8. Hannibal Lecter is just CREEPY...and he's trying to kill off a bunch of people to get to one person.
7. Alex is just PSYCHOTIC. I mean he does all these disgusting things to other people.
6. Norman Bates is a perfect example of the creepy stalker stereotype (think the shower scene everyone parodies.) Psycho and all Alfred Hitchcock films are classics.
@AgentSmithIsAnElf LOL well I'm guessing by that question you ask me that's where it's from. Man this been a long time sense I watched that movie. Thanks.
I am probably a minority on this, but WHERE THE HELL IS MR. FUCKING BLONDE?!? He was really scary in how he can switch from regular wise guy to a fucking psycho who tourtures cops because "it amuses him" I'm sorry, maybe he's a 12 spot or something, but he has to be on some list like this!
I never identified with Alex. The only character in 'A Clockwork Orange' that I even remotely relate to is the prison chaplain and that's only because he opposes the government's anti-freewill agenda.
"He's a savage beast, but he listens to Beethoven". I don't understand this point. What does he mean by "but"? Does he think that... somehow... if someone listens to classical music that means he is... good? Well... Hannibal Lecter listened to Bach... fuck, Hitler listened to Wagner, Goebbels listened to Beethoven... and... so?
I always thought Ralph Fiennes butchered the role. He spoke funnily, he looked funny, he moved funnily. He wasn't intimidating in the slightest and Voldemort was A LOT SCARIER in the books.
I honestly thought that Lecter was sort of scary in Silence of the Lambs. Mostly because of not only the way he talks but because of how he seemed one step ahead of both the authorities and somewhat Buffalo Bill even
It's more like Yagami sounds like him. Remember the movie came out in 1971 and the book came out even before. Way before Death Note was ever thought of...
@ZacksQuest I can't decide if I like the first or second movie the best. I think it's cool they were able to get the same guy to reprise his role twenty years later. R.I.P. Anthony Perkins.
I disagree with his criticism of Hannibal. Hopkins as Hannibal is an intimidating presence in all three films. He always seems to be the master of his surroundings. It doesn't matter if he's in a cell or on a crowded street: he can and will hurt you if you offend him.
The brain scene is darkly comic because the alternative, stomach-churning realism, would have distracted the audience at a crucial turn that has everything to do with Hannibal and Clarice—not Krendler, who's basically a prop.
Alex shoulda been AT LEAST top 5. (Roughly 3?) Hes a very interesting character. And Lecter? A bit harsh maybe? Thats the whole reason behind why he was scary: He had his wits about him and was a genious.
his performance is so darknes and so cruel that, when you so it it, you want it to give him some preaty deam good punches, because he is a freaking bastard.
Agreed, i started to read the book, and Alex has more developement in the book than in the movie, you can get more into the character, and he's also more curel in the book. But the movie was still great tought
I loved the "A Clockwork Orange" book Alex has a hell of alot of character developement and just all round a great book, the movie was also pretty good but nothing like I pictured it. Anyways people should check out the book as well since it is different from the movie and I personally like the book more.
@Tjezzal its the same with me and Misery. the book completely blew me away, it was just amazing. the film was good too, but it didnt give the same feeling as the book did
@Nathpeggsy I guess the reason behind it is that directors have to shorten the books but deliver a new experience to the audience, which can ethier range from bad to good. But i rarely find movies that can beat the book it's based on.
I agree. Burgess's ending to the book turned it into a much more fascinating character arc for me. It felt genuinely profound when I read it, and I wish the American edition hadn't cut out that last chapter.
I really would like it if Doug would compare Red Dragon to Manhunter, and hear his thoughts on William Petersen to Edward Norton and Brian Cox to Anthony Hopkins.
Geeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee Alex scared me so much... I did get interested in learning Nadsat, though my brothers and sisteres. It's real horrorshow.
@Leatherbubba Red Dragon is a remake of Manhunter, so of course they wanted Hopkins to return as Hannibal, since he had played him in two movies already, even though it's a prequel and Hopkins was much older. If they had replaced him, it wouldn't have been the same.
Awesome vid, but I love Hannibal and I think he should have gotten a higher rating. Maybe using the Hannibal from Hannibal Rising would have been a better choice, showing his actual descent into madness.
I love that Annie Wilkes is on this list. I just finished reading the book Misery, and she made me cringe. Boy, she was crazy, but I still loved the book.
Hey guys, I just wanted to let you know that I've been told that as bad as Alex was, one thing he never meant to do was kill. I never saw the movie, I was just told so.

9. Annie Wilkes is a fangirl gone mad.
8. Hannibal Lecter is just CREEPY...and he's trying to kill off a bunch of people to get to one person.
7. Alex is just PSYCHOTIC. I mean he does all these disgusting things to other people.
