1) Police need warrant to enter and search your house

2) You may remain silent unless you are given a lawyer

3)You may ask for the officers name when your "addressed" by the Police.

Police can however search you on the spot and if your 18 or under, police are unable to question you without parental supervision or approval.

@dyingdignity I don't know about other forces but I've found the Met's guidance on it. Type into Google, 'can you refuse a police search in the uk'. At the time of writing, it's the very first link on the list, it mentions an FAQ. Click that and read it all but the part that is specifically relevant to your question is the section, 'How should I react?'

Basically, they have a right under the law to stop and search you without your consent, by force if necessary.
