesome coursing through a significant part of my eyes and ears now. Due to this opening.

  • Nightmare fuel. D:

Awesome nightmare fuel, but nightmare fuel nonetheless. D: *shudders*

  • Even so, the Circus will come for you.

    ...

    It came.

  • @99hit Kita! Kita! ( *o*)

  • This just seemed trippy and amazing when I first saw it- gave me the shivers. However, now that I'm looking past the whole 'omg this is awesome haha' part, I'm starting to see tons of symbolism too.

But maybe that just makes me a little crazy.

  • I think just about all of the SZS ops are full of symbolism. I really wish I could understand more of it though!

Amazing opening! I like this version of Kusou Rumba a lot better..

  • SO...INCREDIBLE. 5 STARS.

  • Well that was just as scary as it was creative.

  • BLOODY HELL wasnt expecting that hahahaha

  • pure awesomeness :)

  • This opening is so delightfully absurd it sends chills down by back when i watch it =D

  • I say, the OPs for SZS series's are probably the best and most interesting ones in anime right now. Some of them are like nightmares, they don't make any sense but manage to be agonizing and oddly fascinating. That's exactly the reason I love this anime so much, be it the first, second, or third. Even if they recycle some scenes in this OP it looks as amazing as always, not reading too much in it, however.

Thanks for putting it up with such good quality! :D

  • @TerroristiZura Well i was re-watching the fully animated ZSOP trying to figure out what all the anatomy pictures had to do with the song or the show for that matter. When I really thought about the anatomy pictures a bluntly saying "This is what a human is underneath the pretty clothes, makeup and skin. Everyone is a heap of organs blood and bone, and ugly, terrifying, beautiful thing" It's pretty deep...Or I'm over thinking it lol

  • @TerroristiZura I don't think that Shaft should become a monopoly in anime, but they should do all the openers for every anime. I mean this needs to be a law, anything else is just boring.

  • Oh my god. How did I not know about this until now? And I call myself a Zetsubou fan.

This is incredible--can these openings get any better?

  • they always start off so poorly done and in the end they go all out it's awesome!

  • Have you seen the opening credits for bangaichi? Shit is mindblowing.

  • 0:53 - 0:59 best part

  • Agreed. :3

  • here are the lyrics translated of course, in case you wish to further your analysis

  • Circus can also represent Truth. No matter how you see certain things, truth is only one. For example, you can be optimistic and treating meal in McDonald's as something unusual, special and tasty. You can also be pesimimstic and treating it like poluting yourself. "Even so, the circus will came for you", and truth will be soon revealed to you.

But Death is too pretty obvious. You can be positive or negative - Death will come anyway. For you...

  • I didn't realize the meaning of this OP until I read the comments here. It all makes sense to me now. This is amazing.

  • The flower that Nozumo holds means the real Kafuka, like 1:00. I think that only he knows how she is, somehow, and that at 1:14 they both are connected by the rope, sinking in despair. Nozumo try to save Kafuka of something, thats evidente. I can be right or wrong, but who cares =D

  • its nozomu, not nozumo

  • I have never seen a more perfect blending of fine arts and animation in my life, and I doubt I will see one again in a while.

  • I think differently about Ka**** now... she's still my fav sayonara zetsubou sensei character though. I love this opening! :D

  • loldeeeeeeeeeeeep

  • Basically, the whole meaning between Sensei and Kafuka is that Sensei makes himself artificially miserable, despite leading a pretty good life. (Rich family, decent lifestyle, he's spoiled, has a harem of women) Kafuka, on the other hand, forces happiness, enthusiasm, and optimism in an attempt to forget the horrors of her past, and her destructive (both to herself and others) tendencies.

  • This basically reflects on normal human cultures worldwide. In many cultures that live in priviledge, be it the US, Japan, or the sort, you'll usually find people who aren't content with their lifestyle, usually most notable in teenagers and middle-aged adults.

On the other hand, there are many 3rd-world countries that suffer a lot, but usually try to keep themselves in check with an unrealistic faith, and make the best of it.

  • yo, pass that son

  • In short: Kafuka=Manic

  • At 0:06 it says on that paper "Even so, the circus will come for you." I wonder what that means?

  • they said it on the last episode of Zoku if I'm right.

  • circus is a happy thing right? Maybe it's like "no choice, you WILL be happy"

    forced positivity

  • Means you should hide under your bed. :P

  • Oh ya, what I said isn't final. It's just rough guesses through the show.

But then seriously, I think Kafuka is kinda pitiful; her history is so **** and she's still able to put up such a strong front...

  • Compared to Nozomu, Kafuka's predicament is much, much worse; Dad tried to commit suicide several times, Mom got possessed and tried to commit suicide once. Won' be surprised if her mind isn't wracked.

Anyone noticed that Nozomu is like always reaching out to Kafuka? Perhaps trying to save her? And the truely 'zetsubou' one is Kafuka, and not Nozomu?

  • Yeah. Nozomu's the youngest son from an old money family with political power. He can afford fast cars, penthouses and drowning in don perignon (if he spent a little more...) if he wants too.

His life is actually a really great and stable one. He only complains because he has the luxury to worry about things that don't affect his life.

Maria and Kafuka are arguably the poorest but most upbeat of his students.

  • I don't think Kafuka (Ann) is in despair. Shes been through a lot but her temperament is too positive, it's part of her personality. For instance in the hard landing episode she happily lays out the scenario where mankind becomes cattle.

It's her twisted values in contrast with her personality that makes her so interesting to me. Her upbeat attitude is what makes her seem so dark. The image of her as a child chanting purge fits her all the same, even as a young adult.

  • Hmm...the 'lie on Kafuka's face could mean that her actions are a facade up till now?

Anyone notice that at 0.42 all the students turned into Kafukas? Combine with the fact that she's the Ringmaster, and Nozomu did not change...means that they are pretty much i Kafuka's world(mind)? And that the students changed would means Kafuka only see Nozomu in her world?

The part where Kafuka is dancing on a pile of body parts happily hints that her mind is not quite right...

  • Comment removed

  • Maybe Kafuka here is trying to see her existential situation (strangling herself by trying to fly away as empyreanlc said) through her audience members as all of their perspectives convert into her's.

From what Nozomu sees, the roof of the circus crashes in, and all the body parts start coming out of the giant Maria's eye sockets. There is a tension here because Kafuka's sideshow falls apart when she tries to look at the spectacle of herself and it looks like she tries to forget about it.

  • Kafuka displaces this tension by burying the reminders of her psychological tension (her classmates) under the flowers as she dances over them.

Not understanding her problem, or just trying again, Kafuka then extends her hand out to us as the audience.

But this also doesn't seem to work for her as we see her huddled in a isolated corner, and then we see only a frown from Kafuka with her hair down.

  • It's interesting to note that while her hair is flowing free, a state she wants to be in, she's also clearly unhappy.

  • que vuen opening

  • I just wanna note that the letter on Kafuka's face on the start is read "uso", meaning "Lie"... I wonder what that means...

  • She lies to herself that the world is a happy place, when she's had tragedy happen to her all through her life. She's the ringmaster in the happy fantasy circus she pretends life to be

  • that would mean she's werein a mask of some sort? god now i want a movie where she goes nuts and starts killing everybody

  • You'll also notice that everyone is a monochrome cutout, including Kafuka.

Except for Sensei. He is not a cutout, but animates, he has color to his body. Sensei holds a flower close to his body (it's in a globe though, he can't touch it) His eyes flash (he is the only person in the OP to have eyes)

Afterwards cutout Kafuka, flickering with color begins throwing flowers in the air. We see black&white Kafuka reach her hand out, we see animated Kafuka sitting alone.

  • The next is a girl, her uniform colors are 'realistic', not a spray of colors. Her hair is down and she is frowning.

Cuts to a eruption of flowers, now cutout Kafuka and cutout sensei are dancing together and flashing with color.

She wears a fake mustache and smiles, Cutout Sensei is the clown and smiles.

But then we see the not-cutout Kafuka, the 'real' Kafuka, she is being strangled. She is flying upward with all of her flowers

but the rope is bound to the earth and tied around her neck.

  • But reaching out for her is the 'real' Sensei.

Go back to the beginning of this, it has Sensei catching a falling Matoi. The cut after that is Kafuka ('fake" on her face) as if she's watching.

So I would say something like, Sensei is the only 'real' thing that Kafuka sees. Kafuka sees Sensei clutches a single flower (in a ball, he doesn't touch it) to his chest, so Kafuka begins to throw flowers everywhere. She strangles herself with her desire to be happy.

    The noose brought them together.

  • Man, that's quite a good analysis. It actually makes sense. You're not just pulling free associations out of your butt, you're making sense of the consistent imagery contained in the work. Good job!

  • your explanation is awesome. seriously. it's the best one I've read in a week. also the longest so it's worthwhile to read.

  • it sounds like they mixed 2 songs togetther this time. but yea this is a metaphor(about haff this show is anyway)

  • IT CAME :D

  • Personally, I think the "circus" is a metaphor for death. The fact that Kafuka is the ringleader enforces this concept - think; what's a 'ringleader' of death? Yes, that's right. A murderer.

That Itoshiki is a clown makes sense too; he's very light-hearted about his own death. There's two ways one could actually interpret this. Either Kafuka finally snapped and killed everyone, or the reason she's depressed is a failed suicide attempt. Take it how you will.

  • "Even so, the circus will come for you."

    "IT CAME."

Sounds like a metaphor for suicide to me.

  • Damn it is really deep...I love these show more and more.

  • once you begin to understand what it's trying to say, this opening really IS deep

  • que buena esta XP

  • pedazo de tema !!!!

    ^^

  • 0:43 Love it

  • 0:07 "It Came" ....>_>

And I think this one is awesome. BTW: It's Rap-beat, or in Romanji, Rappubito

  • yep its the best op for this insane anime xD

  • I have to say, this is the best opening for this series. :D

  • my brain just melted

  • what the hell did this shaft guys smoke?

  • Whatever it is, I want some of it!

  • I think I know whats happening in 0:42 to 1:10

Nozomu is looking around at all the craziness of the circus and is quite frightened from all of it. He holds the orb for comfort. Little did he know that the orb was Kafuka. Kafuka comes out and starts spreading hope. Kafuka holds out her hand for Nozomu to join her. (can't explain :59 - 1:01) Then for some reason, hope explodes everywhere. Causing Nozomu to be suddenly happy. And be one of Kafuka's slaves-I mean clowns :D

Well that's how i see it

  • Like you I have tried to figure this OP out. The conclusion that i have come to is that Kafuka is not half good and half evil, she is a pure dark character that wears a mask. Look very closely at 0:54 - 0:57, look at what she is dancing on. There is all kinds of little things like that in this opening And as you said before she is dressed up as a ring master, and zetsubou is her clown, also they stand in a noose, this makes me think that she is trying to keep him in despair, making her EVIL!

  • Actually, what I see at 0:59 to 1:00 is at first she is very happy and she's lending out her hand to help. Then at 1:00 you see clutched up into herself as if she were scared or crying. Then at 1:01 you see her hair has grown (just like in the show)

and she's no longer smiling, and she's STILL holding out her and. As if despite what had happened to her she still cares about everyone around her.

Wow...mine explanation is kinda dark... ._.

  • google

Seeing the Mania and Depression in Fuura Kafukas Heart in the [Goku] Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei 3 OP

  • That person was thinking about the same things as me. Though, I didn't notice the "body parts" of the others in the flower bed. O_o

Kafuka must be screwed up. :P

  • Oh and one more thing that I realized at 1:13

Kafuka is the one being hanged! (yes that's a word.)

And it looks like Sensei is the one trying to save her. When her hair grows she acts very odd, as in not as happy and up-lifting as she usually is. So maybe she's the one in despair! :O

  • Art scholars and psychopathologists will be analyzing these openings for decades to come. . .

  • Damn, I'm so addicted to this song D:

  • Ringmaster Kafuka devours the souls of all who watch this, and that's why Saigo sucks.

  • Comment removed

  • Did you notice on the paper he ripped down, it says *Even so, the circus will come for you*??

  • It came.
